Anti-work subreddit goes private after disastrous Fox News interview

I worked up from the bottom, so those victims you are defending were me. I've got every right to say that shit works because I did it.
Again, think bigger picture than yourself. Look at all of society. The entire thing depends on it not working for everyone. The question is what to do with the essential workers that don't move up. Those jobs need to be filled.

What the....!? Now we're talking about unions, class disparities etc..? It's headed in a political direction fast.

Well, the thread was fun while it lasted 😂

U have people that are against work period. Why should i have to work for them.

Like the guy was talking in the interview, he works 25 hours in a week, that's basically 3 work days out of the 7 days and he want less work even on top of it.

He's not realistic and the interviewer made good fun at this clown because of it.

Now if this guy was doing some super hard work that fucks you up entirely and has 10 hours a day in super dangerious enviroments, and wants a reduction from 6 days 10 hours to 5 days 8 hours. he got a point.

But a dog walker 25 hours. yea i don't dig it.

You know an effective argument can't even be made.

Well it's not fair to just allow a labor movement to be everyone's punching bag, but outlaw any kind of serious response. This thread is a caricature of reality.

The thread should be closed if no one can respond to anyone.

Well the thread is about the absurd interview, not the actual movement. But eh I was joking anyway.

This "Set for life" guy is really giving out mixed messages. Sand mines in Africa, mining that valuable sand.... Fire fighters actually make pretty good bank...

Maybe you’re not smart enough.

You are woefully ignorant on the value of productivity. Megacorporations don't just happen. Yea, there's cheating and corruption always, but labor almost always builds value anyways. You think people in mines in Africa had a better life before the mines? I mean maybe because of slavery, but otherwise most people living in extreme poverty want to improve their finances.

Productive business doesn't exist to take from people. It provides supplies to meet demands. Most people are not smart enough, or reliable enough, or capable of even knowing that demand exists, so they go to work.

Fuck are you talking about? I’m talking about where life puts you.

And biness is all about paying you the least amount of money I can. If after all costs considered, I’m making 60$ from the 20$ I’m paying you “per hour”(because I don’t pay for OT), is the productivity meeting its value? For whom? The shareholders.

And now you say “but if you ARE SMART you go out there and find your true value”. Sure when your needs are mostly taken care of, but that’s the thing about need isn’t it? It’s different from person to person.

I’m just trying to be philosophical about it. To me time is a worth a lot more than money, but that’s because my needs are not your needs.

But what kind of life is it, to work 10 to 12 hours for 30 to 40 years. Hopefully a thousand years from now people will look back and pitty us.

Sure, but the absurd interview is used to paint the entire great resignation as nothing but people like this loser. And then when you explain anything contrary to that, it's off limits. It's just annoying. There are broad labor trends happening now, and they're more complex than this dog walker.

No, business is about meeting demand. If your labor is not worth much, you won't earn much. I'm not against worker unions btw.

IF this were indeed an actual labor movement, I'd be with you.

It is not. It's an ANTI-labor movement. It's in the name!! (Or, at this point, the old name anyway 😂)

And, I like you, Punished Miku Punished Miku , but don't be dramatic... It's not that "no one can respond to anyone." It's that this thread has generated a lot of funny content and some good societal commentary. But a moderator did issue a warning against political content. And there's a difference between societal and political content.

Lifestyle and work habits are societal. Labor unions and class disparities are... Political.

I don't dislike anyone here, even people I disagree with. No worries.

I just disagree with multiple elements of this discussion. I don't think there is any anti-labor movement. That's ridiculous. I do think work habits are obviously political, which is why its on FOX. It plays into multiple debates and ideologies. But I guess I'll just leave it at that since I can't really explain or say anything.

Yes. But at least here in the United States, if you work a job with long hours and don't like it, you can either switch companies or switch industries. And right now in the United States, there's a labor shortage so companies are trying to attract more talent, and they provide incentives like flexible hours and (after Covid) even flexible work from home arrangements for office/white collar jobs.

