Anyone have a Motorola Razr?

I've pretty much decided to get one within the next week or so without really shopping around because I think they look pretty dadgum cool. I really need a new phone - one that comes with the bluetooth earpiece. I've always thought they were sweet since they came out back in December. The $200 price drop a cople months back also helped. Anyone who has one have any complaints with it?

I'm thinking about getting one next summer when my current contract expires and I can get one cheap. By that time, I expect they won't cost much at all.. Though there might be something even better I'll want by then.

I just got one last week for 199 via the cingular business ordering thing, and i think all that happened was that my contract got extended for a year. whooppity doo.

i like the phone, i was on a nokia 3650 before. i'm getting used to the way motorola works but i like it a lot. i read some things about volume issues, but i've had none. its as sweet functioning as it is sweet looking.

I've had one for a few months now (ever since it first came out here in Australia). The phone looks sweet and all, but function wise there's nothing really special about it. The major problems I have with it is that like all Motorola mobiles phones, menu navigation sucks (one of the main reasons why I stayed with Nokia for some time) and the VGA camera isn't much chop compared to the 2 megapixels cam-phones out on the market these days. Battery life isn't that great also and I find the keypad to be quite fingerprint prone.

Oh and as of late, I've been having problems with the ring tones. Everytime I'd highlight a ringtone to hear the preview, the bloody thing won't stop for ages even when I shut it. Sometimes I'll have to completely turn off the phone for it to stop. Don't know what the issue is with that, but since I don't regularly change my ringtone it isn't much of a problem for me.

But yeah, if you dress to impress and don't mind those quibbles I've mentioned, then go for it. The V3 is still easily the sexiest phone on the market today. Having said that though, it's kinda irritating nowadays seeing every 5 people on the streets with the same phone as me.

At least shop around. People who buy phones like this are what's wrong with the industry.

It's also why there are cell phone review sites all over the internet, which will clearly tell you their favorite phone for each price range and provider.

If you look around at the phones in your price range and you still like the Razr best, then go for it. But don't be stupid and buy something SOLELY for looks, especially a semi-major purchase you'll likely use all the time in the coming years.

Stay away, not only does it have horrible battery life it doesnt even have features that make it worth the price.

I heard they might have fixed the battery problem with the new black one but i doubt it.

I've had one for a minute.

It's an excellent phone if you just want a small, light, well-built handset and don't care about advanced features. High-quality materials are used for the body; the glass surfaces of the two screens have yet to be scratched at all despite the fact that the phone has lived in my pocket completely naked for the past 6 months. Actually, the entire body is free of blemishes. I glanced at my swirl-screened PSP and quickly developed a strong appreciation for the craftsmanship of the little Motorola. The phone's scratch resistance and light weight are quite impressive.

Battery life has been excellent in my case. The phone charges up extremely quickly.

I highly recommend the phone as long as you're not looking for a pseudo-PDA.

I was going to change my old 3650 for a RAZR in January, but once I looked past it's pretty face, It wouldn't be a worthy upgrade. iTap is horrible and the camera is poor. Maybe the v3x
motorola_v3x.jpg
will address these and more issues.

I'm probably going to go for the SE K750i or wait for an N-Series Nokia.

As bizarre as it sounds, the thing that I most don't like about this phone, is that it's too wide. It would look much better, more proportional and cooler if it was maybe 0.5cm narrower. Well, that or the Star Trek TNG keyboard, I can't decide :\ The screen looks very nice with it's metallicy reflection surface, though.

Exactly what I think. I had a chance to buy the phone at a really great discount about 150 decided not to. I dont like the look of it. I should of bought it and sold it on ebay but I said screw it.

I got one through LetsTalk.com a couple weeks ago, free after rebates with a 2 year contract. I like it just fine so far. I wanted a very small clamshell phone, and that's exactly what it is. The software is a bit wonky, but that's a Motorola thing, nota RAZR thing, and it does get the job done. Reception is much better than my old Nokia 3650. And battery life is just fine. I can leave it on standby for 3 days and it'll still be at 2/3 charge, according to the meter. It only went to 1 bar on the morning of the 4th day. This is with Bluetooth off, which it is by default. I don't do much talking on the phone so I can't really comment on the talk time.

