I bought Alone in the Dark several months ago and ended up severely disappointed. The game plays very stiff, especially combat & "stealth". There are also still plenty of small bugs and technical issues, like the game stopping you from opening a door because it's loading the next area or a collectible missing from where it's supposed to be.

The overall story, including the final boss, was also pretty mediocre. The only real positive were the additional locations, offering a much needed break from exploring the main mansion. I had a much better playing something like The Chant, even though that game had an even smaller budget. At least it had some cool ideas regarding the world and enemies and I wasn't annoyed with the gameplay.

They are giving NBA2K every year at least since the beginning of this gen
2K knows that if you start playing, you are going to spend minimum $50 on MTX anyways, and by now they pretty much got all the audience that was going to pay for the game itself.

Alone in the Dark isn't it totally trash... just the final part and the stupid dimensional areas travel or whatever the fuck they are. A pity because if it wasn't for those, would be a great title. If the game setting was just the Asylum, would have been so better.

I beat it today in just over eight hours. You weren't wrong about the final boss and story. As annoyed as I was about the amount of locked doors, I about lost my shit when the game relocks doors you previously unlocked or kicks down ladders in order to funnel the player down the narrative path. It really feels like the lead level designer quit half way through development and someone else stepped in to take over the role. And as much as I praised the fully voiced journals, there are just too goddamned many of them. I wouldn't be surprised if listening to them wasn't 25% of my playtime. I'm pretty sure the game respawns ammo over time, but there are certainly locations you aren't going to revisit so I'm not sure why they had so many empty boxes, drawers, etc. I never could put a finger on what was driving me forward in this game and I'm still unable to give a good reason why. At least I didn't buy this game and it's mercifully short.

Finished the first two episodes as Emily in Alone in the Dark. Boy does this game love locked doors and chests, you probably have a dozen of them presented to you from the jump. Combat and enemy design are kind of lackluster and the game isn't the least bit scary, especially since monsters only show up in certain scenarios in the game which reminds me of that Silent Hill Remake on the Wii. I'm impressed that all the notes and journals are voiced, even if the performances are uneven. There is something compelling about it, I just can't put my finger on it.
This is something I really appreciated, and since then I'm always disappointed when notes and journals are not voiced in games now.
