Anyone own an iPod?

GAAAAAAAAY
How're the included headphones? I'm thinking about buying some from an acquaintance who just got an iPod and doesn't like them. $20 is about what he'd sell them for. Am I getting a hell of a deal, or is 20 bucks about all the buds are worth?

Pieces of shit. They're slightly better than your average pack-ins, but they're still notably of pack-in quality, imho.

They are notable only for their color. At 20 bucks, you're not getting ripped off, assuming you don't have any other earbuds and aren't looking for a top tier product.

Seriously, they're a status icon. If you're even remotely interested in sound quality, then these buds are NOT for you.

The white wire also gets gray and dirty surprisingly quickly.

Well, they're not the best earphones ever. But they're alright.

I bought an iPod remote for $40 and it came with the same earphones (way to rip us off, Apple).

If helping your friend is important, then by all means by them but there are better options out there.

they are alright, but im no audiophile so im probably not the best guy to ask. Mine already seem to be starting to crap out though. Im starting to hear a little clicking in the right side that can get kinda annoying, and they are only like 6 months old, so the quality could be questionable.

They were really nice until I broke them. Never, EVER pull on cords. And always use the lil' foams that come with them.

I would just add another 20 and a pair of high-quality Sony earbuds. The ones with noise-reduction and extra bassy lovin'.

I couldn't stand using the earbuds that came with them, I'm with Aplha on this $20.oo is too much, $10.00 is more reasonable.

Earbuds are generally too big anyway, I mean what's up with manufacturers making these things so large and thinking ANYONE can actually fit these bulky things inside an earcanal ?

I got the Apple in-ears for Christmas today and they suck :(

Their bass is non-existant unless you hold them in your ears with your fingers. The fall out of your ears like nobody's business. I'm returning them and getting Sony's similar model, which are supposed to be very good.

I don't have an iPod and I haven't really used them, but I did want to note that if they're anything like Apple's In-Ear Headphones, they probably blow. Those headphones are slightly different in that they have a plastic covering (that come in 3 sizes for comfort) that channels the sound into your ear rather than simply being padded over. They're comfortable to wear, until you start playing music, at which point the complete lack of bass and sound balance gives you a blistering headache.

Anandtech did a comparison of in-ear headphones a way back, and it seems that Sony brand headphones generally have more bass and powerful drivers to give you a more well-rounded sound. I haven't done too much digging into headphones, but I'd start there if you're looking to buy a new pair of headphones.

I've been thinking about getting an iPod, but I'm curious as to how well it handles jogging and such? Does it skip easily? I'd assume it wouldn't be good for it, since it uses a hard drive and all.

You should get the ones I have that you call shit. They don't look as nice, but they're super comfortable and sound great.

I got my girlfriend a Mini for X-mas. Is there any way to not have songs on your IPod other than deleting them from the library?

Dock your iPod, and then make sure you have it set to manual song management.

turn off itunes automatic syncing with the ipod

Thanks for the info, looks like I won't be picking those up. I didn't really want to be caught wearing those in public anyway; it would be doing my iRiver an injustice. Since they're crap anyway, all the more reason.

I don't really want to spend all that much since I usually end up ruining any in-ears that I use (they always get to the point where you have to position it just right in the jack to get both sides working), and it'd be a shame to ruin something expensive.

So Sony's the way to go, then? I'll just pop over to Circuit City next chance I get, then, and pick up a cheap pair.

Well, I don't think the iPod skips since there's no disc spinning or laser reading. I might be wrong, but its unlikely.

doesn't skip.

yeah.. My ipod earplugs were ruined when I stepped on the left earplug. Now a huge debate

a) buy new ipod (and get new earplugs cause the ones that retail are so ridiculously overpriced)

b) buy new ipod earplugs (?)

c) buy new now ipod earplugs

I'm going to go with a) since I want to upgrade anyway

What's the difference between b and c?

Apple only sells new earphones with the iPod remote for $40. So if you want to upgrade, that's cool.

Or you could do it the EASY way. Keep auto-sync on and turn on the "sync only checked songs." Uncheck the songs you don't want on it.

Also, as for my new apple in-ears, I just orered a set of replacement caps for some Sony EX71's. I've heard they fit over the Apple phones and solve all the problems with the apple ones.

The Apple In-Ears are actually an "improved" model of the iPod packin earbuds. They are both very low end devices that are decent only as pack-ins. No one should actually BUY them and expect a quality set of 'phones.