Anyway, it's a nice, SMALL, rugged phone. And you can't really go wrong for free (if you're willing to take a 2 year contract).

Aside from looking "cool", it's no different really (except a few minor things) than a V600, except of course, from looking "cool".

I had it for a month and brought it back cause I wasn't too happy with it. I'm waiting til the end of the year when the Nokia N90 comes out.

I like it. Sound output isn't fantastic but the screen's extremely good. Great for messing around with wallpapers.

I <3 the K750i, was thinking about either ordering it online or going up to NYC to see if there are some relatively reasonable prices.

I really would like to test the signal strength in my area before making a commitment though :/

i'd love to get the k750 but it dosen't have the 850 gsm so you are fucked in america

getting a s710 off ebay for now

I've been really looking at getting one, but 300 is a little steep, and I still have a year before I can upgrade my phone (I really hate my current phone too).

Does anyone know of any good deals for people who already have a service plan?

It looks nice but thats it. Very outdated now and its a year old. Motorola seem to be falling far behind technologicaly. The physical presentation is the only good area.

Samsung and Nokia have better small phones. Samsung have this small 3g phone with a 1 megapixel camera that is also tiny. Happens to be the smallest 3g phone. Nokia have the 6230'i' which is superior to the Razr in every way save for looks plus its screen is one of the best (no colour change with angles and higher res) and it has expandable memory using dirt cheap MMC cards. So you could put a large decent music collection on it.

Nseries will be very expensive. I think you mean the Nokia 6280 or 6270 which are rivals for the D600 spec wise. K750 is underspecced save for the camera. Nseries is overkill :P

Nothing beats this. Razr is a cheap common phone this isnt. Its also nicely speeced with the same famous screen 6230i uses. :D

check out the website:

You just missed the best of all possible sales for the phone. Fry's (sale ended Tuesday) was offering the RAZR (black or silver) with an iPod shuffle (512MB) for $99 with a 1yr Cingular contract.

Before you buy a phone - ANY phone visit fatwallet.com, then hit wirefly.com, letstalk.com, etc. Not all of the providers will offer the same sale. If you've got a Fry's in your area or have a friend who does - get the Frys circular. That place is amazing.

It depends on which RAZR you're talking about, actually. the CDMA version has a better camera, and should have EVDO support. But as far as technology goes in the current one, no, it's not that hot. However, the next phone in the series - the SLVR - should more than make up for it. It's got EDGE, a MicroSD slot, and video capture support.

That's all well and good, but unless the 6230i (or the 8800) are quad-band phones, they'll have issues in the States. T-Mobile USA is primarily 1900MHz, but has sporadic roaming capabilities on 850MHz. The other major GSM provider here in the states is 850/1900 MHz all the time. Missing the former frequency would put a pretty big hole in his coverage.

I know it's all subjective, so I'll just weigh in: The 8800 is damned ugly. The only nice looking phone Nokia's pushed out recently is the N90. I'm not buying the rectangular, slider stuff they've been trying to push lately. If I wanted something completely devoid of personality, I would've kept my old StarTAC. :P

God damnit, I made a point to not click on that fry's advertisment cause I didn't want to spend money to save for a razor. :lol

:lol Its going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Moto likes their bastard OS for some reason and is currently working out the kinks in their Linux variant of their OS. Moto must really not want to pay OS royalties because they've been dodging other OSes for a long long time.

And what's sad is that from '98 to '03, I was using Motorolas, so if there's one UI I know inside and out, it's theirs. :P

If you want a simple clamshell phone that is extremely light and well-built, there's nothing better than a V3. It's as simple as that, really.

If you're looking for PDA-level functionality, there are tons of other options. I personally wanted the smallest, lightest, and most well-built metal-bodied clamshell that allows me to make clear calls and send text messages. The Motorola fits that bill perfectly (I'll excuse the bit of plastic on the back bottom half).

If TMobile USA is his carrier he should be ok without 850MHz unless he plans on making and receiving alot of calls in rural areas.
