Another Screw Gamestop Thread: Preorder bonuses

So all these developers give these exclusive items to the retailers to get you to preorder the product. Most the time I give a shit, but occasionally there is an item that makes the preorder worth it. Case in point, the Dante action figure.

Of course the store gets 3 fucking action figures so practically everyone gets screwed out of the bonus for preordering.

Today I didnt even get the damn Heavy Rain download voucher. The store gets 5 vouchers for the 20 preorders they have. This is the kind of thing that pisses me off. At least with the action figure the limited nature of it makes sense. But a piece of paper with a download code? Can it really be so hard not to send enough of those to a store?

let the flames begin.

Physical items like action figures or t-shirts I can understand... "running out" of DLC is just plain dumb. Run out of the stupid little cards? Here, give us your email address and we'll send one out right away.

That shouldn't be too hard, right?

They once didn't have enough of the pre-order bonus I wanted.

That was the day I forever stopped pre-ordering with GS.

Sup Amazon.

If you preorder online from gamestop you will always get your preorder item. I must have bought 10 games from them online with bonus ang got all of them.

I've gotten all of my preorder stuff from my Gamestop. A few times, they've forgetten to give me my bonus, but I just remind them and they grab it for me.

So... pleasant experiences for me.

You're part of the problem, you know.

Hmm...weird because amazon (where I pre-ordered) isn't gett the DLC until March 4 due to the publisher (or something like that). Kinda odd how gamestop got some.

Email Gamestop. I emailed them about not getting a Banjo code and they will ask for your receipt number and then *hopefully* send you a code.

they probably did get codes to fill all of the pre-orders but some douche decided he'd like to keep them just like they kept your dante figure!

You'll get the code, it just won't work for two weeks until it's uploaded I thought.

Amazon was the winner in this round. Every single buyer from there gets a code. Now Gamestop customers know how it feels to get screwed.

Come to AmazonGAF, we have cookies! Get Amazon Prime and you'll never look back.

LOL. Sorry you missed out, but I was at the midnight launch for Bioshock 2/Dante's Inferno and everyone was laughing at what a piece of shit the Dante figure was. Wouldn't stand up, and fell to pieces if anyone so much as looked at it.

Kind of on topic Gamestop rant...
You seriously have to say "No thank you" 10 times before you get out that store with all the shit they offer you to preorder. Perhaps my problem is the thank you part.

This must be just your Gamestop location as I've never heard this argument before.

Pro-Tip: Making eye contact while saying No Thank You gets the message across much more, as you can express disinterest easier and it stops hard sells cold.

not really.

there must be a large percentage of total rubes who shop at gamestop or I've had unbelievably good luck with shopping there. its quite easy to walk in, buy a game, and be out the door in less than 3 minutes at a gamestop. sometimes less if you don't actually say anything past "I'd like to buy a copy of _________ please" and "It's debit".

Amazon is the way to go. You always get your pre-order bonus and if your UPS comes early (mine doesn't, hurry up fucker I want some Heavy Rain) you can get release day shipping and have the game early in the day.

I thought this would be about UFC Undisputed 2010. There will be four Gamestop exclusive fighters, that's unacceptable.

Did you even ask when you saw them just sticking just the game in the bag?

I got my voucher. (No, I'm not trying to be a dick.)

And to all you Amazon gaffers, I fail cause I am a prime paying Amazon member. :lol

gamestop pressures the publisher for exclusive content, or just gets it first for a limited time period. :(

How else are they going to ensure they get the game day 1??

I mean, the store might run out for goodness sakes!

You just have to be proactive when you know the bonus stuff is going to be something you absolutely have to own. It is bull shit when they advertise that you can get something by pre-ordering, but they do say (most of the time) that it's while supplies last in the fine print. Also, it doesn't hurt to make nice with someone who works at the store you frequent.

Seriously? That's fucking madness.

I pre-ordered MGS3: Subsistence at EB and was pissed when I went to pick up my copy 30 minutes after the store's opening and they didn't have the MGS Saga DVD for me. Never again will I pre-order a game.

I remeber walking into a Gamestop the day Street Fighter IV was released.

"Sorry, but only customers who pre-ordered can pick up the game right now"

What!?

This is not necessarily true. I pre-ordered Too Human from them online (yeah, I know) and they ran out of pre-order codes for the free special edition armor.

I missed out on the Persona 4 Artbook because Gamestop ran out, the bastards :[

I've been all Amazon for some months now and life has been good.

