PREFACE: For those that don't know or remember Heroes of Ruin is a dungeon crawling action RPG being made for the 3ds. It's being developed by N-Space, and Square-Enix has the publishing rights.

So yeah is anyone else extremely interested in this game, but also extremely worried? It seems like the hype for this game is virtually non existent. Plus it hasn't seemed to really be getting a lot of press coverage either. Considering the game is slated for a Spring 2012 release date you'd think they'd be ramping up some news and info about this one.

I mean the general idea of a co-op dungeon crawler for the 3ds sounds appealing. It gets even more appealing when you hear it's 4 player online drop in drop out co-op. Yet then you hear it's N-Space developing who has been spotty over the years. Plus the virtual non existent publicity makes you wonder about the current state of the game.

I want this to be good. I really do. The 3ds could use a good RPG for the system as well as another good online game and a co-op one at that. This game could really benefit from a demo on the eshop if it's truly coming out soon!

I'm really not digging the art style. Not a big fan of big american characters and sharp edges.

Also replace health bars with numbers and we'll talk

The character models remind me of golden sun ds.

Ehhhhhh.

I'll be cautiously optimistic.

But... Diablo 3.

My crave for dungeon crawler should be filled.

i expect it to be bad but i'm hoping it's good.

This is basically my current feelings. I expect it to be bad, but I want it to be a worthy title to pick up.

Wish we had a Crystal Chronicles game coming from SE instead. That or another PSO game this year. I'd like a good online co-op RPG on the 3ds if you can't already tell. :P

It'll be bad. What top down dungeon crawling action rpg not named Diablo, Torchlight, Titan Quest, or made by Snowblind isn't?

There have been other good ones. Crystal Chronicles on the Cube was really good as a game. It just had a the cluster of getting all of the crap together to play it. Also Soma Bringer on the DS was really good, but we got Nintendowned since they wouldn't localize it.

I thought the concept sounded really cool at first, but the couple minutes I played at NYCC made it feel like a really low-budget game. Granted I had no tutorial and was given no direction, but it didn't leave a good impression.

I actually just found out about this game a few days ago and am definitely interested. I like the loot whore genre in general and having some version of it on the 3ds would be great. That said, the graphics that I saw in the gameplay vid I watched didn't exactly blow me away. It did look pretty decent gameplay wise though. Will definitely wait to read some reviews + impressions on it.

This game has recently popped up on my radar. I've read a few previews and the one on nintendoworldreport.com sounded pretty promising.

Heroes of Ruin Preview

I thought this was pretty interesting that I found in the comments section of that article:

n-Space Senior Producer - Tim Schwalk (12/2011):
"It’s so easy to jump into an online game and not only play with your friends, but chat with them as well. In Heroes of Ruin, you can even play games with “strangers”, complete with voice chat if the parental settings on your console allow it. There are no difficult hoops to jump through or crazy restrictions. Nintendo did an outstanding job with the 3DS, and Heroes of Ruin is going to be THE game to get to show off the connectivity options of the system."

The game also supports connectivity to your profile on the game website:
"you will be able to link your game profile with your web account. This will give you a vast number of cool features that we can’t go into just yet, but one of those will be leaderboards. You’ll be able to see your position, your friends and the people at the top. Our query is on the criteria that would be used to rank you. You’ll be able to see who’s killed the most enemies, who’s spent the most gold, but there’s one category we’re not sure whether to include - time."

Yeah, I'm waiting for reviews. I would love to play it if it is good, I expect it to be middling at best, but would be glad to discover that it is great. We will see!

It's going to be hard to care about any other game like this after Diablo 3. Every other game like it should do like Torchlight 2 and watch out for themselves and release their game a good 3 or 4 months after it.

I'm sure Square-Enix will start the hype machine when it's closer to release.

Frame-rate looks VERY unstable, gameplay should be similar to Marvel Ultimate Alliance, so I'm not worried about that.

Heroes of Ruin was supposed to be my Monster Hunter fix, but what if MH3G is announced next week?

This game is probably going to bomb no matter how well it plays so if it does turn out alright I'll probably get it when I see it cheap.

Hugely inconsistent framerate may kill the game for me. Otherwise, unless it's seriously fucking bad (like, unbelievably so) I'll probably be able to enjoy it. A portable loot drop dungeon crawler is what I want, and if the mechanics are solid, the skills fun, and the loot plentiful I'm happy.

n-Space has done a great job on the Call of Duty DS games. So, here's hoping that the delays and uncertainty around Heroes of Ruin is tied to them polishing the game even more; rather than problems related to its quality.

I figured the game was just early and had yet to be optimized. At least I hope so cause the framerate was pretty meh. Plus I sure hope the textures are/were placeholders. LOL

My interest died the moment I watched a clip of it, and heard about it's random dungeons. All I can think of is Untold legends PSP.

My only problem from what I can tell is the complete lack of enemies. A dungeon crawling hack 'n slash is supposed to have dozens of enemies on screen at once. It feels a whole lot less satisfying when you're fighting 2-3 enemies every 100 feet.

Game looks cool, but as with others I'm hesitant to get excited just yet. Gaf impressions post release will be what I go by, unless there's a demo.

I hope its good though.

Its hard to tell, N-Space is not the most reliable of companies. they have made sleepers in the past (Call of Duty on DS) but a lot of employees come and go.

Ambitious title though, thats for sure.

Argh, why can't more DS & 3DS games do this?? Ever since Metroid Prime Hunters, I've yet to see a portable Nintendo game include voice chat. I thought it worked great in MPH, so I know it can work again.

Anyways, the drop in/drop out sounds really appealing to me. Not a fan of the visuals, but I really liked the in depth video I saw on the eShop. I'm a loot whore, so there's that too. Gonna keep an eye on this and hope for the best. I'd like it to be a good game, though at the same time, my wallet could use a rest.

Seems great on paper, but when you see the actual game the execution isn't up to par.

I have high hope for it, and plan on getting it. Although, a seemingly unofficial release date has me worried...
