Avowed first impressions 'really long post': I'm having a blast.

I posted a thread awhile ago saying i'd make a first impressions thread once i got some time in the game and explored it enough to give a first impressions thread. So i'm making one right now and i'll do a review thread once i'm done with the game. So far i'm loving it and it's been worth every cent of the 50 I spent on it. I'm in area 1 right now about done with it for reference.

Positives: Starting with the positives cause i got alot of them.

1: My biggest positive about this game is that your actions have consequences in insanely cool ways that effect dialogue and character interactions with you. I'm going to give three examples of this down below.

First off in the prologue you meet a woman in a jail cell and you can choose to leave her to die while taking her boat or open the cell and escape with her. I chose to save her and I got alot of cool dialogue as she was escaping with me that fleshed her character out, and it caused a cool interaction with her later once you hit dawnshore.

You meet her again in a sidequest as your exploring dawnshore and she remembers you and how you saved your life, and in return for doing so she steps in and backs u up by letting you off scott free in terms of payment for smuggling 2 npc's out of town on her boat. If you never saved her then you either have to fight this group or you have to pay them 1,000 gold which is alot of money. That was really damn cool and I appreciated that you meet her again.

There's a bathhouse worker who is smuggling stuff for her girls and you can choose to turn her in or let it go. I chose to let it go and then I told the guy I report to help her with money in secret. If you go back to the bathouse and see her after doing so she mentions the money she received from that guy and thanks you for it. Again awesome piece of world building.

You meet a woman in a main quest who is hiding the man who attempts to take your life earlier in the game. If you spare her life instead of killing her then she can become a spy that works under you and you get dialogue referencing this fact in the same quest line. She also helps you out later in the game as your own spy. This was fucking cool and I got a smirk out of it cause it made me feel like an imperial badass who's actions got people on my side.

Overall the sidequest and main story quests all have several different outcomes that affect npc's and there reactions to u. I love it a ton and it gets you invested in the world and characters as well as how you build your character. Just badass writing here and really quality stuff going on here.

2: Combat is really fun. I'm a mage build right now and you get alot of cool abilities. Fireballs, blizzards, lighting etc and it makes combat pretty damn cool. You can also become a mage/warrior build or a mage/hunter build and spec into both classes and it's overall alot of fun.

3: Companions are talkative and explain the world and talk about lore with you as well as give their opinions for quests and side quests. They tell you what they're feeling, what decision they'd make and express either hatred or satisfaction based off the choice your main character makes in the game with decision making. It adds to the world building when your companions talk alot and express their opinions in terms of quests and sidequests and this is again something I love.

4: Graphics and artstyle are great and it's a beautiful game to look at visually. Really colorful environments that pop on a 4k tv, and really beautiful landscaping going on as you walk across the world. I haven't had any performance issues so far and everything has been as smooth as butter. No complaints at all with anything visually in this game.

I really am enjoying this game so far and I really don't have alot of negatives if any at this current juncture. The only nitpick I could say is that the warrior and archer class could've used more active abilities instead of passive ones but again this is a nitpick. Overall i'm loving every moment of this game, and loving the choice and consequence of every decision you make and how it actually affects the world.

Btw this accidentally posted as I was looking it over so I apologize. I'm fixing it and didn't mean to post it. My connection is bad with a storm near me and it lagged which is how it posted. I'm editing as I go 'Facepalm' and adding to it.

Yeah, i've started it some weeks ago when the anniversary update happened, will have to continue it as i really liked it.

It gets better and better for me personally. Writing has gotten stronger, and the world has shifted based off my actions. Every second i'm spending with the game i'm enjoying myself personally.

I'm planning to start this for a long time but decided to play Atomfall before it. What can I expect from Awoved?

