I did not say that hip-hop wasn't created by African-americans. I just found it weird that Banks (in her interview) seems unaware that black people created the older and more influential jazz/blues.
As you are clearly unaware of exactly when hip hop started, clearly unaware of any artists besides Wayne and Snoop, etc , etc. You can hate the genre all you like, but when you spew complete bullshit and generalizations based on limited knowledge that shit is annoying.

Oh and Iggy is shit. She has zero talent she makes Soulja Boy look like fucking Nas in comparison. But you know she has a nice ass so that's something i guess.

Why, because she didn't bow down to Banks' bullshit? Could she have shown some empathy for some of the social stuff? Hell yes. The thing is, none of this even became an issue until the person that was beefing with her for two years, finally managed to start the new wave against her via social media, coasting off of the constant injustice against minorities. Hell, it's not like every rapper decided to speak on shit either. For some people, it's a hustle, period.

The girl has said some problematic shit throughout her career. Some of the ire is rightfully deserved. I still think the raccoon picture might lowkey be the worst, but people are doing the long reaching with some of this shit.

Why is it bullshit, though? Because it's coming from Banks and not a rapper you fuck with? Regardless of who said it, she did make some valid points and twitter is here for a reason, him tweeting what he said doesn't diminish anything he said. Sure, all rappers should beef on the phone and shouldn't tweet or write diss songs anymore

Anyone talking about being a slave master in their lyrics deserves to have a legend of the genre publicly lecture them. Iggy doesnt get to pretend she's taking the "high road", her career is full shitty and questionable stuff that comes out of her mouth.

She changed "runaway slave" to "runaway slave-master".

The next line is "shittin on the past"...

I get the distinct feeling she was attempting to say she's not a slave-master, she runs away from the idea of her "races" past.. and that she is shitting on that past.

I really don't see how anyone could interpret it any other way. You think she's actually stupid enough to call herself a slave-master on a rap song on an album produced by TI?

She talks ignorantly and is insensitive about race on Twitter.. but the "she called herself a slave master" stuff seems.. really out of context.

Wtf are you talking about? I fuck with Banks' album hard. That doesn't mean that I can't criticize both.

How many times do people have to bring up Banks' laundry list of racist, prejudiced, bigoted bullshit (not to mention the Cosby nonsense) that she's been spouting not only at Iggy (for years), but a ton of other artists? So what if she has a point or two here and there. A broken clock is right twice a day, but that sure as hell doesn't mean that I'm going to follow it. It's hater shit at this point and she finally found something that works.

I wish more rappers would go back to diss records instead of twitter, or let the music talk. The other white female rappers would have and did do it, back in the day. I doubt Iggy has the skills to. Last time Banks took it to music, she got fried. I guess, lol @ expecting either one to actually act like rappers/artists. To be fair though, it's only a handful of the mainstream ones (male or female) that still do.

Sure, call her out for that questionable shit. Ross, Wayne, and Minaj got raked over the coals for their bars. It's only fair. That's not why this shit started though.

edit: To add on, Iggy will be here today and gone tomorrow. If Banks spent half of this anger going after the actual people pulling the strings (cause she doesn't give a fuck about burning bridges) and actually living the life she's now about, people probably wouldn't be as quick to bring up her mess.

Whoomp: I did google her explanation and it was pretty stupid (something about how the past is mastered, huh?); but I still don't see how people can claim someone saying they are a "runaway" something is the same as them outright calling themselves something. It quite literally indicates that it's something they don't want to be..

I think she's stupid for putting that line in there, regardless of her intent. Just shows how tone-deaf she is.

I mean, if you're a successful white rapper you gotta tread carefully. Judging by the shit she posts on twitter she just does not get that.

And in that first video of hers where she's on a stoop in the ghetto with black chicks, and she's got some little black girl's arms wrapped around her neck in a loving embrace like she's the Great White Hope? Shit is weird.

It's actually a little black guy. I find it weird that she decided to put a child in a music video of song that has nsfw lyrical content.

I kinda dig her songs in a guilty pleasure sort of way, but man, she's not going to age well.
You can already see it.
But I guess as long as that ass is in shape I'll be down

I don't understand how this shitty rap music is THE African-American music/heritage !?!??!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't this genre start in the 80s and became a thing in the 90s and now (and even then?) it's just about fucking bitches and eating asses like cupcakes and wet vaginas etc..? Such art.

Whatever the fuck happened to Jazz and Blues, which basically gave birth to Rock'n'Roll?
Guess this idiot Azelia Banks thinks black music started with Snoop Dogg and lil wayne.

No. Rap music was about empowering African Americans, it went mainstream and now portrays a negative image of African Americans, very ironic but mainly down to not giving artists creative control, no self respecting artist who wants to rap about empowerment would let a label dictate what songs they make. I'm white btw and you have a very ignorant view of rap and you should research before you speak.

