Anyone else ready for next-gen?

All the talk about PS3/XBox2/Rev has me pumped. I can't wait for next-gen consoles, I don't really want a Xbox 2 yet, but I might just break down and pick one up this year if the price is right and the launch is solid. Anyone else dying to see/play next gen stuff?

No. Current gen stuff still looks good and doesn't feel old at all. It's too early for Xbox 2!

I know that current stuff this looks good, got lots of PS2 titles I've gotta pick up this year. But my curiosity for next gen gaming is going to get the best of me come x-mas 2005...i just know it.

No!! I don't have 2000$ to throw down on getting all 3 consoles and everything esle needed to play them! AGAIN!

Not entirely. By the time DC launched, PSX games had long looked dated; Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube games don't, and I think we have a while to go before they do. I certainly won't protest the Xenon 2005 launch, but I do wish MS would delay it a year.

Unless Nintendo's next system changes the face of gaming, the differences between this gereration and the next might be less significant than any previous pair of generations. Even the 16-bit systems introduced some rudimentary 3D; the next generation of systems probably won't look or play that much better than the current ones.

"the next generation of systems probably won't look or play that much better than the current ones."

Depends on the genre, I'm sure that greater hardware power will really help on GTA-like games. Racing games will benefit as well, along with action type of games. But i think that free-roaming games are going to really take advantage of next-gen hardware the most. I guess, we'll be able to compare (sorta) with Godfather the game.

Nope. Great games are still coming out for the current consoles so I think I can live without more powerful hardware and prettier visuals until 2007.

Nah, I'm pretty content. Hell, I just picked up Onimusha 1 (along with 2 and 3) and despite it being a launch title I'm content with the graphics.

I would like to see a next-gen Dynasty/Samurai Warriors though.

I was ready when I realized XBOX couldn't do 1080i without sacrifices and PS2 struggles with 480p. If the FCC has a candle under the asses of the TV manufacturers, I would like console makers to follow suit.

Not really. Didn't like this gen a whole lot and can't imagine that new technology is going to make the least bit of difference. :(

Higher poly counts could give developers more options for complex level design, more options for environmental factors like debris and other details, and allow them to put more AI controlled objects like enemies on the screen. Combine that with a next gen system's greater capability to handle complex physics (not to mention other things) and developers have what they need to create different gameplay experiences that aren't possible on todays consoles, similar to the jump from PSX to PS2. Like Pedigree said, almost any genre could benefit.

No , not yet ..
I just think this Gen can't just end with RE4 , TLOZ , or Wanda I think the M$ can stay with XboX till the End of last year , Sony should wait till the PS2 sales get down to 15kpW ,, Nintendo should Stop makin games forever ...

If they are going to make some "Stupid" way of playing they should Stop ,, That's what I meant ,,
I want Games from Nintendo as Good as N64 Games ..

I agree with you and Pedigree on those points. We just differ on how important those will be when it comes to creating new experiences. Free-roaming games do have the most room to grow; I hope they don't get caught in the position of trying to manage gobs of environmental data on systems that aren't designed to handle that (no hard drives!). I'd almost rather have no implementation of a feature than a halfway-realized implementation that does little more than make you wonder what could've been. *cough*fable*cough* Not saying it can't be done, but I think the trend for next generation is going to be pushing toward photorealism rather than pushing gameplay boundaries.

Plus I'm flat broke. I can't afford this crap.

I'm surprised by all the people saying today's graphics are still good.

Everytime I play a new game these days something about the visuals feel lacking. I think this might be because visuals have plateaud and I'm noticing the same problems and very few fixes. DMC3 looks great but everything is low-polygon and it's still jaggy (watching some of the cutscenes I couldn't help but imagine next-gen DMC). GT4 still shimmers. Splinter Cell CT xbox still runs at 30fps, and these are the high budget games.

Low budget games at this point look like shit. Low polygon counts, jaggy as hell, unstable framerates, etc...This is something that next-gen should fix to some degree.

I dunno, maybe it's because I see what can be done on PC advancing every month while the consoles are still stuck trying to do their best within the limits of 5 year old technology.

Maybe it's because I spend 95% of my time with the PS2 which is the weakest looking of the bunch, but hell if all 3 next-gen consoles came out tomorrow at $600 a pop I'd have no qualms running to store and blowing 2k+ tommorow.

