Anyone Else Playing Rebelstar: Tactical Command?

Musashi Wins!

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
The new hotness? I guess not.

Still, I've been anticipating this for a while and with nothing else looking that appealing at the game store today I scooped it up. It's only $20 and I don't think it's going to be huge. +1 Namco for publishing it.

I'm still in the tutorial missions but hopefully I'll get some more time in at work tomorrow. Such a X-Com flashback and there is nothing wrong with that. Seems fairly deep so far with a lot of tactical options and a decent Alien Overlord story holding it together. If I have any complaints it's that the isometric view is occasionally restrictive with all the walls and hallways and there's a little bit of slowdown. I did read today that if they do ok with this that there is likely to be a sequel in the same world --- buy this so they greenlight it for the DS.

Makes the perfect Advance Wars companion in your handheld!

Thx for the impressions. I'll be picking this up during lunch break tommorrow.
Good to see turn-based is here to stay. This, AW DS, Disciples 2 DS, Jagged Alliance DS, PoP DS, AOE DS, and Civ4 for PC...fingers crossed for Bethesda's take on Fallout.

I haven't been keeping up with this game but just how similar is it to X-com? I really loved how you could get tech by dissecting aliens. And the tactical battles were just awesome. I wish Civilization followed a similar design (it's great as it is, but tactical battles would be awesome in Civilization).

I was just thinking about making this thread. Well, thanks Musashi for doing it instead. :)

Anyway, I was definitely excited when I picked this up today and for a measely 20 bucks and I had the only preorder at the store. I put about an hour or two into it before moving on to finsih up my school work but the game definitely reminds me of the old Xcom. This and AW DS in my DS equals absolute strategy bliss. Hopefully the game will sell well enough that Namco greenlights the sequel. There is a little bit of slowdown but it's easy to look past and it's still an awesome game. Can't wait to invest some more time into it.

Also surume, nice Calamari Wrestler avatar.

Well so far I would say it's very similar in mechanics. Whether the whole tech advancement is there, I don't know yet. When I play some more tomorrow I'll be sure to report back and hopefully a few others are in as well.

There's a game developer diary at GameSpy too for those that are really interested.

This is X-Com light. The tactical battles are extremely similar, but none of the macrostrategy bits survived. I miss real X-Com.

Awesome. I was going to buy it yesterday, but they said it would arrive Thurs. So I guess I better get my ass to TRU tomorrow after class.

Damn... that bites. I miss real X-Com too.

Just picked this up! So far it is pretty cool and I haven't played anything like it since X-Com and Jagged Alliance. I'm pretty happy with the production values on it too, doesn't feel cheap like I thought it would.

Yeah so it's light, big freakin deal. I'm just happy this game was made. 5 missions in and I am pleased so far. I have read that death=restart so that does not bode well but so far so good.

Oh, I'm not complaining. The market being what it is, I'm overjoyed to see these guys back in business.

I'd just love to see the other half of the game come back in the DS sequel ;) Buy it! Ensure a sequel! For great justice!

I was shocked to see it available when I stopped by the local Gamestop today. Even after being told only 2 copies showed up, I wasn't quite ready to buy(AW: DS has barely got much playtime as is). The $20 tag immediately convinced me to purchase, but it'll be quite a while until I actually play it.

Fuck it, I need to have this.

Who wants to pick up a copy for me? I'll PayPal ya. Screw paying $40us for it, if it even comes out in Australia at all. AND this saves me even more money since I won't feel the urge to re-subscribe to Laser Squad: Nemesis.

One important question: Can you rename your squad members? That was one cool thing from X-Com that was missing from Laser Squad: Nemesis.

All the right words being used in this thread. Laser Squad, Jagged alliance, $20

Tempted to check out videogamesplus.ca, but I'm scared I'll end up also buying AWDS, then start a crawl over to play asia and buy Quendan!

I just picked this up today. I'll have to say, I like the combat better than Advance Wars and Fire Emblem. I am at mission 9 now, and the difficulty has really taken a step up.

Saw this in the stores today but am waiting for some further impressions... very nice looking game, you don't see stuff like this coming out of the West very much.

I'm reviewing the game right now. Just started it.

As an X-Com and Jagged Alliance fanboy, I like the overall look and feel of the game so far.

One question -- are there destructable environments ?

I can't wait to get into this game.

This IS the X-Com and Lazersquad team, AFAIK.

Awesome!

Yeah where are the detailed impressions? I'm just staring at my copy.. Gotta wait till next week. Sigh...

This game is fucking awesome. It's challenging and just engrossing. I can't put it down. It consumes my every thought. God, this is fucking paradise.

Review just posted on Gamespot!

Sounds great to me :) Think I'll be hitting up videogamesplus.ca for this one in the near future.
That's a pretty fair review. The complaints about the presentation were unfounded in my mind because I personally found the presentation to be much better than I expected but the comments about the gameplay are spot on. Definitely not as deep as thte team's previous work but damn it isn't addictive and an absolute blast to play.

Just picked it up today before class, only played two tutorial missions but so far I'm loving the title. Very simplistic in presentation so far but its really not much of an issue. Very fun so far.

I still haven't played much of it (will do so before I sleep), but it seems the only watering down so far is in the macro-economics and the kneeling and going prone for accuracy ratings. Anything else?

I don't know if it's just me, but I really dig the character designs so far. Probably the best 'faux anime' I've seen yet.
