Anyone else finding it hard to get into a game after Elden Ring?

You dudes need to learn how to space your gaming sessions out. Savior that shit.
You already know From Software is miles ahead of the rest of the modern gaming industry - why go hard and finish the game so quickly?
Youre not going to play anything remotely close until From Software's next game - entirely your own fault for rushing.
Yeah, but when a game's so freaking good it's hard to not neglect your job and put +10 hours a day on the game man.

Work from home, so cool yet so dangerous. :goog_relieved:

260 hours
One playthrough
All Endings
It has bee 6 weeks and I can't play any other game
Not even a Dark Souls
I'm bored, depressed I can't even engage in anything else
I'm open to opinions on how to tackle this
Mmmh how about some new game +? :lollipop_content:

I still play and enjoy other games(Scarlet Nexus!!!) after finishing Elden Ring, but something just keeps drawing me back to Elden Ring for some reason even when I'm playing other games. I think it's the insane amount of different builds and ways you can approach encounters in the game that's one of the things I keep experimenting with. Then again I poured a plethora of hours in each Souls game anyway, so maybe it's not much of a surprise.

I'm pretty much done with ER, haven't played in about a week, but all told I put in about 200 hours with two characters. And yeah, it's kinda depressing knowing it will probably be a long time before another game this surprising and special comes along.

After a dozen or so threads, I'm kinda getting the impression that OP likes Elden Ring quite a bit.

Anyway, I hopped onto The Great Ace Attorney and I'm having all the fun I hoped I'd get from Elden Ring, plus a much better narrative and none of the frustration.

Don't tell me the two games are completely unrelated. Item descriptions are an essential read in both!

I stopped playing Elden Ring after beating the 4th main boss because I realised I wasn't even enjoying it that much. ER has made me appreciate other games more tbh.

Wtf is wrong with you people?
Cracking Up Lol GIF

No. On the contrary. Almost every other game gives me a char not too slow, weak and tired.
Yup.

Games are meant to be fun, wish fulfilment, not some war of attrition.

Don't get me wrong, Elden Ring is a fantastic game, I'm not trying to suggest otherwise. But it's a fantastic game within a very specific niche, and that's great. They designed it how they wanted, modern conveniences be damned, and that is absolutely to be commended. But it absolutely has clear mis-steps in design and execution, you're a fool to suggest otherwise.

So if we could wind it in with the whole rhetoric that it's the second coming, and the severely misguided opinion that it should be the new design benchmark, that it barely has an flaws and that all other games are doing it wrong?

That'd be neat.

Ta.

Gaming has been like this since the original Demon's Souls for the most part and Ninja Gaiden on Xbox is what did it before DS.

Yep, Elden Ring ruined console games for me like Half Life Alyx ruined VR games.
I loved Elden Ring, I truly did but why would anyone limit themselves like this!? they are huge variety of games out there that can give variety of experiences, are you telling you cant enjoy any other type of game because Elden Ring!? That very weird to me.

Great game yes, but not the holy grail for me.

I do not have any problems to enjoy other great games as well.

I mean, it's not like it's a choice. I try to play other games and I'm just bored.

nah, im just kinda burned by from formula, go to a new area find enemies that kill you in one hit, grind level up breeze through, move to a new area rinse repeat.

I kinda understand. For me it happened after playing Dark Souls for the first time: any other RPG felt like shit because the combat wasn't as cool.

With ER I just took a two day rest from games, but that's something I like to do after any very long or very good game, because after such an awesome experience I find it hard to focus on something new, as I'm still thinking about the game I just beat.

As good as "Souls" combat is its not gonna give me same type of experience I get from Press Turn in SMT or building your team and using environments against your enemies in Triangle Strategy.

Doesn't matter how much I like "Souls" games if thats only type of game I play then I get burned out, this why I dont play other "Souls-like" game other than FROM games.

Yeah besides, to me at least any other kind of souls-like feels kinda cheap. Wish action games were more varied and we didn't have so many copies of the same formula.

Buggered about on GamePass for a couple of weeks not really getting into anything, but I'm now playing Rogue Legacy 2, and we'll into that.

I've had no problem playing Gran Turismo 7 after getting platinum on PS4 & PS5 (two separate play throughs) for Elden Ring.

Next up is Horizon II.

Actually the opposite, I'm having trouble starting it.
I walk around a bit, kill a few things and then turn it off.
I must be all souled out 😂

You can. Just need a PS5.

@OP: I had this after Bloodborne (didn't try Elden Ring yet). Don't worry. It will pass and you will enjoy other stuff again.

I need ps5 money too lol. And with a baby on the way not gonna happen for a while haha. Hoping for some decent sooner than later like the other souls games.

