I remember this magazine from way back in the day. It was like the computer nerd's dream come true, pictures of hot chix0rz, and a bunch of computer game stuff.

I was trying to remember if they actually did their own photoshoots, though. Because I remember that they actually got Jennifer Love Hewitt in one of their issues, but I can't imagine her doing a photoshoot just for PCXL.

heh, I remember one issue where they made up their own games and they had things like "US/Mexico Border Patrol" and "Avoid Phil Hartman's Wife".

Come to think of it, I don't think I ever actually bought any. This was back in the day before all these free mag subscriptions started showing up everywhere. One of my friends worked at a Gamestop or EB, and they let the employees take the out of date magazines instead of throw them out. Sure, they were a month behind, but I had piles and piles of free magazines, some with CDs.

Still have all the issues. Including the preview issue. Even signed up for PCXL.com when it "came back". :lol

Every now and then I'll read a back issue. Yeah looking at hot women is nice, but for me the humour was the main draw. The reviews were pretty damn good too, like when Rob Smith spent so long talking about how Daikatana would rock ("Why? Because it has to.") they gave him the Gold Crackpipe award in the review for it since he was so delusional for so long.

It was a good magazine, coming right about the time when I was getting sick of PC Gamer.

Speaking of PCG, I remember when they would routinely put out 400 page issues ('round '96-98) but by the time PCXL was out, PCG was down to less than 200 and lower per issue.

And Conconut Monkey wasn't fucking funny.

And they had the crashinest demo discs ever.


Threw all my mags away two years ago. They were 85% preview\hype fluff and that's not fun to read after the game earned a 6.8.



Edit: Back before most had broadband, the fact that each PCG demo disc (from a certain point on) contained a database which listed what demos and patches where on which disc, was very cool... When the damn thing didn't crash.