Where does HipHopGAF stand on the whole Cosby biz? Cause Banks is straight up defending a "Father Figure" saying he's another victim of the big white grinding gear machine...

Is this a standard opinion around here? Or ... anywhere?

And for me to give a shit about how dumb Iggy's rhymes are she would need to write them herself first - which i'm sure she doesn't - and then they would need to come from the mouth of someone who isn't an obvious flash in the pan waste of airtime.

I feel like Banks is tanking any notion of a career in her art going after the lowest hanging fruit possible. And then slowly losing her mind on twitter when people aren't rallying behind her every opinion. Does the backstage world of rap and hip hop have a GM like the fuckin WWF telling her she has go villain now? Seems so manufactured at times.

Seems like she has some issues with race.

Has there been any sort of real proof of him doing anything, other than people saying "I was raped by Bill Cosby"? I haven't kept up.

Other than like 8+ people all telling similar stories? I suppose not. Hard to have hard proof about such things especially going on 10 or 20 years after the fact. I'm pretty sure there is court proceedings now tho .. where as just a few weeks ago it was all just getting aired out and jobbing his career.

It's an interesting piece of the puzzle to me as it kind of puts two aspects of banks at odds against each other. Are you a supportive woman in the media limelight who doesn't dismiss these allegations or do you support the man based on the idea that the white culture/media has decided his usefulness has ended and is now using him to degenerate black culture?

There's probably a MUCH better way to word that than I chose but i am no poet.

20 people telling the same story...yea, Cosby is a piece of shit. It's not like this is new, some of these women accused him a decade+ ago.

Banks defending Cosby tells me a lot about her views, not just on race but women. She's simply an ugly, hateful person...it's hard to deny that. The 212 video has 80mil views, which is crazy impressive. Yet ever since then she has burned every bridge imaginable. Interscope, Diplo, Pharrell, gay dudes, etc. Now she has pissed off Hot 97, who gave her the publicity she craves. No wonder shes' mad, she has nowhere else to go. Her career has been kneecapped.

Whatever, I'm saying she has a good point regardless of the previous shit she said.

And his point is its all BS because her intent was nevery to criticize Iggy cause of race. She has been beefing with her for years. Only now she found something that can stick. It's hard to take Banks seriously when she just comes across as jealous and opportunistic. Doesn't seem authentic.

I don't listen to Iggy but I hope she shits on Banks mainstream career wise. Banks is a hateful person.

Yep.

Over a dozen women.

All with similar stories.

Spread over damn-near decades.

Some of whom have already attempted to take him to court so their stories are documented.

There ya go. Knew someone would say it better. Agree 100%

Alot of her rambling about race and the hip hop environment comes off as childish and attention seeking. The way she puts her opinion out there doesn't just hurt her career...it's fucking damaging to the very cause she says she's trumpeting. Comes across crazy childish and entitled...not a good way to get people on either side of a fence to come to the conversation.

Doesn't make her point any less valid because it's not like she said something new. People have always questioned iggy's accent, the cultural appropriation throughout hip-hop/black culture; she was just a person of stature to talk about it and make it an even more relevant topic.

No lies detected. Banks is gahbage.

Im sure it goes without saying but blaming a majority population when someone or something terrible happens in a minority is really toxic to race relations. As soon as you do that, you make it so that everyone questions the credence of your community as a whole (which is wrong in itself, but it happens and people trying to generalize and categorizing things is a natural response from your brain to increase efficiency).

She is trying to make herself a spokesperson for hip-hop (and I guess Black people) and act as a gatekeeper but doing so in crude, misguided and personally motivated ways. We would be having a better conversation now if people paid attention to say, Childish Gambino's Breakfast Club interview, where him and Charlamagne had a pretty good conversation about white privledge in hip-hop. But nobody cares about that because there is no personal bloodlust for a white rapper chick with a fat ass involved.

Generations of people grew up with Cosby as a father figure, and I'm sure people are frustrated that the person or character they thought they knew isn't who he is, but that isn't an excuse to "cape" for a serial rapist when you spend your free time accusing TI of "caping" for an Australian white girl who is appropriating music. Fuck outta here.

I'm not black, but I'm a fan of hip-hop culture and this psychotic chick trying to be a spokesperson of the culture and making blatantly racist, personally motivated, ugly and faux-intellectual comments over and over and getting headlines is frustrating and disgusting. To top it all off, she hides behind her marginalized demographic and "free speech" as excuses for her vile persona and actions. That makes you a terrible person. I don't want a terrible person handling legitimate issues in terrible ways. And yeah she brought awareness to it, but by doing so only made people approach it from her bigoted perspective. And now the entire conversation is basically white people can't be in hip-hop and paying dues is off the table.

My thought is that she was playing on the original Kendrick Lamar lyric, but instead described herself as a slave master either because she's white or because she's "the best". Nicki pretty much did the same thing here.

Half of her songs are about how she's the realest or whatever.