Only looked at screenshots until now, and that gave me the impression of Skyrim with the first person mode. Appreciated if the answers stay spoiler-free for me (y)

I'm having a similar experience with Tears of the Kingdom right now, its so great when NPCs reference things you did when you saw them elsewhere. Or how the rain changes basically every bit of dialogue in the whole game, its kinda mind bending how much dialogue most people will never read, in terms of scope of reactions I'd say its 2nd only to Hitman in that regard.

Its easy to take for granted this kind of thing in modern games, it goes a long way to improving immersion in a simple way (text), since I presume this game does it with actual audio is even more impressive.

It's a solid game that I enjoyed but I feel like it would have gotten less hate at launch if it had launched at the $50 price point it became on PS5. It really should have been a $50 AA launch title, not Microsoft's first $70 MSRP game. I think that price shift drove a lot of negative sentiment, same way The Outer Worlds 2 got absolutely blasted when Microsoft tried making it their first $80 MSRP game.

So, "your actions have consequences in insanely cool ways" is exactly the opposite as what heard before... Ot is it just this one interaction at the start? And is the game very woke or not? Call me a bully all you want, but I will really not be able to enjoy a game when I get shoved pronouns, transgender and so in my face every two minutes in a medieval fantasy setting.

Please be honest.

From the first trailer, this was a game I was super excited for, but when I saw the game in the end, that excitement had melted away and I had sold my series x by that time anyway.

Now that it's out on ps5 (pro) I'm considering to buy it in the future, but I just can't pull the trigger due to the middling reviews.

Up to a certain point, I really liked the developer. Tyranny for example is a game I loved.

Also, Crimson Desert soon. I have only so much time.

So i'll respond to both of you in one post since your both interested in the game. I'll try staying spoiler free with what i describe and only tell you a scenario but not the outcome of it aka not spoiling.

So there's a scenario in this game where you meet an assassin type of character and you get to confront him. There's several different options you get to choose in terms of what you decide to do when you confront him 'that's all i'm saying cause the rest is spoilers'. I'll just say that whatever choice you make actually affects dialogue in terms of the main quest AND it has impact down the road depending on how you handled that particular situation.

There's another scenario in a side quest where this guy is looking for a particular material and hires you to go looking for it essentially. There's about 3 different outcomes if not more that you can choose to do with this side quest and it affects dialogue once again the game whether certain people live or die 'you can choose to kill people in alot of side quests'.

There's like a good, and evil in terms of what dialog options you pick and what you decide to do in certain particular situations. And particular people in town might attack you if you went one way in a quests dialog and not the way they wanted you too.

Also in terms of woke content I really don't see it 'slight spoiler'. For example the bathouse quest involves abortion medicine 'i believe it was about that' and you can choose to turn her in or let it go meaning you can pick both sides of the argument and aren't pigeonholed into choosing one side. I really haven't seen alot of woke stuff on my playthrough personally so far besides maybe a woman expressing love for another woman at one point.

I enjoyed it, it can be shallow at times but I enjoyed the gear upgrade system. Just checked and realised I put nearly 58 hours into it. Not an all timer but another gamepass spesh 🟢💪

It's actually really good... The world and exploration is pretty top notch, tons of combat styles with alot more gear than you'd think.

I loved OW1 and 2, and this has all the Obsidian feels... Just isn't as bad as it was supposed to be

Awesome, actual consequences for my actions are good, but how is the gameplay? Would you say its comparable to anything out there just so I know what I'm getting myself into.

It honestly to me feels like it could be an elder Scrolls type game with its combat, it's pretty satisfying all around and has many variations.. Can run dual pistols, sword pistol, sword wand, wand tome, bows, daggers, 2h weapons etc.... Many styles of play

I'm doing this on mobile with like 0 service lolll.
Amdire the dedication lol

I agree their was a hate campaign and I don't understand why after playing it. It's a really solid game. And i'm glad your both enjoying it!
I'm close to forming a conclusion. Need more datapoints. But the current theory is that some people just don't like video games but like to rile up people who do.

Avowed is a good game. It's not ground breaking, but few games are. Especially in the AAA space.
