Anyone REALLY use a PC Tv Tuner

I use a low end tv tuner (ATI Tv Wonder) to play some games. If I'm watching TV on it I'll use D-Scaler.. I may even use D-Scaler when I want to make sure the game is pretty. But when timing counts (as in most games) then I have to rely on the ATI TV program. D-Scaler uses too much of my processor which cuts down on the frames per second.

What CPU do you have?

I have a Win-TV GO card and use DScaler and the built in software, WinTV2000. I use WinTV to record stuff while DScaler provides clearer picture and such. I only have a simply antenna hooked up so I can watch LOST every wednesday.

i have a hauppauge WinTV card and use DScaler as well. anyone who uses a tv tuner card should use dscaler. while it lacks an intuitive recording capability, it offers by far the best image quality available.

i only utilize the noise reduction filters (both temporal and gradual) and my 2000+ AMD averages between 25-30% CPU usage with DScaler on.

I got a low end ATi TV tuner and it sucks for games. Iceman...do you have a problem with the game moving a second later after inputting controls? There is a delay in sending the info over composite cables to the card. I thought I had something like a filter going on...but I don't think so (after looking at all the settings). I'd love to record some game footage of stuff on it...but I can't when I can't control the game appropriately. :P

As for recording games while playing, I used to have a splitter for my Red/White/Yellow cables going from my PS2 to ATI TV Wonder Pro and to my TV. I'd play the game on the TV while the PC is recording it. It worked pretty well, just a bunch of extra cables you have to have to do it. :p

That sounds like a good solution. I think the reason why I didn't think of that was because at the time I wanted to, I didn't have a TV. But I do now...thanks Miguel!

that's basically what it feels like. But I find that I get a better response time when I'm not using Dscaler.

I use an old ATI TV Wonder with DScaler to play video games (pretty much the same as Iceman). I only have a 1GHz CPU so I can't use any filters, but it looks good enough and I don't notice much of a delay.

I use a Sapphire Theatrix 550 Pro (uses the Ati Theater 550 Pro Chip). Hardware-Accelerated recording, captures audio digitally (eliminates the chance of out-of-sync audio/video), fm tuner. I use GB-PVR which a free PVR app because the included Cyberlink PoweCinema sucks.

FusionHDTV...great card and high=def to boot. It has built in software to handle any file conversions as needed.. It'll timeshift (although I have never tried that), unlimited recording, and did I mention the High-Def part?

The only problem is that you better have a good CPU. Its a software-based decoding solution so it's going to rely on what you got under the hood. I've got a AthlonXP 2800+ with a 9700 pro and it runs like butter!

If you go to their website at www.dvico.com you can download a sample and see for yourself if your PC can handle it. It is also compatible with Media Center PC's.

Yes, I love it. Extremely low CPU Usage when recording allows me to surf and work without problems. The files it records to are MPEG-2 so all u need is a good authoring program to turn them into a DVD-Video. :D

I have a Hauppauage card, as well. Never tried DScaler (haven't had the cable running into the card for about a year). I'll have to try it out once it's hooked up again.

Quality is good?

I have a ATI TV Wonder PCI card which I used to record stuff when I'm not home.
I switched over to a nVidia AGP card and the ATI software refused to work so I stopped using it.
I got some software from my dvd burner that works with it now so I rarely use it.

I was thinking of making a BeyondTV box with an old P3 1.1ghz computer i have as a spare. I was going to get the hauppauge WinTV card, but the crappy computer only has intel integrated graphics and no AGP slot to upgrade. I was only going to use it for SD tv/recording/timeshifting. Think it would work? I think i could use software rendering...?
