Major Nelson, like everyone else at Microsoft, is completely out of touch. No one communicates the strategy because apparently there is no strategy. It's incredible really to think about a company like this who should have so much experience launching products and yet they seem to have no idea what they are doing with this one.

MS cooked up the DRM schemes and couldn't even find a message that would allow them to coherently defend them for more an a week after e3. Now many of their top people look like clowns and out of touch through all the confusion and mixed messages, hopefully they won't try to talk to people like we're all idiots next time.

I don't like Major Nelson that much, but is that kind of name-calling nessecary? He's still a human being even if he tries to do a job for MS. Do you tell people they're assholes in real life or is it just an internet thing? These guys are just working in the video games industry, not killing anyone. It's possible for people to be civil, even on the internet, or am I wrong? This is the kind of behaviour that gives hardcore gamers a bad rep....
Okay, let's reword it.
He's unprofessional and inconsiderate. During a time in which Microsoft needed a united PR front, he represented the company poorly and was, quite honestly, disrespectful and, it turns out, completely inaccurate in his answers. His actions represented Microsoft in a poor light, and yet, also completely appropriately represented their attitude towards their customers. That attitude being contempt and disregard.

There are a shitload of people on TGWTG. I agree that some (or even most) of them can be annoying, but saying all of them are obnoxious or make terrible reviews isn't accurate. It's like saying everything on a site like Cracked or Funny or Die is bad just because some of the contributors aren't good.

But he is an asshole. Taking the mic out of Joe's hand like that and pretty much lecturing him. It's true that Joe got bullied in that situation, just look at both of their manerisms after MN takes the mic away. But what can Joe do in that situation? Nothing and MN knows it. If Joe so much as takes the mic back he's finished. Nobody will give him an interview again and MN took advantage of that. He's an asshole.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure Nelson was right in suggesting that Joe didn't actually know how hard or easy it would be to turn the DRM stuff on or off.
