Anyone else play Kameo?

Meh. I played it today for the first time. All I can say is I hope it's not indicative of what the "Xbox360 experience" is all about. They had it running on what looked to be one of those samsung tvs I think. To me the controls felt clunky, and the camera didn't feel too great either. For example, when there were several of those green ogre things on the screen at once, if one gets directly behind you, it felt like it took too for the camera to pan when trying to turn around to kill the enemy. As for the graphics, I wasn't impressed. I don't know whether it was the art-style, the game itself, or subconsciously having high expectations. I'd say HALO2 is somewhat more pleasant to look at. I know it's just a demo, but from what I played, I'll be waiting for the reviews. =/

I didn't bother to play anything else. I elf needed food badly so I bought DOOM3+XP(r0x0rz but too dark and too much flashlight toggling so far) then promptly left. The actual console also looked larger than I expected, but not HUGE. Over the course of playing though, I heard several people ask to order 360. The clerk told every one of them that it would be for the middle of December. I guess all the preorders are full. :lol

BTW, while I was at the register, they had this weird game playing on one of the overhead screens. It looked like a survival horror game without weapons, but I couldn't really tell. There was this girl who was running from a monster and hiding in various places(under the bed, etc.). I think there was this dog there trying to protect her too. Anyone know what game that was? :D

Where did you get to play?

I played it at Walmart today. And even though they had it setup wrong (480 stretched) thought it looked great and wanted to play more but my neck was getting cramped. Only thing that bugged me was camera controls were backwards from what I was used to, hopefully that is a setting that can be changed.

Well, it's a good thing you're winning two Xbox 360s....

Anyway, I would have played Kameo this week, but my local Wal-Mart has the kiosk turned off because of interference. I think the game looks great though.

I played it at EB. Everyone else who played it were like "Wow!", but I think they were playing King Kong before I took a turn.

I played it at the NY press event a few weeks back. Like you, my experience really wasn't pleasant.

As you say, the controls leave a lot to be desired. For one, almost all the actions take place using the triggers. This just isn't intuitive for a platformer. The left one does one attack (or jumping in Kameo's), the right one does another (hover), and pushing them together does a third (an imprecise flipping jump kick). Since the triggers are analog, it's somewhat difficult to press both at the same time to execute the third attack. The face buttons are just exclusively as hotkeys to switch between three specified characters.

Also, as you mentioned, the camera is awful. It was particularly bad when I was that character that could roll up into a ball. What would happen was, I would charge a roll attack, let it go, and then have to carefully reposition the character to shoot back the opposite way. You couldn't just hold the opposite direction, the character would roll in whatever direction you were facing. This resulted in me rolling off a cliff numerous times.

Lastly, I personally don't like the art style. I know this is largely subjective but it does bother me. Generally, I'm not the type to bitch about art style but Kameo's looks nearly make me sick to my stomach. It's just so goddamn garish. It looks like they took Sudeki, slapped on some bump mapping, deep-fried it, and then sprinkled it with glitter. Ugh.

On one good note, the horse riding is fun.

I didn't get a chance to play it, but the people at microsoft behind that 360 demo should be fired. The 2K sports demos used current gen vids on the disc.

Yesterday to my suprise my Wal-mart replaced the x-box with a 360, man I was excited. Oh wait, some little fucking faggot already pryed both of the analog sticks off the controller! What the fuck!!!! pissed me off so bad.

To stick in his ears - he thought he was a Martian!

I went in to an EB that one of my friends manages and he said he went to a vendor show a while back and he got to play Kameo for 20 minutes. He said it kicked all kinds of ass and was gorgeous to look at.

Kameo isn't a platformer...

Kameo can jump. She can alsol double jump IIRC.

Either way, so instead of "platformer", I should've said "Zelda-esque game"? Yeah, that makes sense.

I can see this game eliciting Star Fox Adventures emotions. Some will love it, some will hate it. I played it last night at the local Gamestop and I thought it was OK. I agree with your camera and control observations, but I thought the graphics were quite good. The gameplay is middle of the road in the demo (didn't make me want to buy it).

Perhaps the camera and control issues will be all cleared up by launch.

it seems to me that they are trying to invalidate your impressions with this.. just ignore them.

Yeah, you're probably right. My complaint works regardless of whether you want to classify it as a platformer or not anyway. Zelda would feel screwy using the triggers exclusively as well.

You may not know this... but was it possible to map the keys? what were the other buttons on the controller for? ( the 360 has alot of buttons)

I think the other buttons are hotkeys for turning into the other warriors.

I didn't see an option for mapping the buttons. I don't remember what the others did but as I said earlier, the face buttons are hotkeys for the different characters. I can't remember exactly what the bumpers (the shoulder buttons) do but I think one of them brings up your character book. Either way, I tried all the buttons and the main actions definitely take place on the triggers.

Nobody loved SFA. At best, players tolerated it.

i liked it. i didnt think it was exceptional, but i had fun playing it.. then again, i like many games that are rated 6s and 7s.. i wouldnt pay full price for any of these though.

Bah, is it any coincidence that the two people in this thread who don't like it say it has "teh bad art"?

I think not.

those arent their only complaints.. and the way they put it was far from 'teh bad art'

I was spending some time near an Xbox 360 at the Union Square Circuit City, in the middle of a large crowd. I was the only one who tried Kameo, and I stopped after two minutes; no one else was particularly interested in what it had to offer. Most people grabbed the controller to play the Call of Duty (which got high remarks for graphical detail, seeing it was so crisp) and King Kong demos.

Haters are gonna get owned on launch day. Rare will make you all into fairies and wallguys on November 22.

I'm far from a hater. My 360 is already paid for. Really, I wish Kameo was good...it would give me another candidate to pick up at launch.

The ad hominem attacks need to stop. Seriously, My posting history should show I'm anything but biased against Microsoft or Xbox.

Everything I post is either illogical or a poor attempt at humor. No attack intended.

I would somewhat agree with your impressions, but this is a rediculious thing to say.

I played Kameo the last 2 nights and the game looked good. Sometimes the texturing looked questionable, other times it looked fantastic. Some of the parallax mapping on the walls with light shining on them looked near pixar quality (had to use that example8P). The most problamatic thing that I saw with the game is that it just didnt seem all that fun to me. Just not my type of game I guess.

Call of Duty 2 suprised me how good it looked. I have the demo on a $3500 gaming rig and the game looked even better. The 60fps gameplay was smooth as butter. The 4XAA was turned on and everything was ultra crisp and clean. Very impressive.

Kong looked fantastic as well. The Trex/s especially looked good with the detail of their skin. The particle effects and lighting were also really well done. Think I might change my Kameo preorder to King Kong instead.
