Android Wear |OT| 2nd Gen is Here

for the wifi, do you have to set up your watch on your wifi network, or does the phone pass on all the details like SSID/password so they are always both on the same network?

On your watch, through the Wear app. My 2,4GHz SSID is hosted to force devices to my 5GHz network, so I have to manually add the SSID via the phone, but you can search for Networks on the phone. If it needs a password, you need to go to your phone.

It doesn't share your phone's saved networks.

so they can be on different SSIDs as long as they can see each other on the LAN? Because my phone is usually on a 5GHz ac wifi and I guess the watch is 2.4GHz b/g only?

Anyone have (or taken a look at) one of these Olio devices yet? Expensive as fuck but damn they look nice. That black steel is gorgeous.

I've been waiting to get a look at the Moto 360 2 before making any decisions, and frankly I'm still not 100% sure I want a watch.

They don't even need to be on the same LAN. You do need your phone to set it up on any secured WiFi the first time, but after that it'll connect and get notifications through the internet.

If the flat tire is such a problem, there have been plenty of good round alternatives. What's wrong with the Urbane if you want a metal regular watch? You can put any 22mm band on our you want, so that can't be it.

Still too big to pass off as a regular watch I'd want to wear, for me anyway. A smaller, no flat tire circular screen with next generation spec improvements would have been interesting. Main reason why a smartwatch would interest me is if it can pass off as a regular watch to replace the one I wear now while adding more functionality, the flat tire prevents that.

But the 360 is bigger than the Urbane...

The flat tire doesn't bother me, but I still see no reason to get the next 360. Except for a better battery I don't know why i should get a new one.

Might go for another brand for my next watch but they aren't doing anything to convince me either. I think I might stay with my current 360 for the foreseeable future until it's rendered useless.

Because the OG 270 performs awful. Try a newer watch and compare.

I mean I know it's worse than others by what we've been discussing in this thread. But it's doing fine for me now and it's doing everything I want it to do. Not sure if spending another 100+ is worth it to me for the extra performance right now.

Have you ever tried another watch? Just curious.

Only for a few minutes when sampling others. Never did a "full day test drive" though as I didn't know many people with a watch to try out. All in store stuff where you just swiped a bunch of cards and got a general gist.

Anyone have impressions of the Urbane vs. the Watch R? Scanning things seems to imply they're basically the same watch, with the Urbane being more sophisticated looking and the Watch R being more sporty.

Basically. The chassis look pretty much identical other than the finishing (metal vs plastic and better standard strap). You can replace the strap easily enough on the GWR and it is much less expensive in case you're curious but not entirely sold on the concept.

On Amazon here in the US, I see the Urbane for $295 and the GWR for $289 (though this isn't Prime). When I hunt around for suggested US retail on the GWR I'm not finding much, and even seeing "this product is not available in your country" in some places.

Ack, had the random battery drain again today. Hopefully 1.3 fixes it.

I have this issue and the "thinks it's dead" battery. When Android Wear attempts to update, or when I'm checking my heart rate (which, I don't know I even try, it's not even consistent most the time) - it'll just die (and won't reboot when I force restart it). I'll take it home to charge and it'll boot up on the cradle: 45% available.

I wonder how it'll look size-wise vs. the Urbane. But damn that flat tire is butt ugly. It's one of those "once you see it you can't unsee it kind of things." Surprised they are carrying that forward.

Of course, pricing is gonna be key. I see the Urbane is under $300 via Amazon (here in the US) at the moment. Could be one of those things that hits a Black Friday or Cyber Monday deal as well. If Moto 360 2 is also $300, I think I'd lean Urbane so I don't have to deal with that flat tire.

You know the one thing I really dislike about Android Wear...there isn't a way to change the screen timeout time. I don't feel like it lasts long enough. It's basically what, a couple seconds at most?

Yeah, it sucks, there are a number of watchfaces that override it. Watch Maker does too.

Puji Black, for one, too.

It's terrible when you want to take a picture of your watch but can't because by the time you hit the shutter button, the screen is off already

Flat tire used to bother me seeing it in photos before I got the 360, but I got over it real quick. Though of course it would be great if it didn't have it, it's really not a big deal in use. No one that's ever taken a look at my watch in real life has even mentioned or noticed it and I personally would rather have that than a bigger bezel.

Am I seeing it correctly? Is the black segment still there? I thought that would have been rectified in the second iteration?
