Installed my ambi safety/decocker! Also picked up a light. USP's have a weird proprietary rail and this is the only light that fits without an adapter. Kind of huge and makes the gun front heavy. Not sure if I really like it. Have to go to the range and shoot with it a bit.

Nice work on the lever. You can get an adapter to allow normal rail accessories to fit: http://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/GGG-USP-Full-Size-Pistol-Flashlight-Adapter-265p1107.htm

I've been fancying a home defense shotgun for my first gun. I've been looking at either a Remington 870 Express Tactical or their 887 NitroMag Tactical. Also some version of a Mossberg 590 or 500. Any advice or recommendations?

I love my 870 tactical w/ choate pistol grip. I personally think the action feels so much more solid than a Mossberg.

Yeah I think I'm mostly leaning towards this. I held one a couple weekends ago and it felt very solid. I held my friends Mossberg too which felt almost equally nice to hold. I haven't fired either of them though.

Any of those are good choices. I would go with the cheapest one if you don't plan on shooting it much. That would probably be the Mossberg 500, they can usually be bought for under $300. Remington or Mossberg, either way you can't go wrong.

If you do plan on shooting it quite often, don't get a pistol grip. They will wear you out real quick at the range.

Haha.. to be honest, firing them is very low on the list of things you need to do with these particular guns. They are both a perfected, known quantity and operate damn near identically.

Build quality, feel, aesthetics, available accessories, & price should be your concern.

You really can't go wrong with either, but for my dollar the Remington came out on top (along with a few more dollars to Midway for tacti-cool stuff.)

I just got a Mossberg 500 cruiser that I posted on the previous page. Holds 8 shells and the pistol grip is always nice to compactness. You can get a folding stock for most pistol grips if you want versatility and to let you use them for more recreational uses.

I'll vouch for this... and don't even think of trying to shoot trap with that 18.5" barrel. You have to shoot in the first few milliseconds before it gets out of range. Certainly not the choice to reach out and touch something.

I thought about getting an adapter rail, but not being sure if I really wanted a light on it I just bought that one used off eBay for cheap.

I think I will get some tritium night sights next.

I recently got a Glock 34 (9mm with >5" barrel) for target shooting. Has been good fun. I need to practice more with it. I get good, consistent groupings but not quite the accuracy I should have. First gun I've personally owned, but so so many I've shot growing up.

Plinker and home defense. Probably a 9mm or a .40 caliber. Cheaper ammo would help me shoot it more often.

edit: semi auto

Springfield XD, Smith & Wesson M&P series, Glock or Sig Sauer. I would go with a 9mm though, to keep the ammo a bit cheaper and keep you at the range more often. If possible, go to a range and rent different models from the different manufacturers and see what you like.

Personally, I like the Springfield XD series (have a tactical .45 and a sub-compact 9mm). I am saving up for a Sig Sauer P226 though, it's next on the pistol list.

I've heard good things about Sigs. Is the P226 the model to get or are the other models like the P229 viable?

P226 is just the classic 9mm Sig. 229 is a smaller, more compact model than the 226. Check out this .pdf chart that compares all the different models and their features. http://www.sigsauer.com/upFiles/Specifications-Comparison.pdf

Take a look and see what interests you, then go down to a range and try to fire some rounds with what you choose. I don't think you can go wrong with any Sig.

I forgot about this thread, so I'm glad it's still being commented on. Here is my gun, a Springfield XD Tactical 9mm. Really love the 5" barrel; gives it a heavier, but not TOO heavy feeling:

It's also really easy to field strip and clean. Cleaning it takes about a half hour at most, and they don't even really need to be cleaned much, but I do it every time I shoot as a safety precaution.

I really just have this for plinking; it's a fun thing to do every once in awhile.

All of those are great suggestions and I'm also partial to the Springfield XD. I'd say go and hold some guns and see what fits your hand and feels comfortable. The Sig's have always been too bulky for me, but it might be different for you.

I've been wanting to get a single action army revolver for the longest time now. Planning on getting an uberti made replica since an actual colt made one is a little too expensive for me.

