Anyone still play the 3DS?

Love it and still play it, although you lost me when you said you disable the 3D effect... so sad

That's the main miracle of the system for me that makes it stand out. To this day it's the best small handheld on the market IMO, because nothing else has that effect. It turns "I'm looking at a small screen" immediately into "I'm looking through a small window into a larger diorama or world behind it," total game changer. I'd rather have a 3D screen at the 3DS resolution than a 720p+ handheld display, no question.
I need to try it out

I had a 3DS before, but I sold it.

Now I have DSi LL and New 3DS LL coming from Japan and I'm planning to install CFW.

Still have it, but haven't played it in over a year. Should probably check it to make sure the battery isn't about to explode.

I played through Zelda a Link Between Worlds on my 'new' 3ds xl for a second time recently and it was glorious. The more stable 3d on the newer model really made the 3d work better than when I originally played it.

Yep, still as good as it ever was.
The 3D on the New3DS models is great. Really adds to the experience in a lot of games.

I've got 12 3DSes. Yes, I have TWELVE of them. Don't ask me why, it's probably not worth explaining.

But for some reason, I have a favorite that I haven't been able to find for like a year. So I've been actually kind of jonesing to play 3DS lately, but I want to find my primary one, and I truly can't be arsed to set up one of my other ones with my account and all the games and shit.
Do you repair them by any chance? I have around the same number, all bought as spares and repairs which I have fixed up myself.

Keep meaning to sell them on but haven't got around to it yet. I don't feel the need to part with them for some reason.

I do, especially when I travel I throw it in my briefcase and go. It's compact and battery lasts forever (I replaced my original New 3DS battery with a larger, longer lasting battery) while waiting at an airport or in a plane.

I psyched myself out. I traded in my DS Lite with a promo to get the OOT 3DS. But the vanilla 3DS doesn't feel that good in the hand, and the small touch screen/bad battery is meh. I did use it to play DS games, but feel bad because I think I'd play more if I just kept a regular old DS lite.

Meanwhile, I put off playing some 3DS games because I really wanted an XL. But never got around to it. So I just use 3DS to play a couple DS/3DS games here and there and honestly really missed out in the end. Best example is that I own ALBW, but STILL haven't played it because I wanted to save the experience for a bigger screen. It just got buried. It's certifiably dumb.

There's a part of me that still wants the XL, yet here we are in Switch 2 land. I waited too long.

It's 2025 but the 3DS is still an excellent console.

I have the "new" 3DS XL - the last iteration. Over the years, I got pretty much all the iterations but then sold the older one when I got the new one.

I recently brushed it off to play a bit of Fantasy Life, pending the release of the new Fantasy Life game in late May. Then I started a second playthrough of Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker ("DS2"). Devil Survivor Overclocked ("DS1") is one of my favorite games ever. DS2 has more polished presentation and a bit better game mechanics, but trails DS1 is atmosphere and story. Still a great game though. Fully voice-acted which is impressive.

The form factor of the "new" 3DS is excellent. I like the clamshell. It's light. It's almost pocketable. The battery lasts a long time. The screens are nice. No 3D gimmick which I like to avoid so I don't go cross-eyed. The engine under the hood is a bit more powerful than the previous iterations, so it runs 3DS games snappily. The two screens work well in the kinds of games I like (SRPG's in particular).

My interest in video games is rather niche and the 3DS has a lot of games that interest me (turn-based SRPG's and JRPG's).

A while back I tried playing Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII on my Playstation Portable, but sadly the battery had bulged. I guess at some point the battery will leak/bulge in my 3DS and kill it.
3ds is absolute garbage, hates that console on 2014 and still hate it now. The Switch 1 was such a massive upgrade it's crazy. Look at Zelda on 3ds and compare to the Switch 1 Botw and ToK, 3ds doesn't compare. The 3ds was basically a DS1.5, the real technological leap happened with the Switch.

But yea it has good games, I enjoy SMT4 and SMT4A even tho they look like Super Nintendo games compared to SMT5 on Switch 1.

About 8 or 9 years back a now ex-friend who I was letting stay in my apartment stole my 3DS and sold it, wouldn't realize he did that until I was moving out of my apartment and couldn't find it.

Recently I bought another one and hacked and having a great time with it.

There were many games I missed out on and am getting a chance to play now. Some I had physically that the asshat stole but was able to get them back.