As if they haven't been getting screwed for years on trade-ins and bad customer service? :lol

I've been on the Amazon bandwagon since the big release season last year. Best bandwagon ever. I'll second the notion that we welcome new members! $10 credit toward a future game purchase as a pre-order bonus for a lot of big name releases; comparable pre-order bonuses; release date delivery; no sales tax (depending on where you live).

me and a friend each fully paid for odin sphere preorders back then. when we went to pick it up, a lady in front had just purchased one for her kid. when it was our turn, they said they only had one left and to go to the shelf to pick up the gutted copy. gave us snooty looks when we wanted them factory sealed. f- them.

amazon ftw now. free shipping and no tax for me.

My Gamestop usually has the same issue. They get pre-order bonuses a day or two after release so you have to go back and get it. I would assume it is Gamestop corporate screwing it up. But even with Amazon, they get their DLC out late as well at times. Tekken 6 was a fiasco as well.

I only go to Gamestop once every blue moon for a standout rare or cheap used game. There's really little reason to buy from them in almost any other scenario.

I dont know if this has been addressed, but developers have no control over this stuff. Its the publisher/marketing that develops these promos. Dont blame a developer over something they have no control over.

You can try going to another store and ask for the (Heavy Rain) voucher. If you really wanted the code, you could've cancelled the preorder that very moment and demand your refund...and go to another Gamestop or just any other. I've been in similar situations and all solved by them calling another tsore, asking them to hold them a preorder extra for me, while I'm on my way (wit hteh game and receipt).

Many of the Gamestop rants around here, usually come from people that don't say anything in the store..but come here and quickly rant about it...online.

  • They give you an opened copy of a game? Then say "I don't want it" and leave the store.
  • They gave you the wrong game? Then go to the store and ask for the correct one.
  • The game your preordered wasn't available when you went to pick it up? Cancel the preorder and get a refund (if you paid with store credit you get a gift card, if it was with cash you get the cash, etc..)
  • The preorder extra you wanted, wasn't available when you went to get the game?.. then say you're no longer interested in the game and get a refund of whatever amount you preordered the game with.

Peopel need to talk and don't hold personal grudges, responses and stuff.. :p ..and don't accept any "lie" from an employee; I've seen many stories arund here of customers that knew employees were lying yet, just accepted it..and came here and made a thread about it.

This. The vouchers usually ship in shrinked wrapped packs of 12 or so. So if they got any, they got more than five. So either they gave'em all out, holding them for friends, kept them for their fort made of swag or you just got a bum who was too lazy to look for them or ask if they had more in stock. Outside of this the only other time they don't have the items are either publisher didn't send them or the box containing them is lost in transit (both rare).

As for saying "No Thanks" ten time, don't blame the store, blame the district and regional managers. No employee wants to push that shit on you, but when your job is threatened. And not just the ass-douche-who-played-Mother-3-and -believe-himself-to-be-the-second coming-of-Fred-fucking-Savage-from-the-Wizard (he's the one with the Swag Fort) but people who have established careers there, providing for families & paying mortgages and car notes. Working for years perfectly content, but one week you don't push enough crack ...er Game Informers on the kiddies or fail to convince 12 soccer moms to preorder some low budget South Peak 360 rip-off of Tony Hawk Ride and its the unemployment line for you. What are they supposed to do? The upper management & powers that be haven't worked in stores, if at all, between 5-10 years, but they dictate store practices and guidlines. Spreadsheets and trend charts are what matter no you the customer, the games nor the employees. And I speak from 7 years of working there. While I work there now for the lulz, its sad to see what has happened (since Gamestop took over..EB for LIFE!). If a kick in the balls and a refreshing cup of hot piss down the throat got people in the store to buy Game Informer and reserve Activison Super Plastic Title X, there'd be a lot less thirsty gamers out there.

They used to do this where I live too. I just started going elsewhere and always got my games day one. When Modern Warfare 2 and Mass Effect 2 came out I picked them up from Gamestop on launch day without problems. He asked if I pre-ordered, I said "nope" and he said "that'll be 60-(something) bucks".

I guess they saw it as a punishment to make you pre-order the next time, but I guess they realized that they are only punishing themselves from sales.

And yes, they do bug you to pre-order. I feel like I'm talking to one of those cheating game runners at the fair. Quit trying to hustle me.

You should charge them 4% interest on the $5 you put down since you pre-ordered it.

Pre-ordering is awesome on Amazon, because you're not really pre-ordering, but you are. You're not putting any money down, you're just buying it day one, but you still get bonuses, release day delivery (if you're Prime), tax free, delivered to your front door, etc.

Gamestop is still good for console games that I'm not sure I'm going to like (thus buy used.)

All the gamestops in the area were short changed on the DLC codes. Reading through the heavy rain thread and apparently this happened to quite a few people.
