I think it has something to do with "just making sure." I mean, there seems to be a little dust on a banana peel, so clensing it makes me feel that much better.

For the record, can a banana peel actually be eaten?

I've heard they're slightly poisonous, so I don't think so. I'm not sure though. But washing the peel doesn't make much sense. Whatever floats your boat.

Way to make me feel bad guys. :(

I know for a fact orange peels can be eaten, because I believe at Jamba Juice, unpeeled oranges are blended into drinks.

yeah, they can, and they can be used for other things, like marmalade, but i still don't wash or eat them...

I knew a kid in Jr High that'd eat straight through a banana before he peeled it. More of a dare thing or a "trick". He didn't do it too often because it's make him a little sick so I'd say the poisonous thing might have some merit if you ate the whole thing.

apple you wash because you eat the peel, as for the banana, it resides inside the skin....dust isnt actually penetrating through that layer. so no point in washing.

I'm sure big name stores wash the bananas before putting them on shelves. I would understand if you're washing bananas straight from the plant or from a farmer's market or something...

Candy wrapppers :lol

I think my dust fear has a little merit since I occasionally eat my bananas by pulling little pieces and then putting them in my mouth.

I'm talking about washing the peels.

My friends think it's weird that I do so.

You are actually supposed to wash bananas too guys to make sure none of the pesticides that are on the peel get onto the fruit. Bananas are sprayed pretty heavily with pesticides due to them being picked well before they are ripe.
Honest.

For me, it's

Apples: Yes
Bananas: No
Mangos: Yes
Oranges: Most of the time. This is mostly because they're sticky on the outside :P

My doc making me eat these everyday now, which is quite hard for person that can not disgest fiber but apparently its soluable fiber. Anyhow, I cant get these things to last more 3 days before the go bad. Uut on counter, in refrig, they all go yucky. I dont have ride set up to get out 3 times a week just for bananas, so what banana keeping secret?

you're batshit insane if you wash the peels of bananas before you eat them. stop doing it if you want people to think you're normal and don't have some sort of weird chemical imbalance.

Keeping bananas seperate from other fruit makes them last longer.
on the other hand if you have some fruit you want to ripen quickly (like in 24 hours), put the fruit in a paper bag with a fairly ripe banana or two and they will ripen much more quickly.
