Any Gun Club fans here?

I got to meet Kid Congo Powers (and Flesh Eaters frontman Chris D., who produced Fire of Love and did vocals on a one-off Gun Club reunion a couple years back) a couple days ago, so I've been on a big Gun Club kick today.

Fire of Love is honestly one of my favorite albums ever, a twisted punk-blues that a thousand Jack Whites could never hope to replicate - there ain't a White Stripes song that even comes close to the demented fury of Sex Beat or She's Like Heroin To Me.

So yeah, if you're in this thread and don't know about The Gun Club, go get Fire of Love and Larger Than Live, a way-posthumous archival live album from the band's peak. Do it now, bastards.

I would just like to point out that you guys are douchebags for being totally down for anything related to Muse, but god forbid we talk about a band that broke up because of the lead singer's death a mere 13 years ago.

Yeah, Fire of Love is fantastic, but you're a straight-up retard if you think GAF will like them.

As you said, most people here like Muse.

No, I know GAF won't give a damn - just wanted to see if there are any other fans here at all.

To be honest, it kinda sucks liking music no one else your age could give a good goddamn about.

I'd consider myself a middle-ing punk fan, and I have no idea who you're talking about.

I'll be honest here. I don't really know the band, I just came in this thread expecting people to be arguing about gun control.

Don't ever look for good taste in music on a videogame forum. (And likewise, don't look for good taste in videogames on a music forum!)

This is a great point. Although it sure is weird being able to talk about music with 40-year-olds and, hell, my grandparents easier than with kids my age, you know? Some of the best music-related conversation I've had has been at old LA punker concerts, like X or The Cramps, or underground country/blues dudes at dive bars or whatever. But that's probably less me being a luddite and more modern music being a big ol' sack of bullshit.

Fire of Love is a great album, but that is the only album of theirs I have listened to.

Also, I've found that a lot of people on game forums have pretty good taste in music. The people that like crap like Muse outnumber them, but usually the people with better taste in music are more likely to actually discuss it.

even if you only have a passing interest in gun club it's worth tracking down the box set. so much good material from the gun club years and later.

it's also weird you point out the white stripes in your op, i mean they don't sound anything a like and aren't trying to do anything close to the same sound. you'd want to talk about the mekons or something. for the record i think geraldine fibbers and rank and file are the best cow punk bands.

I say that because Jack White has always cited it as a huge influence. And they've done a couple Gun Club covers live.

It being Fire of Love.

he was also influnced by like jimmy webb and dolly parton, they are still not the same sound/genre as what the stripes are doing.

I dunno man, I can hear a lot of similarities, that fucked-up semi-blues, especially in the early Stripes albums. Not so much any more, but early on, the influence does show.