I usually need a small cooling off period after coming to the end of a game I've really enjoyed. Part of that is to fondly think of my best memories with the game finalizing my feelings on it (usually narrative games with stories that hit me just right) and to help 'reset' expectations of gameplay going into other games. Sounds corny and all but I also rarely go back to games as well. Have my moment with, cuddle, then kick it outta bed.

How does that work?
Taking a save file after the fire Giant to achieve all endings?

I'm struggling to get Into Elden Ring tbh even though I am enjoying the brief movements with it, it just needs a lot of attention and focus that I just can't be bothered to give it.

Nope. Got bored somewhere after the second commander, third magma wyrm, fourth dragon or umpteenth "mini-dungeon". . .don't remember.

In all seriousness I put the game on the shelf at the Land of Giants because the thing just kept on going. The previous games were fun because they didn't wear out their welcome: you weren't playing the games long enough for the MANY warts in Miyazaki's game design to really start annoying you. Then you start to realize, as cool as it is that you're finally in an open-world "Dark Souls", the fundamental structure hasn't really changed any.

So nope, have been playing a bunch of games from the backburner (currently running through Pathfinder 2). I'll get to ER when the inevitable DLC is released (or if they bring in the "B Team" to do a Scholar of the First Sin style remix of the game).

Played a fair amount. Never beat it due to boredom. Uninstalled. Bought Sekiro. Playing that instead. Best decision I ever made.

I find it hard to get into Elden Ring after Elden Ring, didn't finish the game, really became boring at the later stages for me.

As for the other games, nothing interesting at the moment.

Same problem here. I'm not joking when I say I'm thinking on temporally giving up gaming because all games I try play like shit after Elden Ring, and this forcing myself to play something is hurting my hobby.

I felt like this and have been bouncing around about 5 games which is a crazy thing for me, I normally dedicate myself to one but I am actually kind of pulling it off.

I started.

Lego Star Wars - Which is amazing as a fan of Star Wars. I can play for like 30 minutes or more and just turn it off - Light hearted fun.

I started Judgement on PS5 and I'm like 1 hour in. I love these games but I just cant get absorbed right at this minute after Elden Ring.

13 Sentinels on Switch - Ive done a few of the chapters and Its blowing me away but Im not binging it like I would have expected, like i did with the nonary games at the time......will chip away at this.

Gran turismo 7 for literally one race then i turn it off lol - Amazing game though just not binging.

Kirby on switch - done like 3 levels - loving it...cant play for more than a level at a time after Elden Ring.

Then I started Guardians of the Galaxy two days ago after the square thread and I am completely hooked. currently on chapter 5 and I'm absorbed. the characters are like Naughty Dog levels of dialogue etc imo and I'm just hooked. Will probably complete by the end of the weekend if its not too long. I actually enjoy the gameplay a lot as well, which I thought wouldn't stick at first. What a great game and an absolute steal for Embracer group. Eidos Montreal are goooood!
- I don't know why this game has clicked with me right now...but it just has? strange.

Ive also picked up Switch Sports but thats just for the odd game of bowling etc with the fam.

Oh and I bought rogue legacy 2 but i haven't even loaded that yet :/

I must be the worst Elden Ring player in existence.

My start build is Samurai.. I've made it to Edrtree Avatar boss, I don't even know how you can keep getting close to him even with the horse. I have like no real upgrades, I've upgraded to like level 16 Vigor, no other weapons besides a magic/astrologer staff I can't learn spells with even though I have purchased the cookbooks etc... Just have the Wolves Ashes of War thingy. I think I'm not good with a melee build. I'm like so lost and don't know what I'm doing half the time. I just keep exploring, making it to the next site of grace and picking up whatever I can along the way lol.. I think From Software/Souls type games games are not my thing.. I really loved Sekiro but didn't quite finish it. I don't have the patience. It definitely hasn't ruined games for me, I've easily gone back to CP2077 getting close to finishing side quests, a bit of GTAV next gen version, Forza Horizon 5 etc.

Yep, I'm just prepping my character for a NG+ run.

Don't care to play anything else right now. In fact I'll probably take a break from gaming entirely when I'm done with it to reset my perception/expectations.

I'm 20 hours in, just got the The Academy of Rey Mysterio of whatever it's called, I don't think I'm ready to fully grasp how big this game is, it's pretty breathtaking.

FIFA doesn't feel right after Elden Ring. :messenger_loudly_crying:

I'm not a FIFA player, I have standards. lol

I can separate gaming experiences just fine. Hell, I play my PS1/PS2 backlog games from time to time.
"I'll never be able to enjoy games again" is just the same moronic BS people said after BotW, yet here we are.
