Sonata Artica's Winterheart Guild is freaking great. I cant recommend this enough.

I personally dont like the vocals of Symthony X or Dream Theater, but love Sonata Artica.

You all should check out an intrumental band called Gordian Knot, it has some members of Dream Theater and other acts, it kicks ass.

Helloween - Rabbit Don't Come Easy (one of the best; Helloween are basically the originators of Power Metal)

I can let that slide :p

Not sure if you're agreeing with me or disagreeing there...but I think that part needs to be taken in the context of the whole song to be appreciated at all. By itself it sounds kindof goofy but I think that line lends a much more personal and real sense to the girls tragedy, as she is litterally hanging herself with something we all grew up with as children.

I think part of the effect of the line comes from the fact that it's not a single line, but it's a reference and item carried throughout the song...

They're still asleep don't hear her cry
And she's still obsessed with rope ends
This time she picks a stronger tie
With Winnie the Pooh and friends

"Over!" she cries through rope ends and silk ties
Beautiful life escaping her young blue eyes
And Winnie is strong, would never let her fall
Prevents her from breathing till she's not there at all
But life holds her hands, refusing to let go
Leaving her breathing on the floor

Helpless she lies in rope ends and undies
Unseeing eyes fixating Eeyore's smile
"Over!" she cries as she's going unblind
Still in this life
Still in this troubled mind
The ceiling let go, the old house let her fall
Dropping her breathing to the hard cold floor
Hitting her head - a broken china soul
Red stains on porcelain and she's not there at all

Breathing she cries for rope ends and silk ties
Beautiful eyes Piglet stands shy behind
Broken she lies undead and unblind
Beautiful life
Beautiful crying young eyes
Blackened and bruised, learning how to see
Staring at her tooth - crimsoned ivory
Hours they pass this broken china soul
Red stains on porcelain
And she's not there at all...

It's one of the most horribly tragic songs I know, largely due to the frequent family references, talking about her children, her husband, her mother....and using childhood images such as winni the pooh and friends to end her life. If you were agreeing with me, and using that line as an example, then I'm sure i'm telling you nothing new, if you were disagreeing, then it's important to realise Pain of Salvation's lyrics can't be taken on a line by line basis(or even verse by verse....or hell, sometimes even song by song). You have to look at how each line contributes to the overall meaning and impact of the song.

Symphony of Enchanted Lands 2 is okay, but Rhapsody really should tone down all the stupid narrative stuff. I don't really see how a song needs to be basically interrupted so that Christopher Lee can read from a script.

And Outlaw, I think Stratovarius have kinda been floundering since Episode. The album after it are good, but don't have the same repeatability. Not to mention that Timo Tolkki went completely batshit some months ago.

Yeah....Destiny is their only album after Episode that I can actually listen in once in a while.

Another favorite of mine is Children of Bodom. They're a combination of speed and power metal with some heavy, harsh vocals. Awsome Awsome band.

I'll second that. I should add that they hate being compared to power metal though =P. THeir music is pretty tough to nail down into a single genre though, which is a good thing.

I'll agree with you, but that line is just weird :p
