Anyone still play the 3DS?

Sadly the 3DS catalogue is a black hole to me, never even held one. I'm patiently waiting for someone to manufacture a retro handheld with dual screens, then I'm going to be all over it starting with SMT IV.

The last I played was the Zero Escape/999 trilogy back in 2020 during the COVID lockdowns. I've got mine loaded up with SNES games, too.

Thing is, I don't travel or find myself in situations where a handheld would come in...handy, so I don't use it too often.

Cool little system. Would've loved to have had one as a kid.

I loved the library, but hated the system itself. I don't know if it was the form factor or just the beginnings of arthritis kicking in, but it was always uncomfortable to hold.

incredibly good console, especially with how easy it is to hack it now. entire NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, and 3DS library downloadable with QR codes. throw in things like pokemon rom hacks, etc., and it just keeps giving. was playing emerald seaglass the other day, was magical.

I get a couple of Mario Kart7 sessions in every once in a while. Then there's The Mario and Luigi game Dream Team I keep telling myself to play...one day.

It would be cool if we got a Switch 2 Ultralite this time around. Something with a clamshell and which is actually pocketable.

a lot actually, I replayed Ocarina of Time not so long ago, and I still keep my Animal Crossing town up nice and tidy

Yep. Still love that squeaky hinged machine.
It's the only portable Nintendo console I bought at launch (minus Switch) and the whole family still uses it occasionally.

With a New 3DS XL, RE: Revelations is still best played on the 3DS for me. Looks great considering the system its on and the 3D is top-notch.

Yeah it was a great system, and I still play it.

It's my....

how do I...

...When it's time for...number 2... that's 3DS time.

Currently working slowly through Fire Emblem Fates alternate path. When I don't feel like playing that I usually play the OG Warioware (total classic) which I got for being a 3DS ambassador.

There were some absolute gems on the system. The rhythm heaven game is one of the best, and Shadows of Valentia is an amazing Fire Emblem, my favourite in the whole series.

I have a New Nintendo 3DS that I pull out from time-to-time. I want to give Radiant Historia remake a shot because the OG on DS was one of the greatest jRPGs of all time. Homebrew also breathes new life into the 3DS and helps bring it up to modern standards.

The New 3DS is quite powerful, with a much better CPU and more RAM than even the Wii.

I've played A Link to the Past on the 3DS for about two months now, almost finished it for the first time ever. I'm glad I bought a bunch of SNES/NES games before Nintendo put it behind a subscription wall.

Couldn't decide whether to take my Retroid 3+ or 3DS on an upcoming long flight.
I have Steam Deck and Switch OG as options too, but considering I usually just end up show-binging I wanted something that takes less room, in case I never touch it.

So loaded up my N3DS earlier and did a quick tour, tried a few games out that I need to finish on there (lots).

Seeing the dates on the save files depressed me... :messenger_downcast_sweat:

The 3D is still really impressive in OoT and Majoras remaster. Why the hell didn't they port those to Switch anyway?

Such a great handheld.

Tons of great games on the 3DS, including tons of games I haven't gotten around to.

Anyone else stop and think they'll be dead before they get a chance to play even a fraction of the good games out there? I play a lot of games, but my backlog grows more every year and that backlog doesn't even include 1/20th of the games out there I want to play but haven't gotten around to buying yet.

I know I'm in the minority, but man do I love the 3Day feature of the New 3DS. It adds some magic to the otherwise boring graphics, especially in games like ACNL. Unfortunately, mine is broken. Maybe I'll try to get a used one if I find it for a reasonable price.

Bought a ayn thor and super excited to properly play some 3ds games i missed out on and some I want to replay. First thing I plan on playing is a link between worlds followed by one of the later pokemon releases.