No. He walks dogs 20-25 hours a week. That's nowhere near the definition of "long hours." Also, he says in the interview: "laziness is a virtue." So, no, not good for him, or for any of the other idiots listening to him and partaking in this "movement" that encourages laziness.

I wouldn't trust him to teach anything, his critical thinking and logic application skills are at best non-existent.

Might have been a good idea for you to watch the video before commenting. It's not even that long of a video, it's only a couple of minutes. long.
I watched the video. It was a hit piece lol. I don't know what he means by laziness being a virtue, but if it's walking dogs and doing what gives you joy instead of swinging a hammer and destroying your body, or whatever else drains your soul for 40 hours a week, ok.

LOL I wish I could say the same, but there are a handful of people on my ignore list. (Mostly obnoxious console warriors and the like).

But you... You're a cool cat.

And I disagree with multiple elements of your post. Not everything on FOX (or CNN, or MSNBC, etc) is political. There are plenty of social, economic, sports, human interest, and other topics covered by those networks. So I (am not surprised to) see that you subscribe to the "everything is political" mentality. Oh well, let's just agree to disagree. See you on the gaming side 😂👍🏽

I didn't say everything is political. I said discussing work habits in the context of our current climate, with changes in inflation, the stock market, and labor participation - is obviously political. Like, I can't even discuss it because every element is about policy.

Anyone that doesn’t follow the crowd is ostracized and ridiculed. Tell me something I don’t know.

He has good intentions but sometimes it’s best to keep things to yourself or only with those that share your views.

That guy looks exactly how I imagined a reddit mod.

Seen some of that antiwork content. Sounds like a lot of made up stories for karma and awards, like most of the reddit.
No doubt. Bottom tier people are always sketchy. And they wonder why they cant land a good job.
When company profits go down, cut backs, when company profits go up, shareholder bonuses.
Depends on the company. When profits go up, everyone at work gets higher bonuses.

The amazing thing is the dogwalker is going to be on welfare of some kind pocketing your tax dollars while dog walking for cash.
That is the problem. If people want to quit work and change careers to something less stressful, good! But don’t ask for a handout from those that don’t. I’m not holding the bag for Doreen.

The only way for some to have a lot is for others to have little. Work smarter not harder, LMAO, put that shit on a bumper sticker bró.

Next life try being born in the middle of some sand mines in Africa and then go around telling people they need to work smarter.

Don’t you get it? Look at how wealth is distributed, this isn’t smarts, it’s timing. It’s luck, chance, physics whatever. Cause and effect that started before you were born.

Know when you’re lucky, so that you have the clarity of mind to not look down on those less fortunate, to not fall into the trap of thinking you are smarter just because you make more money. That just means you make more money, you can still be a dumb fuck driving a Maserati.

The concept or value and worth is completely twisted these days, that’s what I’m saying.

It would be a better society if working 10 to 12 hours wasn’t so common and accepted, and your worth as a person wasn’t tied to your bank account.

A fireman goes out there and saves people from burning houses, yet how do we value him?

This isn’t to say not working is the answer. But a lot of people go around like they are going to live forever, so let’s work those 10 to 12 hours a day and create that value for shareholders!
Here’s a great example of someone not worth arguing with.

Yea, I loled at this part. To teach philosophy, he would need at least 8 years of college to finally get his PhD. Despite what many uninformed people say, college is not easy and requires a lot of work and discipline. There are great expectations from you in academia if you possess a PhD. Many professors teach on top of conducting research and publishing thier work. The amount of writing required for philosophy would make me sick.
Actually he’d only need to prove his philosophy correct. Then others would follow. Easier said than done but possibly.

It’s never worth arguing anything on a message board, you think you’re here changing people’s minds?

Let me guess, you think you’re special.

No, expansion and more hiring.

I don’t think you really know much about business

Right, you just increase the number of underpaid workers to feed the beast.

You do your thing, I’m sure you’re another incredibly successful self made business man, the majority around here I see.

