I just had an interview with United Airlines yesterday. Everything went well and hopefully I'll get a call back. This will really help me pay for my education, something I'm really having issues with right now. And the benefits seriously kick ass. Free flights? Hell yes. Of course they might start to get suspicious when they see how frequently I visit Amesterdam :lol

So the job is for a customer service position...what am I potentially getting myself into? Now I have never been in an airport before I applied for this position (maybe once as a kid), so I have no idea what to expect. Will it be so hectic that I'll wind up going postal and hijacking a plane?

Another thing is that I have never been on a plane, and if given the job I'll have to take a flight to Chicago for a medial exam, fingerprints ect. Now I'm not a pussy or anything, but I can't say for sure that I wont freak out during take off. Shit, I'm not even a rollercoaster person, so I can't imagine what It'll actually be like to be on a plane for the first time. And if there's turbulence or anything, I'm pretty sure I'll shit myself. Am I just overanalying all of this?

If you've never been on a plane before then the turbulence might be pretty unnerving at first.

What if you find out you have an innate fear of flying that you can't get rid of? Are you sure you thought this all the way thru before making a decision?

See, the thing is that I have always passionatley desired to travel the world. It would sure suck to find out that I have a fear of flying, because I must visit Amerstam, Japan, China, Mexico and many other places in my lifetime. So I will either have to suck it up or take a lot of sleeping pills before I fly or some shit.

Customer service is customer service, the topic of the bitching will likely be airline and travel related, but you should generally be prepared to be blamed for things you have no control over.

Well I was told that planes ascend into the sky very steeply..which reminds me of how I hate the beginning part of rollercoasters when you have that slow climb to the top.

Heh, maybe after working customer service, being thousands of feet in the sky won't be so bad.

BTW, when was the last time a major US airliner crashed? How often has it happened in say...the past 10 years? Yeah, and don't give me that thing about how it's more likely to have an auto accident, at least in a auto accident I wont have the time to contemplate my impending doom, not to mention the fact that you can survive an auto accident.

The last major crash was the Flight 587 crash over Manhattan in Nov 2001.

There hasn't been any major crashes since then I believe. Statistically speaking this has been the safest period ever in American air travel history.

Not like you have to worry. Remember that you're more likely to die because of getting hit by an asteroid than in an airplane crash (not to mention how much more deadly driving and other forms of travel are).

Its pretty reassuring to hear that it really doesn't happen that often here. But still, after looking at those photos of that plane crash...holy hell, I can't imagine what those people were going through as they awaited thier death.

Hmmm..could it be that American pilots are more skilled? I didn't think Americans did anything better than other countries. Or perhaps it's the technology they use in American planes which makes it safer? Who knows.

it's mostly higher safety standards. America + western Europe are much ostensibly much stricter in terms of monitoring planes, and in the west they only fail when they have an unforseen mechanical problem (which is always quickly fixed).