Next gen wont change a thing... the high budget games will still look better, but not good enough compared to the current pc stuff....

Just because a new console is released doesn't mean it's illegal to make games for or play games on the old ones. They'll still be supported for a year or more after their successor comes out. Also, don't forget every new console sees a LOT of downtime in it's first year. We're not going to see another Xmas season like we did last year for a lonnng time.

Just look back to the beginning of this gen. DC released in '99 and what happened? Did everyone box up their Playstations? Not even close. PS1 and N64 were still widely supported. Hell, the PS1 remained strong through 2001 and still saw semi-frequent releases through 2003!

(then again, if the first console of the next gen was a Sony or Nintendo one, I wouldn't be at all surprised if many of these answers turned out differently :P)

I'll probably make up my mind at E3. Aw hell who am I kidding I'll buy them all at launch. :D
The way I figure it, I upgrade my pc or buy a new one for gaming, every 2-3 years, so this isn't all that bad.

Yes, but they will reach a point where it doesn't matter. Right now videogame characters all have blocky arms/legs and are jaggy due to no AA. When we get to the point next gen where even low-budget games will have rounder more realistic looking characters and all games have at least AAx2 so there are no jaggies, then that's the point where aging won't hurt as much.

Right now art design is making up for hardware faults.

I can honestly say that I am still satisfied with the graphics of my X-Box. My GC and PS2 are strugling a little but X-Box games still look fine. I mean, look at Halo 2, Riddick and SCCT!

But like everyone else I am always wondering what the developers could be able to do with new hardware that isn't possible right now and because of that I can't wait for next-gen. I'll be there at X-Box 360 launch to see what it has to offer, but with so many great games from this gen that I still have to play my GC and PS2 will still get a lot of use from me.

I'm ready. I'll have all 3 consoles paid off come next month. $400 on PS3 and Xbox 2 a piece and $300 on Revolution. Just guessing on prices though.

If next gen games don't look at least 2x better than RE4 and are in 1080i/720p right of the bat, then no, i am not ready.

umm u can pre-order next gen systems already?

Most people here say no but you'll all get a stiffy at next E3 and suddendly be ready to jack off.
I'm not ready for next gen but i already have the feel it's the last year for my PS2. And i can't figure out how 2005 games will look better than the lastest ones.
For me it's: 2006 = probably going next gen.

Hell yea Im ready,Im pretty sure with RE4/Ninja Gaiden we've seen the best these systems have to offer.

I'm more interested in sports games though,I want to see if they make any strides in animation and A.I.

Yes.

I'm finishing up a few games, and then I'm through with this generation, aside for maybe Final Fantasy 12, and Zelda.

While games like Jak 3, RE4, and Ninja Gaiden are impressive for their consoles, the current generation has aged and looks like total ass. PC games are easily 20x ahead. Playing games like Doom 3 at high settings, Half Life 2, Rome: Total War, Far Cry, and hell even WoW is way ahead of consoles at 1280x1024. PC games now have much higher resolution textures, superior water effects and lighting, several times the polygons, silky 60-75+ fps, much higher filtering and AA, and other effects and shaders make it look nearly a generation ahead.

Considering the amazing quality of games released this year (RE4, GT4, T5, DMC3), I'm in no big rush.

Add Wanda, GoW, and whatever else E3 brings the current systems still have a lot of juice left. That said, i still can't wait to get my hands on next gen hardware.

I'm ready; have been for some time. As Bebpo said, this gen has plateaued in terms of how good the graphics are going to get. For certain games (like GTA), this can also be a limiting factor for the gameplay. New hardware will get things moving forward again.

RE4? It'll be way ahead of that. Look at images of Elder Scrolls 4. That'll be the some of the worst graphics of next generation, and it's leagues ahead of RE4.

Nah, I'm happy with the current gen and think I will be for at least another year. Ask me again after I've been teased with screenshots from upcoming next-gen games.

i'm content now and i'll only be excited when screen shots, movies, and feature lists for games become available. The only thing i'm really interested in next gen are new ways to interact with games. EyeToy and whatever Nintendo's cooking up have my interest picqued at the moment.

you're forgetting FFXII, the new Zelda, and whatever Level 5 has been working on since they finished DQVIII. I only listed games that were out already.
