Android Wear |OT| 2nd Gen is Here

Joining the thread. Have a moto360. Gonna develop some stuff for it, but first need to try it out soms more. Really interested in what use cases I'd want to use and whatnot.

Just got an LG G Watch at Best Buy today for $80 with a $50 Google Play credit included! I have purchased and installed Advanced Wear Visualizer but it is not listed in my watch faces. I have tried resyncing twice to no avail. What do I need to do?

I don't have it so I can't confirm, but I don't think it's a watch face. Look in your apps.

I hate that "OK Google text [person] [message]" doesn't capitalize the first letter. So sloppy, I don't think there's a keyboard left that still does this. Sent feedback.

How do I do that?

EDIT: Okay, figured it out. By the way this app is fucking awesome, now I am kicking myself for having not bought the last G Watch Best Buy had in stock so that I could go to a rave with one on each wrist.

I also find it annoying how quickly it sends your message. For example, if I say "Hey hope you are well. Let's hang out sometime." It will just send after "Hey hope you are well", the shortest pause and it assumes your message is finished and ready to send.

Change the title too. second gen is here!

p.s. theverge zenwatch review. note that it's still relying on an overview on android wear from June for the software component of the review so theverge is already outdated

After owning one of these for a few weeks, I generally agree with the review though: This is (mostly) great hardware that is really begging for better software support on Google's end, as AW comes off as pretty half-baked to me so far. If Google keeps pushing updates this hard though, I expect the platform to be in great shape very soon.

This update is great and the watches are so much better. There's native support for calendar, weather, (watch) battery) and sweeping hands.

Also I noticed that one of the new watch faces, The Hundreds, takes advantage of the accelerometer? The face moves and tilts as you move your wrist around.

So, no one with a ZenWatch has gone on record as receiving an update to Lollipop. Meanwhile, Motorola has announced that starting sometime today, anyone with a 360 should be able to manually pull for their update if they haven't received it yet.

But...wasn't the whole point of Android Wear being held to such a strict standard that Google would be able to push updates to all watches without individual company involvement? I'm pretty disappointed that this hasn't actually turned out to be the case.

Dumb question: do you need to be actively connected to a phone to be able to see the time? Can it function as a time piece without a phone connection?

Thanks!

You can use it without a phone but the initial setup needs a phone for it to be paired with otherwise it won't go to the main menu.

Out of the box, the watches won't do anything except display a prompt to connect the watch to a phone.

Once you establish the initial connection, when the watch can't find the phone it'll display time and let you perform some basic built-in functions (stopwatch, etc.) However, pretty much everything else (voice control included) is a no-go.

Edit: Beaten, but yeah, what those guys above me said.

I don't see anything about forcing an update at the link.

It would be really nice if they could find a way to recharge watches like these without plugging them in.

Like solar or motion or something. Does something like that exist?

I got that part, just wondered if I could manually force it now. I'm still waiting.

Yeah, based on what other people have said in comment threads, it looks like they haven't thrown the switch yet today to make everybody else eligible. Can't imagine it will be much longer though.

I'm still waiting too.

Not sure why I'm so eager, except maybe that I downloaded a couple fo watch faces that I cannot see until the update.

I got a G Watch on Cyber Monday and the more I use it the more I like it. I feel like my watch surprises me every day with something really cool/useful.

I got the update today and it is really awesome. Really polishes the overall experience. I think now I am even more excited to see the next batch of AW devices than the next batch of phones.

Zenwatch Lollipop update has been posted to Goog's OTA server. Pulled the ZIP and I'm flashing it via ADB now. Excited!

Edit: Texting via voice now capitalizes the first letter and watch alarms default to one-time now. Sanity prevails. Thank you based Goog.

They aren't going to release a moto 360 2 in a month or something crazy are they? Thinking about grabbing one tomorrow, have been wanting a new watch anyway.

Tempted to buy a smartwatch 3 because can get on decent discount. Was going to use to replace my smartband. Anyone got one of these?

There was some weird rumor about a Russian Moto rep accidentally claiming that the sequel to the 360 would be announced early next year or something like that, but I never saw actual verification of that story. The 360 only launched in September, even with an aggressive timeline for the sequel I can't see it coming out before summer.

Doubt it will be that early, but Moto 360 does need a 2nd gen. The one out now is way too big, way too bulky, way too slow, and battery life lasts way too little (a common trait among smart-watches today).

Feel like these would be fun for like a tamagotchi/digimon app. Are there any that work with Wear?

Not that I know of but with Facer, you can make your watch face look like Pocket Pikachu

You would need to properly align it for usage on square watches though.

Got a Moto 360 for christmas, seems pretty rad so far.

Question though, I use PocketCasts way more often than listening to music, is there an app that lets me control PocketCasts from my watch?

edit: Apparently it just works. Next time I will try it before asking, hah.

Got the Moto 360 and I'm loving it! I was getting a ton of questions about it during new years and Christmas party.

The black version just stands out... Do you guys know, does the metal band for the pebble fit the Moto 360?

Got the steel band moto 360 al black, it looks awesome and the battery on my side is fine, Loving it

So GAF, Moto 360 or Asus Zenwatch? I can get both for pretty much the same price (except the 360 is an open box).

I do like that the zenwatch is a little thinner.