Put over 100 hours in Resident Evil: Revelations again. Capcom did an amazing job with the 3DS.

If there is a game you never got to play, hack your 3DS, it's incredibly easy, and download the app H-Shop
Oh hey, 3DS thread

My friend yesterday boot his 3DS, and this sparks some interest to replay the 3ds games.

I once interested in labyrinth rpg which made by konami, and they got fan translation few years ago. I think its the time to play dungeon crawler once more.

The game is interesting as we are playing as parties of gamers playing games in multiplayer and suddenly their screen is hacked by the otherworldly dungeon. And the girl is asking for help to restore the dungeon. Unfortunately konami did not take it overseas.

What was this game called? I remember seeing screenshots but obviously couldn't play it as it didn't get a US release.

Got the 2DS XL after my Switch, played Super Mario 3D Land on it, loved it (a bit difficult without the 3D though), tried the Ocarina of Time remake, didn't like it (OTT in general, not the remake part of it, it was a faithful remake), so I sold it

Beyond Labyrinth~

Yes it's the best Nintendo handheld. And you can play all the DS games on it (even if I prefer to play them on my DS XL because of the screen).

Currently replaying Pullblox. I love that puzzle game. And I still maintain the best Donkey Kong Country Returns is on 3DS thanks to the 3D.

Also Cave Story 3D is the best way to play that game. I am ready to die on this hill...

Still have the console yes, but I give more time to the DSi XL. Games aged better, they were less 3D so they had cleaner picture and 60fps framerate. A lot of 3DS games struggle in 3D.

My wife and I use it occasionally. I pick up Ultra Moon here and there, she plays the Ocarina of Time port. Would have loved it as a kid but I think we enjoy the couch and the TV these days.

Yup. I just broke mine out the other day. the 3D in Mario 3D World and Link Between Worlds is very very good. Oh, and Luigi's Mansion. I have a EU Black New Nintendo 3DS and a US Pokemon New Nintendo 3DS. The Pokemon one is worth quite a bit.

My 3DS started giving me a little shock when I'd play it, and then it shorted out. It was a pretty maroon one. 🫡

Absolutely. Largely because the Atlus support for the system was insanely good.(even if many are improved DS games). The Fire Emblem games are great, and I prefer Days of Ruin over prior Advance Wars games.(love that it has DS backwards compatibility)

Wow, I thought I had a few machines (think I've got 8 of them).
Love the 3DS (and DS), my 3ds physical collection is at 288 games, with 61 I still want to add.

So many unique gaming experiences to be had on there. Also I really miss streetpass.

Nah, I just bought four Japanese 3DSes when they came out to play Daigasso Band Bros with people, since the 3DS was region locked.

Then I acquired a couple Japanese New 3DSes when the Smash 4 versions came out.

And I think I have 6 or 7 US 3DSes. Mostly because I wanted to buy the new form factor anytime it came out, for collection purposes mostly. So New 3DS, New XL, 2DS, 2DS XL, and I got a limited Zelda one just cause I liked the design.

I sort of have a problem when it comes to buying handhelds. I probably have ~20 various Game Boys. But it's also the only video game thing I really "collect".

Yeah. It has DQ8 (and DQ9 via BC).
My understanding is that 3DS can play every single DQ game? DQ 1 through 6 via BC, 7 and 8 got released on it, 9 via BC, 10 got a release on it, and 11 got a release on it (exclusively in Japan, but still)

I thought my 60-70 physical 3DS library was big until seeing this. Both 7th Dragon and Stella Glow are criminally underrated. Two of my favorites on the system.

Yep, both are pretty great. Atlus support overall was phenomenal for the platform.

I also got about 70-80 DS/3DS physical games altogether, mostly RPGs and have 2 x DSi XL and 2 New 3DS XL.

Yeah. The 3DS is the ultimate DQ machine, essentially.

Another handheld thread that makes me want a real hand held experience with unique games. Sadly miss this. So sick of the push for PC hand helds.

Last game I played was Persona Q2, but I love my green Yoshi 3Ds.

I hated the DS, To me it was a sub-N64 with a sub-SNES fisher price quality sound chip. It looked very bad next to the PSP so I skipped it. So while the 3DS didn't go very far ahead of the PSP in term of power, it was finally an acceptable 3D quality handheld from Nintendo. Not to mention Nintendo and 3rd party had time to figure how to use the touch screen and dual screen not for gimmicks but for a better gameplay interfaces. I still have my XL and regularly boot it up again.

