Any Joytech AV Control 240 Impressions ?

ooh, are they out now? I was keeping an eye on them.

Have a look at the Xbox themed one from Joytech. I think that has more inputs, and works as a 5port ethernet switch and optical switch.

still, the originals are supposed to be very good.

We had no problems passing a full HD signal.

Nor should you - the box doesn't "know" wtf kind of signal is passing through. It certainly can't change HD to SD. In fact, you can pass an HD signal through an ancient switcher using white red and yellow connectors for RGB. It's jut a dumb analog signal.

Well I just picked up the AV selector 240c at best buy's. There is teeny tiny hint of extra noise when passing my Xbox 360 through it; it's so tiny that it didn't bother me.. however, when I put in any optical cables the noise level goes up. I can't really tell from 7-8 feet but any videophile will probably cringe. Other than that, it's quite nice really. But for me, I'm returning it and buying the Audio Authority thingy.

I brought mine from Best Buy and It was faulty. I took It back and got a refund. The unit was hooked up to my Tv's 1080i input, and the XBOX360 and progressive scan dvd where used as sources. The joytech suffered from severe singnal dropouts. During use with the 360, PRG3 and PDZ where playable and the dropouts would only occur during some cut scenes and loading screens. NBA2k6 was totaly unplayable. Cutscenes, loading screens and menu screens where fine, as soon as actual gameplay started the screen would go black until a replay or menu screen came on. I went to there website and e-mailed there tech support for help with this issue, but they never got back to me. Best Buy didn't have any more so I got my moneyback. It's a shame because on paper and asthetically, It's a nice unit with great features. There are videophile component switchers that get the job done, but are hundereds of dollars more. I ended up going with the farmer component switcher from play asia which Is 90.00 less than the joytech. The farmer box Isn't powered doesn't have a remote and can only use 3 sources, but for 15.00 It works flawlessly.

ah that sucks. After playing with the 240c a little more, I decided to keep it. I got it for 86 dollars after tax and 10 dollar off coupon. 6 Component/composite/svideo inputs; 4 of those have optical/toslink inputs as well.. :D

This looks like it has the possibility to be a good, reasonably priced optical switch, but why did they laze out and only put four optical inputs on the back instead of the six that should've been there? And why no front optical port? Looks like I'll have to stick with my discrete optical selector for now. Oh, and the ethernet ports on it are physically switched, it's not a true network switch or hub. When are they going to make a blasted TV with a satisfactory amount of inputs so we can stop dealing with this switch crap...

I decided since i owned the original joytech av selector box (the one with scart inputs) that i'd get the updated HD model that's got component outputs on it.

hooked up my dvd player, xbox to it the picture was decent enough didn't seem to be any interference as soon as i plugged in the optical input though, you get fuzz on the screen. I took out the optical input and then the pictures fine?

've got a logitech Z-5500 Digital surround system, on the older joytech as i said when i was running my dvd player, xbox and stb through scart all with optical i never had one problem.

I don't think it's related to the tv , maybe it is but it seems like the surround is somehow interfering with the signal. I was using decent quality component cables as well btw.

Really annoyed about it since i returned it and got a replacement one and the same thing happened.

Now i need to find another brand one or wait for the xbox 360 to be released and give that a go.

Yeah, it seems to be a common problem with the switch.
