Anyone else going back to 30fps on console?

I think a lot of people would agree that one of the best things about this gen is a 60fps option for almost every game. At the front end of the gen it was great because cross gen games, often even with PS5/SX upgrades would look great at 60fps at an often 1440p internal res or above with good IQ. (The Witcher 3, CP:2077, etc) And of course, a lot of current gen games have good IQ at 60fps (Indiana Jones, Ghost of Yotei, Decima Engine games, etc)

But now in almost every current gen only game, I find myself more disappointed and distracted by the poor IQ of 60fps modes (artifacting, super low internal res, poor upscaling, aweful shadow quality, etc.) than dropping the framerate to 30fps, even on an OLED. I think prime examples are Avatar, SW: Outlaws, AC: Shadows, Doom: TDA, Alan Wake 2, Jedi Survivor, Space Marine 2, and Spiderman 2.

My basic point: even the Pro isn't powerful enough to run ambitious current gen games at 60fps with good IQ. I wouldn't say the Pro is super outdated already, but it's gonna get rough if the PS6 is delayed past 2027. It feels weird to go back to 30fps, but I'd say I prefer it now to the often poor IQ of performance modes. Anyone else feel the same?

(P.S-Yes I'd love to go PC, but the prices in the country I live in are prohibitively expensive)

no... I value gameplay you know.

and your "image quality" is gone anyway the moment anything moves due to the poor temporal resolution and motion blur. so what's the point? you can ever even notice the increased resolution when standing completely still

No since almost all game gives me the option play on 60FPS but with that being said I will not skip great game just because it runs at 30FPS, it how I enjoy most Switch games like Xenoblade series and Astral Chain.

Me.

30fps is vastly superior to higher framerates.

Nop.. not now not ever. 30 fps its over for me since the end of the ps4pro gen.

Case in point just started BM:wukong , and the 60 fps gameplay of the perfomance mode on ps5pro is infinity better than the better lighting of the other modes, the so called "perfect" balanced mode at 40 fps is pure copium because is just as dogshit as 30 fps... for me anyway.

that's besides the idea of this thread I think.
it's about 30fps modes on current gen
Yeah, the question is not whether you can still enjoy games where 30fps is the only option, but whether you prefer playing at the 30fps quality mode for better IQ, even if a 60fps mode is available.

I want an end to this current gen push for 60fps everything. All the games now have that simplified fortnite art design or look like last gen games running at 60fps.

Give me games that look like gta 6 and hellblade 2 all day at 30fps. Sadly no one wants to spend the time and manpower to create the detailed environments and characters anymore.

I honestly Like both and switch between them often to see how things feel and play. My first playthrough of Silent Hill 2 on PS5 was quality at 30 fps. Playing it off and on again recently in performance 60 fps. It feels like a different experience but i really have no problem. Even Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth at 30 FPS is awesome (until you turn on versatility....which holy shit gamers). My point is 30 FPS does not bother me. Shit I play zelda games on my N64 and those usually hit 15 or 20 FPS. Just pick what feels good to you.

So, how a game looks is superior to how a game feels and plays, huh?
I was just joking, I don't actually think it's superior, but at the same time I do think there is something nice, and pleasant about low fps that is just lost when you go 60fps, or higher.

I don't like using using the term cinematic effect because it sort of became negative...

Low fps can make games, at least in my eyes, feel less cheap, and less plastic - original versions of FFVII - FFXII simply feel more epic, and classic, and yet when I saw them running at 60fps, even though I liked it very much, it also felt wrong.

Depends on the game. Alan Wake 2? perfectly fine at 30fps. Doom? Hell no, gimme all the frames. Shit's too frenetic to really look at anything in detail anyway.

I also strongly disagree with your comment about the PS5 Pro. It runs everything at 60+ fps, and outside of a few games that had weird issues with shadows + PSSR I've overall been very happy. Diablo IV looks and plays phenomenal. Outlaws looks great, and Yotei is stunning. For every game I've played w/ PS5 Pro 'enhancements', it's either been a significant uplift to IQ or an uplift to framerate, sometimes both. And supposedly it should only be getting better with PSSR2 coming in the next couple months.

You'd be singing the opposite tune if you had first experienced them at 60, only to see them downgraded to 30.

I just ignore 4k unless it's on PC. Went back to my 1080p plasma for console gaming and haven't regretted it once.

Most of those 30fps modes don't even look good on 4k screens anyway.

I'm extremely pleased that I haven't had to play any PS5 game at 30fps. Say what you will about this gen but to me it's a big deal that I never had to suffer through a game running at 30fps (yet anyway, we'll see what happens with GTA VI on the Pro).

Sorry but I can't take anybody seriously if they "prefer 30fps". The argument of better image quality is a stupid one since games aren't a stationary affair and the second you pan the camera horizontally at 30fps, image quality turns to complete shit. Nothing but a garbled/blurry mess.

Going back? Some of us never left!

I'm one of those freaks who genuniely feel 30 FPS is "more cinematic". Whenever I play something like Death Stranding 2 at 60 frames, it always remind me of watching daytime soap operas in the 90s--it just looks weird! Those who know, know.

EDIT:

It's ok if you don't take me seriously, so long as you take me gently. :lollipop_blowing_kiss:

I barely play games in console these days but when I do, most of the time I chose image quality and resolution over performance any day. I cant get into a game if it does not look properly, especially after being on pc for so long

I recently played through Wildlands on a Ps5 Pro which is 1440p 30fps. It was fine. I think its really also a psychlogically reason If you go in with the mindset 30 fps sucks is unplayabel you move camera and 9nly watch the stutter, thrn yes you wont make it but if you just start the game play genuinely and have fun you will forget about it.

And yes i played on a 240hz monitor i know the difference which is miniscule to 144hz especially considering the extra power you need for the extra 100fps.

id say 60 is perfect for everything, 120/144 the most you will ever need. Above its a rip off literally.

Not on purpose, only if I don't have any other option(poor switch owner... monhungen and pokemons are doing "fine" on 30fps though).

I'm digging recomps lately and 60fps alone elevates them more than graphics. I'm waiting for the twilight princess recomp, not interested in the hd version.
