Watching it again. He is such a politician.

"Can we win the war on terror?"

"I don't think we can win it, but we can make it so those who use terror as a tool are deemed less acceptable in certain parts of the world."

WTF. I mean, I'm not a Bush hater like a lot of people, but... WTF.

That actually seems like one of the most normal and understandable answers I've ever heard him give.

It seems like a reasonable thing to say, but imo it kind of contradicts his statements in the past. To me it kind of seems like he's conceding.

I dont see what the problem is. He has always given this answer, and anyone with some sense would.

There is no possible way to prevent this, nor stop it. What you can do is do your best to kill any aid from countries, and as bad as it sounds, kill them before they kill you.

And how better to work to undermine the logic behind terrorism, than to work to continually justify your nations individual right to use unilateral pre-emptive millitary action against any other nation opposed to your values.

Bingo!

Don't give me any bullshit that he's said this from day one. How many clips do we have of him saying, "WE WILL WIN THIS WAR ON TERROR!" or similar crap. Like, FIVE THOUSAND?

Hmm I don't know if I would go that far... though I'm too lazy to look I'm almost sure he's claimed that we could win the war against terror.... but maybe what he said was we were winning the war again terror...

As for Ham's comment... if we get his ass out of there come this election that won't be something we'll have to worry about... hopefully.

EDIT: Guess I'm not that lazy...

"Today we pay tribute to the victims, we remember the suffering of their families and we reaffirm our commitment to win the war on terror," Bush said at a press conference on Wednesday with Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri."

http://www.post-gazette.com/headlines/20020130bushtextnat7p7.asp

"Our first priority must always be the security of our nation, and that will be reflected in the budget I send to Congress. My budget supports three great goals for America: We will win this war, we will protect our homeland, and we will revive our economy."

http://www.gopusa.com/news/2003/june/0624_biotech.shtml
"President Bush told biotechnology leaders Monday that their work will "help us to win the war on terror, will help us fight hunger around the world and will help us to save countless lives with new medicines."

Another bullshit reply was Matt was trying to egg him on about Iraq, and Bush quickly says that going after the Taliban was unpopular.

Matt was like, "What the fuck. Uh, no."

And the Bush says something to the extent of, "Well, it was unpopular in PAKISTAN. But I made the right choice there, even if it was unpopular, just like Iraq! I am so smart!"

How about Chenery on Good Morning America? Did anyone catch that atrocity? I swear, I defy anyone to find me a picture of him with a genuine smile on his face. It's either a smirk or a scowl with him. The man is the Antichrist.

:lol

He speaks the truth. Which is scary. Terrorism cannot be defeated absolutely.

And true, the media would normally tear apart any comment like that. But that just shows how dumb the media can be.

Minotauro your avatar made me realize how much I miss those Ari Fleischer press briefings... :(

So the media wouldn't hammer Kerry if he said we would win the war or terror?

The Media will hammer Kerry no matter what, since they feel obliged to overcompensate for their alleged 'liberal bias'.

Rock on, I've been saying that for a while. :)

If Kerry had said the same thing the media would have ripped him to shreds by now.
At least Cheney. Something like "John Kerry says we can't win the war on terror. I'll tell you this, we've never won a war by not winning it!"

OH MY GOD, BUSH FLIP FLOPPED

We're not talking about flip flopping on state authority or Vietnam medals or other such bullshit. We're fucking talking about flip flopping about this so-called war on terrorism that has spent billions and sent us to Iraq. That's a pretty big flip flop.

Flip.... Flop....

http://abcnews.go.com/wire/Politics/ap20040831_691.html

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Aug. 31, 2004 — President Bush will tell the nation's largest veterans' group Tuesday that "we will win" the war on terror, seeking to quell controversy and Democratic criticism of his remark aired a day earlier that victory in the anti-terror battle may not be possible, his spokesman said.....