Honestly wish they'd just put Luigi's Mansion 1 HD, Ocarina of Time 3D, Majora's Mask 3D, Samus Returns, Super Mario 3D Land, & A Link Between Worlds on Switch and I could sell all my DS & 3DS shit. Looks like crap and hardware is atrocious

At this time I still own:

2DS
New 2DS XL
3DS XL
~80 complete physical games, ~30 digital 3DS games, 90% of which I've not even booted yet.

My handheld "backlog" goes back to the original Game Boy, so yeah, I still play the 3DS.

I'm here since the launch of the OG 3DS, aqua blue.
Currently holding on to my n3DS with Majora Mask covers. Love the little thing. One can have a life time of gaming on the DS+3DS library and once you softmod the little bastard it becomes the ultimate Nintendo handheld.

DS games with widescreen hacks are 😗👌

It's the only place I can play a perfect M2 port of Thunder Force 3 in 3D
I'm still pretty butthurt that we never got a release of this (& Alien Syndrome) domestically! I have had my eye on the import cart forever but it's like a couple hundred bucks, kinda rich for my blood.

Still love the 3DS, I have the OG model with it's kinda janky 3D and very uncomfortable ergonomic design (which means I get pretty tired of playing it after about 15-20min no matter what!) But it is a great little system and I have a ton of great games for it, still a decent little backlog actually. I completely understand why (and don't disagree with) their closing of the eShop, but I would lie if I said it doesn't still bum me out from time to time. It was a pretty great experience all things concerned, and I am sure I would have continued picking up plenty of games over time.

Hopefully we see a return to some kind of legit 3D handheld in the future, I am not holding my breath though.

Got the original Ocarina of Time black 3ds then got the Majora New 3DS XL.
Have been slowly making my way through Layton Vs Ace Attorney which I pick up and play occasionally.

Bought two New 3DS XL and some games (missed the whole generation) which I don't really plan to play. However I'm looking for the Etrian Odyssey and the Persona Q games and any other dungeon crawler that hasn't been ported to Switch yet, those I'll very likely play.

I originally bought my 3DS to play Pokemon Sun. Huge mistake lol. Largely forgot about the console for years until remembering I had it at the beginning of last year. Bought a grip for it and played through DQ8, A Link Between Worlds, and Fire Emblem: Awakening so far. All fantastic and I loved them greatly. Currently playing through Stella Glow and probably Bravely Default after that.

I enjoyed my 3DS XL while I had it. The street pass feature was surprisingly addicting too. I made it a routine to drive through different parking lots like Home Depot for hits. At some point I collected all the hats and eventually made it through all the street pass games. After that I traded it in and used the credit for an xbox elite controller. I got excellent use of my 3DS and then I got excellent use out of the controller. Was a good time. My favorite games played on the 3DS XL were OoT, Fantasy Life, Zelda: Link Between Worlds, Mario 3D Land, Animal Crossing New Leaf, and the Street Pass games. Mario Kart 7 was just so so and same with Street Fighter IV.

I still play with my 3DS XL, specially Mario Kart 7, Donkey Kong Kong Returns 3D and DS games, specially New Super Mario Bros. Gonna install it again MGS3. Also, i´ve had (and sold) launch model 3DS, like in 2012/13 and also, 6 years ago, a hacked New 3DS XL, in which i even had the Super Mario 64 Render 96 (i miss it), and now they´re as expensive as a Switch Lite.

I have a New 3DS" around here somwhere. Gonna play Majoras Mask 3D and Dragon Quest 8 at some point for sure.
It's just so many new games coming out, it's hard to find time for it.

currently wrapping up Metroid II on an original brick Game Boy while also playing the remake on the 3DS in parallel... so I'm right with you

It's good times. I've beaten the GB version of Metroid II twice, once via original green and black, and once using the DX patch: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/175/

I am presently playing through Final Fantasy Adventure for the first time ever. I'm about halfway through it now, using the DX patch: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/8673/

Original GB is immortal, still receiving new games to the present day via itch.io

I still always bring my N3DS with me on vacations. I've been playing Kirby Robobot and Fire Emblem over the past week and I don't feel like I'm playing something old or outmoded.

I always intended to get a Switch once I was 'finished' with the 3DS but I'm still having my fun with it.