Just got this bad boy in, any suggestions on scopes or other modifications? I am leaning to a trijicon x4 acog but the price seems steep for what you get.

It really depends on what you are going to shoot at, you can't go wrong with an Acog but if you are doing some long range shooting, you may want to look into getting a regular scope (I really like Nightforce but they are expensive).

Also instead of an Acog you may want to look at Trijicon's hunting scopes, they aren't too bad and have been progressively working on them to make them better over the years.

*Disclaimer: knows people that work for Trijicon

I ended up ordering a x4 Trijicon acog due to the fact I have various other 500+ yard rifles with scopes currently. I also picked up an Eotech HWS and Holy Shit is it awesome, currently have it on my FAL but might move it to the Benelli m4 when it comes in.

I picked up these two today, was originally going to just go with the blacked out model but damn does that desert camo look great in person. Collapsable stock is ordered for the black model as well as two tube extensions.

So I pulled the trigger on A TA11308, my question is that if I mount it on my EBR is there any chance at any sort of eye relief? Do I need to rail over the receiver?

Just bought a 1,000 dollar acog and I didn't research the simplest shit FML

I've got the XD 40S&W, absolutely love it.

What is the general consensus on the FN 17s? I have wanted one since it's prototype unveiling but the seemingly manipulated price and the fact that I have never handled one is keeping me from pulling the trigger.

One of my gun club buddies bought one a few months ago. Albeit, its the NY compliant version, but damn its a really nice gun. Expensive as fuck though. I honestly wouldn't buy one right now because of the price. I'll stick with my Springfield M1A for now. ;)

Love my m1a but the damn thing weighs close to 17 pounds fully loaded.

Anyone know much about shotguns? I'm looking at a Mossberg 500 tactical , but they are so dang cheap you wonder how good they are. A Remington 870 is a more expensive option, would like to spend less than like $600.

Indeed, mines a beast, and its the one with the long barrel (NY compliant grrrr) and with a 20 round pre-ban mag oof, its heavy as hell. But I love the styling and feel of it. It feels rugged as fuck. :D

If you want to save money and get an accurate lightweight rifle, just build an AR(unless you have one already haha). Also depending where you live you'll have to look into legality of what you can build.

Yeah, I have to many AR's as it is. I was looking for another .308 rifle.

I think I'm gonna get a ruger 10/22 and get a suppressor for it if I can.

Because I need to reap silent death on squirrels and other vermin.

Also gonna go hog hunting in July. W00t.

Need a pistol recommendation because I dunno jack about pistols (I'm a rifle guy). I was looking for home defense as a top priority, and maybe if it doesn't cost too much to shoot, since I wouldn't mind taking it to the range once and a while. Budget around $600.

I was thinking the SW 686, but I dunno if my small wife could handle it. I have never shot one before. But it looks pretty cool and I like the look of revolvers. Also I heard they are less prone to jams than semis.

I recommend a Glock 19. Light, relatively small with a nice trigger pull. None of the female agents in my office had a problem with it that I recall. Minimal jamming in my experience.

I would recommend the pistol I picked up the Berretta Storm. The recoil is really light, and the backstrap is interchangable for smaller hands.

But you can't go wrong with a Glock.

If I had to arm a female family member, I would look into a Keltec 9mm.

Yeah, if you need a gun that goes bang every time, is simple to use, and easy to get work done on, a G19 would be about the simplest choice. I can't stand Glocks (lol snob!) but I can't deny that they work well, and are good value.

Well my wife will like the Glock 19 quite a bit, as she has actually shot one of those before and liked it. Oh well, I'll get a revolver one of these days. :)

Any good online sites for buying one or should I wait for a gun show? My dad knows a local dealer that I could get it shipped to.

You do know that you can get an AR in .308 right? Look up DPMS or RockRiver arms. You can build a .308 AR that weighs less than 10 lbs. The M1A is nice, but it's more suited to long distance prone shooting when you get above 12 lbs, unless you're a lumberjack.

haven't bought a gun, but I did inherit an old M1911 pistol, a Walther P38, and a really old Winchester .22 rifle.
