Ant-Man |OT| Is It Too Late To Change The Name?

This was the definition of focus-tested marvel tripe.

The jokes, the action, the villain, the hero motivations, the comic relief and the tension was so contrived.

Its like it wants to be an origin movie, then an mcu tie-in and heist film all at once. A cleverly devised heist movie wouldve been so much better. Instead its a mish mash of everything.

Saw it today. I liked it although it definitely took some time to get really started. I definitely feel like it played a little to safe at times yet the smaller scale of events really helped deviate from your typical superhero story. Some jokes and dialogue fell a bit flat at times but the cast was all likable and there were some genuinely funny moments. The main theme is also really catchy.

Really enjoyed it. One of the better handlings of an origin story, given that the suit already existed and that there was an Ant-man identity before Lang.

Not sure how the film would have felt with the fast-cut style of Edgar Wright, but there were a few scenes that looked like they would have benefited better from his touch.

The heist angle was a nice departure for the MCU, but of course it ends up with a fight against a CGI villain. Felt like its own film until the last act when they threw a whole bunch of Avengers MCU stuff all in at once.

What I found great about the climax was that it felt earned. Yeah the movie devolves into another cgi battle by the end but by that point, they had totally sold me on the shrinking concept and Scott fighting for his daughter. Combined with the unique set, it was just fuckin cool. It helps immensely that the action scenes felt fresh but never overstayed their welcome.

These are not the movies you're looking for.

Go play with your out of the box action figures and create the movie you want.

I just saw it for the third time today, to me its definitely one of the best Marvel movies. I'll probably see it one more time before it's taken out of theaters.

Really fun movie. Paul Rudd being Paul Rudd, but he got the charm and the ability to make him a believable superhero. I'd mourn the loss of him (or future Wasp) more than Thor, simply. Evangeline Lily and Michael Douglas did pretty good too.

Big bad guy Cross
knowing of the plans- I am left to assume he knew of their plans because he got into the suit and spied on them. I really can't see any other way he could've known that Ant Man would actually end up in the casing.

Those projectile grower and shrinker things were really awesome. I can see that being used crazy awesome in third Avengers.

Ant-Man is nearing in on €300 million worldwide, and has still to premiere in China, Japan and other key markets. Seeing that it cost €130 million, I think it is doing pretty well for Marvel.

I'd probably put it fourth behind Guardians, Avengers, and Winter Soldier. So yeah, pretty damn good. Scott to me is just such an endearing character, which is massively aided by Rudd's performance. So insanely hyped for Civil Waer.

I'm curious to see the reactions to Ant-Man in Japan only because he kind of looks like Kamen Rider.

Yeah my top 5 is currently

Winter Soldier
Age of Ultron
Guardians of the Galaxy
Ant-Man
Avengers

Yeah, Age of Ultron's probably fifth for me. None of the Thor/Iron Man movies really match up to the excitement of a team-up film. Really looking forward to pretty much every major Marvel movie coming up now.

I liked it a lot. It was a simple story, but the characters were all likeable, even the 'sidekicks'. The 'let me tell you a story' bits were pure comedic genius.

I saw this today and really enjoyed it. It followed the Marvel formula but it changed things up a bit slightly with the heist portion, at least up until the last act. As with most Marvel movies the villain is a bit lacking but he serves the purpose. They put together a good cast with this, Rudd and Douglas were great, and Cena was good comic relief. The movie was funnier than I expected as well.

My only real complaint with the movie is the
subatomic world bit. The setup for that is too obvious, and it's too easy for him to get out.
But that is a small complaint as
most other Marvel movies end with "punch/shoot/explode the bad guy until you win"
so this is at least more interesting.

This movie is in my top 3 Marvel movies, after Guardians and Winter Soldier.

Saw it yesterday and again today. Gone straight to the top of my Marvel chart. Felt different in tone and style to others so far. Really highly recommend it! :D

Is there any word on why they removed the name quips from the trailers in the final version? The thread title stands out :)

I vaguely remember it being mentioned in an interview. Or was it just a musing in a review?
Anyway it could be, because there is a similar joke later in the movie

People probably won't care about this but it looks like Ant-Man will make more money than Captain America 1 did in America.

Same should be true for Germany:
Ant-Man is going to beat Incredible Hulk and First Avenger to be the third worst performing MCU over here. First Avenger has 0.3 million tickets (don't know any more precise number.
After 2 week Ant-Man has sold 320 796 tickets. I don't think it will close the gap to 0.8 million tickets, which each Iron Man (1) and Winter Soldier sold.
Number 1 is Age Of Ultron with 2.4 million tickets

Finally got around to seeing this today, and while it was enjoyable, it just didn't blow me away. The story seemed a bit contrived and predictable for the most part, and if they had cast someone other than Rudd, I probably wouldn't have liked it much at all. He's good in the role, and is charming as usual.

On the the other hand, I am interested in seeing the character in Civil War and the next Avengers movies. I liked him enough to want him back, just not necessarily in a film dedicated solely to Ant-Man again.

Saw it a couple of days ago (theater was packed and at a matinee on a weekday at that). It was good....not amazing but I didn't dislike it. Paul Rudd was super charming as underdog hero, and Michael Pena is always a joy to watch. Had some nice laughs and some eye rollers, and being in a crowded theater gave it a fun moviegoing vibe. Liked when ant man was taking out the guards towards the end by rappelling across their necks etc. Villain was alright, but I kind of expected more. My mind actually started to wander towards the end and then it was over heh. Coming in as someone who rather dislikes MCU stuff it was pretty enjoyable but could have been better. 7/10.

And holy shit did Michael Douglas scare me at the beginning with how real his young self looked. That tech is getting better and better. Color me impressed on that detail.

I liked it. Was fun movie and much better than AOU. Also may be I missed it but Paul never said the line is it too late to change the name?
Also was there only one end credit scene?

That was because it was a trailer only line. And you NEVER trust a trailer.

There was 2, The New Wasp suit and one from Civil War

Missed the second one cinema here stopped the movie after 1st one. Can you tell me in spoilers what's the second one?

I went today to see the movie, as it launched really late here. I didn't really plan to, but cinemas didn't have something better. Well, I was blown away. I think I enjoyed as much as GOTG. It was really fun, almost not serious at all. The Thomas scene, the tank, the three friends, all of them delivered some memorable funny scenes. The whole film was just fantastic. It just didn't take itself seriously at all. Also, it's the first time that I hear the viewers laughing so much. An awesome experience.

Oh, and the actor was as likeable as Chris Pratt.

Edit: lol Apparently it only launched here and in Japan so late.

I like Rudd in the role, I think he's a good fit. But I think once you get to the second half of the movie, it feels less about him and he is left to just be there in the suit while Douglas and Lilly carry the weight of the story.

I'd agree if it weren't for the final battle

Daddy, is that you?

But yeah, the general plot is more centered around Pym.

Glad to hear you liked it, Qurupeke. What region are you in?

Actually took a while for me to find a theater still playing this.

This movie easily ties TWS as my favorite MCU movie. Beginning was a bit dull but after the plot gets rolling it becomes such a fun movie. Loved how all the build up that would typically lead to some seizure inducing explosion fest led to
fight in a little girls room
.

Refresh for latest… Ant-Man has zoomed back to the top of the international chart this weekend off of a super-powered start in China. With a $43.2M three-day weekend, the Middle Kingdom instantly became the Disney/Marvel title’s top-grossing offshore market (by comparison, the UK is No. 2 with $25.4M). This is also the 2nd best weekend start ever for Disney and Marvel in China, behind last May’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
