Any idea how the Alone in the Dark 2024 reboot did, sales wise?

The Steam charts were abysmal, with a top-player count of 1,6K. However, I bought this game yesterday on a sale on GGDeals (it's currently at 15 bucks in some stores), and I was pleasantly surprised. Easily the best Alone in the Dark game I've played and I'm only a couple of hours in. The atmosphere is very well done, and they have managed to mix the Lovecraft/Cthulhu/LA Noir aesthetic 100%. Gameplay is good, melee and gunfighting seems to be pretty decent. Playing this side by side with Silent Hill 2 is not advisable due to the amazing job Bloober has done with the visuals (going to AitD feels a little unfair, despite the game itself being quite a visual treat).

Do we have any sales numbers? I'd love this game to get a sequel.

Question how are the characters especially the Female character you can play as? Does she have any annoying qualities that female characters in western developed games tend to have? If there's not any I'll get this off a sale

In the little time I saw her so far (I picked the male character - you get to choose, just like you did in the original), she seemed calm and collective, but definitely not a ramboesque heroine, considering she hires a male detective/fighter to make sure she and her uncle will be alright.

She has a very good connection to the main story, is very calm and level-headed. I completed main campaign as her and quite enjoyed her portrayal. And nah, she didn't had any western modern games bullshit whatsoever

the game starts with her stating she brought Carnby because she wouldn't feel safe alone, she's interesting with strength weakness, fears, faults, you know a character, both her and carnby both deal with inner demons and go through actual character arcs, the player you don't play as is intelligently handling the investigation as well,
As far as npcs, pretty good line up, nobody is annoying or filled with hamfisted messaging
I'd say get it

The sales were so good that Lars Wingefors panicked and shut down the studio

(it bombed and IP is dead)

And yes the game was pretty good, but I expected it to be even better. 7/10 for me.

Btw I really recommend playing Emily. I chose Carnby and when I watched Emily playthrough on youtube, it was clear that she should be played first.

The game is pretty good. I need to get back to it.

You need to rely on melee combat. Firing a gun is too slow for the monsters. Firing a gun in this game is actually like firing a gun in real life. They brace themselves.

It’s was a very good game, it was such a shame it did so poorly and killed the studio. I put the blame on its pricing, it was clearly an AA game and they were selling it at AAA pricing. I have an excess of disposable income and buy a shit ton of games, and it even put me off until it was on a decent sale a few months ago, so I can understand why it failed. Plus poor marketing.

I don’t recall anything, I played as the guy tho, and you barely interact with the other character. It’s not a game where you swap characters chapter to chapter, it’s either or for the entire game, with some slight variations to the narrative depending on which you chose, which is mostly only particularly apparent in the closing chapters from what I read.

I wonder if it was someone in the studio or Embracer who thought, I've got an idea, let's get Hollywood stars to play the characters and bump up the budget.
Not just a Hollywood star, but a guy who openly advocated for violence against his political enemies.
Great choice.

You can buy it here for Steam for just 15 bucks.

Awesome, thanks for this! I'd been waiting for a deep sale to get it, but I bought it through that link just now.

I think we just doubled their total sales from this thread alone.

Nice. Never bought from here before. Are they reliable?
GGDeals is a website which shows every sale happening at the moment through all major 'key seller' sites. You can filter the search to only show you the 100% reliable key seller websites. I've made my purchases this way, bought about 30-40 games from those websites and I haven't had a single fraud happen.

The particular websites below have proven to be 100% safe, in my case.

You can also synchronize your wishlist through GGDeals, and see your wishlist THROUGH GGDeals, which shows you the BEST sales happening RIGHT NOW on your wishlist on Steam AND GoG.

So for example, I see that if I go to Green Man's Gaming, I can buy Robocop from there for only 15 bucks, while on the Steam Store, it's FIFTY.

I'm not sure what the pricing was where you are from or if you're referring to Digital Prices or whatever.
But games in the UK are £69.99 and Alone in the Dark cost me £40

That's a budget release, so for here that was not the reason.
I think the demo did more damage then good

It was digital. It was quite a while until the sales showed up. Haha amusingly it was the demo that got me over the line 🤣