Big difference between someone born in dead broke Africa with rebel warlords roaming around vs. a guy sitting in a front of a computer in USA at age 30 whose had opportunity to do better than dog walking for 20 hours a week, and amazingly wants to do even less.

It's not even hard IMO to get a half decent job. It's not like western rich countries you are either 0.01% doctors, lawyers and Elon Musks and 99.99% fry cooks. The average wage in Canada and US is similar at around $52k/year ($26/hr). For every fry guy making $12/hr, there's someone making a lot more to balance it out.

Put it this way. If my broke, zero English immigrant parents whose parents were all killeda decade earlier and can somehow arrive in like 1958 and thrive, I dont see how anyone born in a western country, know the language, know the city, know people, have some money (more than my parents had), and have at least some family structure to begin, and still fucking fail. Totally embarrassing.

My parents were broke for a long time and didnt even get their first car around 1975 (it was small and shit too since I saw pics) until they were about 36 years old. Have fun taking the bus for the first 17 years in Ottawa winter.

Most of us are probably moderately successful cogs in the machine, actually. Because we worked within the system and the system worked for us. I work healthcare and make a moderately good living. My wife is part time in the same industry and we have enough money to own a home, by new cars, save for retirement, and raise our children. Neither of us even works 40 hours a week. And neither of us did anything exceptional. The opportunities we took advantage of are available to anyone with mild intelligence.

You want to talk about mines in Africa but that is the nature of existence for all things. Sometimes you’re the baby turtle who gets cut down crawling to the ocean. Sometimes you’re the zebra killed by lions before you can learn to run. And sometimes you’re the child born into destitution in Africa. That’s nature.

Human prosperity has only recently offered any real alternative to that for anyone. And we have expanded that prosperity to more people in recent history than in any other time. And the people we are talking about aren’t being asked to work the fucking mines. They’re being asked to moderately contribute to societies that provide a historically unimaginable standard of living so that they too can enjoy that standard. Yet they can’t even bring themselves to do that. Because they are pathetic people. Entitled and useless. Carried on the underbelly of a society that provides them the ability exist in relative comfort while asking nothing of them. And still they whine.

This is painfully bad. I can't believe we've come to this point where people like that are being enabled more. That's not how this country was built.

And yes, politics aside, the country was built on a lot of hard work without wokeness or lazy tendencies. Could do without thenracism and hate but man, seeing this is worrying.

Yeah, built by mostly non-college educated people that could work 40 hours a week and support a stay at home wife, family, house purchase, and retirement with pension. None of them ate avocado toast though, like the lazy losers around today. That must be it.

What happened to a lot of these leaches is that their parents/grandparents worked hard and saved money growing the family tree since the Leave it to Beaver days. There is no doubt a lot of Gaffer's parents or grandparents who are old pinched pennies and to this day (like mine) still cheap fucks even though they did well.

Their goal in life was to set the seeds for a successful family tree by stockpiling money and having a house paid off and pass it all to their kids so they dont have to start from scratch. And if the kids already have a house, then just share the proceeds.

Sounds noble. But what happened is a lot of these lazy fucks sit in their parent's basement taking advantage and sitting around doing nothing because their parents are easy and will comp them whatever they want instead of kicking them out of the house at some point. At some point, parents die and that leach will score an inheritance while not needing to do anything, especially if the parents are nice and let them stay at home forever.

The point of boomers and immigrants was saving so their kids could have a good start and succeed beyond them. Not to save so the kids could sit around in front of a PC all day on social media and milk their parents success.

And this is exactly why this thread should be locked. Because the whole point of this hit piece was to tickle the nuts of people with certain views, so they can make broad generalizations about a whole generation of people without any data or reference to objective numbers. And then pointing out any of that data is political, so it's off limits. That is literally the entire point of the thread, and it was obvious from the headline alone. We can't reference objective increases in the cost of rent, school, health care, the decimation of manufacturing and non-college jobs, or the complete divergence of profit increase to wage increase since the 1970s. We just get to listen to endless lectures about how everyone is lazy.
