Angry Joe Responds to MS DRM

Honest to God, until the interview with Larry Hryb I had no idea he was exclusive with the Xbox and had never owned a PlayStation. None of the videos I'd watched previously or appearances with ThatGuyWithTheGlasses gave that impression. Taking a look at the reviews on his own website illuminated it for me and he had it himself during the reaction to the interview video that he put up. Joe was on the level with his ranting and did so from the perspective of gamers in general, not just fanboys of one particular system. Well done.

The whole thing was a success for the community, however, because the message got across, not just to Microsoft, but to the general public. Whatever the actual reason, consumers rejected the console and Microsoft listened. That is something to celebrate. Even if you didn't tweet, didn't facebook, didn't even talk about it outside of Gaf. If you also didn't preorder the fucking thing, you can celebrate and give yourself a pat on the back for contributing to the corporation listening to the consumers. Good job.

The Twitter thing did have some weight. Not because Microsoft saw it, but because it pushed people to NOT preorder the X1. The more people knew it was a issue, and the more people were against Microsoft, the less console was being preordered. Campaigns are never about being heard, its capitalism here, so the public have no word on stuff. But Capitalism have ONE role for the consumers. To buy, or not to buy. This is the question.

For Sony it was clear the fans screamed and they listened, MS didnt flinch and went into May still pushing for this idea all into E3 still
Trying to sell this idea. They were set on to do this clearly planned all this out years ago, again if it was embraced thats it it would had kept going and Sony would follow btw it would be the new standard.

I remember along time ago Phil harrison saying PS4 might have a digital aspect perhaps this same xbox one concept, these
people been wanting to do this for a long time.

I CAN see this hitting harder like it seemingly did with him when you mainly stick with only one line of platforms for console games. For someone like me whose generally been more platform agnostic and mainly just has leanings it was more "well I still have Wii U and hopefully PS4" but I can see for him it's basically "PC or Fuck You."

I do find it kinda crazy though that if you're getting decent revenue from online game coverage, popular enough to go to E3, that you don't at least get a PS3 for a few exclusives that may interest you, but (having not seen the full video yet) maybe he'll consider a PS4 for that reason after seeing what Microsoft was willing to publicly attempt.

He's more of a PC gamer in my eyes than any console anyways. I feel like the majority of his videos are about PC games. Or the PC version if it's a multiplatform release.

You can be passionate, and just stick with one gaming company. I'm mostly a Nintendo gamer myself with no interest in either PS4 or XB1, but gaming is my life. (It's pathetic, but it's true.)

They both came off extremely poorly, he and Geoff later apologized for it and made up. Your posts in this thread kind of confuse me, first you want people to ignore him... then you link to his site in an attempt to discredit him. What the hell man, he kill your dog or something?

Odd to see others in here dissing the guy as a fanboy as well.

For me, that's unbelievable. I do unterstand that one has preferecens, but sticking with just one manufacturer, missing out so many great games...it seems like one has very small horizone to behave that way. It's like I claim "playing guitar is my live" but all I do is using an E and a G powerchord all day.

My "shit the bed and cleaned it up" analogy works here, the damage is done and no matter what they do that'll lurk in the back of our minds. Plus $100 more/required Kinect/poor indie policy/less power still gives people fuel to go "forget it I'm sticking with PS4" rather than switch thanks to abandoning DRM.

I understand the vitriol for MS but really don't get the hate on AJ and the movement for change. MS is still in the toilet with this but at least I can entertain buying one.

He was doing it for the Xbox fans though, Somebody like Boogie/Francis thats a guy that is talking for the gamers, go see his
Boogie video about this same subject he puts it into real gamer/consumer perspective.

I like Joe btw he is very creative, has a persona, his reviews videos are one of a kind on YT.

Boogie said he was going to buy the XBOX and that a lot of the features appealed to him. You seem to think that everyone with an opinion must play and review games on every system. That doesn't apply to you?
 
People can bitch about the guy for his personality all they want, doesn't take away from the fact that he was one of the most dogged interviewers at E3 when it came to MS's bullshit and he showed up a lot of so-called professional journalists. The guy clearly sees what he does as more than just a job and I've gotta give him props for that, regardless of how he gets carried away sometimes.

Oh, definitely, they have a few exclusives I'd like to play, so pending them being crap I'd like to get an XB1 at some point. Especially when it's a matured platform and we can see just what Microsoft plans to do and go with it.

Why would it? His message is bang on. The policies were shit, the policies have been fixed and a lot of whiners are sooking about family sharing, blaming us for Microsoft taking it away. He's just completely right.

Why is it unbelievable? He never claimed his site was a review everything one, he's not a professional journalist or anything, he's just a gamer. He has an Xbox and a pc and he reviews games for those systems. He's going to get a PS4 and an Xbox One, and along with his pc he'll review games for those systems. Is there some hidden requirement somewhere that says if you review games you must own all systems?

Some of you have the most ridiculous complaints. Why aren't you complaining that he's not reviewing games for the Wii U, 3DS or Vita?

Just a reminder that was 3 years ago, with Joe having a small amount of experience relative to today, that he followed up with a meeting with Geoff where they discussed the matter.

As well as that, just a reminder that he has done great interviews with developers where he doesn't hold back on the hard questions , as well as the interview with Major Nelson.

Nobody hates him, I just find the overexcitement happyness Applauding MS for switching up for their benefit funny. MS did not change due to a twitter campaign from their fanbase, or angry joe videos.

Lets be clear that tons of xbox one preorders were done with all policies/DRM still on, many were ready to embrace it, we saw them number one on Amazon remember?.

So MS actually sold the Xbox one to many but not enough to please sharedholders. Gamers won regardless because this didnt become the standard like it could of been if MS implemented this.

Sony patents all kinds of crap they MIGHT use. That was the difference in the lead up: Sony patented something just like they did in the PS2 days, whereas there were numerous rumors implying Microsoft was actively implementing SOMETHING. Which they did, until the backlash finally made them buckle.
