Android Wear |OT| 2nd Gen is Here

Been playing with WatchMaker's animated gif features and made this watch face after getting lost on r/perfectloops for half an hour:

I think i've found my permanent watchface.

The Pac Man watch face is just great and doesn't suck as much battery as other third party watch faces.

This honestly should not be that neat.

I am a fool, .99 cents was way to cheap to pass up. Is this watch face professional? No, but I feel bad ass using it.

I received a black Moto360 with black leather wrist band for Christmas. I don't know if its the child or geek or childgeek in me but it is hands down the coolest Christmas present I have received in quite some time. Ease of use, vast amounts of information at my fingertips. It took a few days to get used to but man this thing is awesome.

So GAF, Moto 360 or Asus Zenwatch? I can get both for pretty much the same price (except the 360 is an open box).

I do like that the zenwatch is a little thinner.

Personally I'm a bigger fan of the Zenwatch for the price. The 360 is the first one that I really wanted, but by the time I wanted to get it - there were just too many design compromises unearthed that made it no longer something I wanted.

My father surprised me with a Samsung Gear Fit for Christmas. At first I was a little hesitant about the functionality and look (30's, executive), but after giving it a week I'm really happy.

It looks good and I've gotten several compliments and questions. I used to work in IT for this company and I've got a reputation as a "techie", so the look and feel fits right in.

I'm most impressed with how well it syncs to my Note 3. It grabs calls and responds to notifications with ease. So far I've just tried a few 3rd party apps (navigator plug in and flashlight) but both worked seamlessly. The built in fitness apps are nice too and while I don't think the pedometer is 100% accurate, it's already motivated me to walk a little longer than I otherwise would this vacation.

Edit: Oh, and 5 day battery life is pretty nice!

I have a Note 4 and am increasingly interested in a smartwatch. Should I stick with Samsung for compatibility or look into something else? Played around with the Gear S at Best Buy today, which was pretty damn nice, but I'm having a hard time justifying that price tag and I'm worried about Tizen.

The Moto 360 seems fine performance wise, but just looks / feels too cheap. Does anyone have any experience with it?

I have zero interest in the Pebble.

Don't go with any of the Gear watches that require a Galaxy. You'll want an AndroidWear watch due to the fact that it's going to be iterated/updated the most, will have more apps made for it, and isn't going to limit your phone decisions since they'll be compatible with basically any Android phone.

Have you seen a Moto 360 in person? I have the black version and it actually looks pretty damn slick imo. The steel one does too. Doesn't feel or look cheap. I'm really happy with mine.

Well again, I own a brand new Note 4, so keeping it in the family might be a benefit for me. However, I definitely agree with you that Android Wear will be much more accessible with the development community and regular updates.

I've only played with demo units at Best Buy for the Moto 360, which is just the basic black w rubber model and pre-loaded animations. Again, didn't feel "premium" enough for me, but I'm probably just taken with the shiny form factor of the Gear S. Do you own the steel band? And what kind of phone are you using with it?

I got a Moto 360 for Christmas and have been enjoying it. I like the fitness tracking and it's encouraged me to clean up my email habits and expand my calendar use.

Anyway, is there is a good place to look for watch faces? I feel like the selection is pretty limited. A lot of really nerdy stuff that isn't very stylish. (Ala the Pac-Man watch posted above)

I only know of the android wear watch face section of the play store. If anyone else knows any other places I'd like to know the answer to this as well

I have a first gen Moto X and the standard 360 which actually comes with a genuine leather band. Don't think any come with a rubber or silicone one yet (though you could swap it out for a non-standard one).

Get the Facer app and/or the Watchmaker app and then either browse Facerepo or the Reddit subs: r/Facer / r/Watchmaker.

Girlfriend got me a Sony SW2 for Christmas. What apps can you guys recommend?

Is Android Wear compatible with it or am I stuck with Sony's own system

Hmmm, maybe floor demo units are rubber and the actual retail product is leather? I'd be interested in the black metal band instead, but that drives the price up to $300.

I use my Moto 360 for everything including sweaty activities so the leather band started to smell weird. I tried Saddle Soap but the smell didn't go away completely :/

How is it holding up with all the activities?

I only wear mine for work/casual things and throw on my trusty and much abused watch for everything else. I have had the watch now since Christmas and it is really a neat watch that I have grown quite fond of with everything it can do.

Really well, i scratch the shit out of it at work and while doing auto body work on my car and i can't see any visible scratches on my black one. The only problem is the leather band smelling.

Yeah, that was my biggest worry. I accidentally bang this thing on all kinds of shit and neither the glass nor body has any scratches. I was paranoid and careful about it the first week or two, and now I don't even think about it.

So my best friend and her husband surprised me with a Sony Smartwatch 3 as a gift. I actually like the way it looks and the reflexive screen (or whatever it is) is neat for not being the backlight on just to see the time.

I'm confused about when the watch will listen though. Sometimes it has the "OK Google" prompt on the watch face and sometimes it doesn't and if I have my phone in my hand I'm not sure how to get search results on my phone rather than the watch, can someone explain this to me because I'm at a loss.

If the screen is on, it's listening. It doesn't need to display "OK Google". As for the phone listening, I'm not totally sure. Sometimes the phone works for me when I say the full "OK Google now" and sometimes it refers me to the watch. Not sure if there's a setting I'm missing.

Actually, you seem to be correct. If I let the watch go dim (I'm assuming that's "sleep mode") the phone respond and results show up on the phone.

There definitely a learning curve here but it seems it could be useful.

I decided to get a Sony Smartwatch 3 instead of a moto 360. I might as well get the most technologically advanced watch if I'm going to give android wear a fair shake. it doesn't actually look that bad but I cant wait to switch the plastic strap for steel. I'm getting at least 2 days battery life too

I got a smartwatch for managing notifications. Androidwear has been great so far except for two issues:
GMail still doesn't offer 'Mark as Read' actionable notifications. I could switch to CloudMagic but it's a frustrating decision to make just as Gmail app finally supports adding yahoo, outlook and other accounts so it might have been my sole email app.

There's too much swiping on the watch to pick actions. :/

I haven't checked out many android wear apps but at least I can finally browse GAF on my wrist lol

Finally got to try wear the LG G Watch R on my wrist and it fits really well!

It's really nice on my arm and looks good. Is it still worth getting a Android Wear watch though?

I couldn't do anything else on this store model than change watch faces and mute it.

Heck yea, when you feel naked without your smart watch you know it's necessary. You may want to wait until Moto 360 Version 2 though.

P.S. The new motorola is useless. Never had this problem before. It's just a replacement watch strap.

I tried a Moto 360 on at Best Buy yesterday. Unless I'm missing something it was only 3 demo screens - message received -> Reply -> Reply to messages on your wrist!

Kind of disappointing that there isn't a good way to get a feel for what the Android Wear experience is before just up and buying one. :\

Ha! That's a good example of Android Wear finding its way.

Soo ugly, am I right or amirite? ;P

Where did you get that watch face? it looks great.

I should figure out how to mod/create watch faces though too. I love the look of the ones that are just based off real watches, but I want to change them to show weather and battery percentages and stuff. haha

Twice I've noticed that when I get texts from two different people, the voice command sends the text to the older text, even when I'm reading the newer one. Am I doing something wrong?

I don't think that's ever happened to me. I get multiple texts all the time and it replies fine provided I've selected the proper thread. When you're in the right conversation, I just swipe right to the reply option and speak. The only thing I've noticed is if it transcribes my text incorrectly and I cancel the message out, attempting to send another text won't work. I have to go back out and go back into the thread, but it doesn't happen always.

oh, those aren't mine. Did follow the link I embedded with the picture? There's a link to the watchface there. You can find a lot of tips on customizing/creating your own watchface on those facepro subrreddits. I'm ambivalent about all these intricately copied watchfaces; I don't venture much beyond the basic androidwear stuff

Thanks. I rarely if ever notice embedded links in pictures. Cause most of the time its just a link to someones photo upload site with the same picture, haha.

LG is becoming the samsung of smartwatches

huh?! Although it would be amusing if LG becomes the main dog in Android Wear while Samsung is still trying to push their Gear/Tizen crap lol.