Let me know how the bottom screen input delay is. I hear conflicting opinions: some claim it's barely noticable, other call it trash due to the lag

No. Sold my 3DS a few years after the Switch came out, for the same reason i sold my WiiU. There were never any cheap backup units available and i didn't trust the hardware. Had a great lineup though and i hope Nintendo keeps bringing 3DS games to the Switch. Luigis Mansion 2 was fantastic.

Still have one 2ds blue and one 2ds xl pikachu both in mint condition.

Always bring one while on holidays when I don't feel comfortable using the switch 2.

They are not modded but I have a big selection of games (all Pokémon for ds, Zelda ocarina, majora and link between worlds and several fire emblem....plus other games.

So yes I of use occasionally.

I really have to play Dragon Quest 8 and Zelda Majoras Mask on the 3ds.
I love the 3DS.
Both are horrible versions of their original games though. DQ8s compressed music is horrible to listen to, MM just plays horrible slowly and its just no fun at all playing as Zora Link.

I use my 3DS from time to time if I get a nostalgia itch. And it's great for playing all my 3DS, DS and GBA games on it, I love the clamshell design and the build quality of my N3DSXL.

Lately I've been playing Kid Icarus Uprising on it... so good, a perfect little game that feel fantastic with the 3D.

I've had the game since launch but for some reason, I never finished the campaign so I've started over to enjoy from scratch.

3DS is still my favorite handheld, the stereographic screen makes it even better than using a Switch or steam deck IMO. I wish they still released games for it and made a new revision.

So true, you know what would have catapulted the 3DS as the greatest handheld ever? If Rockstar would have released a successor to GTA Chinatown Wars (DS) on the 3DS.

I still have my New 3DS XL and I fire up some Atlus RPG or DQ or whatnot quite often.

But now with Thor coming I can't wait to see improved res. Yeah, I can get that on PC / PC Handheld, but playing the game on dual screen box just seems more proper!

But now with Thor coming
Hadn't heard of Thor so I looked it up... damn, you had my hopes up that it would be a new stereographic-screen device, but it's just a dual screen.

I find it utterly depressing that there is nothing like the Steam Deck or Switch on the market today at all with a true glasses-free stereographic screen. That should be the future. It's so awful that everyone gave up on 3D. Have stereo vision on a handheld would be better than any GPU or resolution bumps or OLED screens to me, but it just isn't out there to buy.

Yes because its the best Nintendo handheld to date. It's better than the switch 1 and way better than the switch 2.

It has actual games designed to be played in handheld in short bursts. Its only flaw is that it's uncomfortable to hold for extended periods of time.

Love the 3DS, and yes I still play it. Normally it is some combination of Pokemon, Professor Layton, Atlus games or Fire Emblem. Starting to feel pings of arthritis with the switch, so I am glad to still have my smaller handhelds (3DS, Vita) in working conditions.

The 3DS and it's 3D effects screen was pretty cool but didn't really have the wide appeal that Nintendo hoped for. Lots of people it gave them headaches. Everyone I knew IRL just turned the slider all the way down after playing with it for about an hour. Thankfully it wasn't a hard requirement to have your game be in 3D or the system wouldn't have gotten any traction with developers. Its use was so niche that Nintendo themselves even gave up on it later in the console's lifecycle, the juice just wasn't worth the squeeze.

I'll agree that when it did work, it was pretty cool.

Yes I still use it. I recently played through Hotel Dusk again(it's a DS game but it doesn't matter) and I replayed SMT: Soul Hackers . And I plan to play through The Last Window: Secret Of Cape West(Hotel Dusk Sequel) later this year. 3DS is still a fantastic little system.

Never heard of that, looks fantastic... sure wish it was cheaper.
Yeah, it's absurdly expensive, but hopefully they stick with the tech and and it gets a revision or three over the coming years. I'm not holding out hope for anyone else even attempting this, so it's probably our only shot.

I'd love to see them do an Android version, for instance. Something with a Snapdragon Elite the size of an Ayn Odin Portal with a glassless 3D screen and the ability add a second screen attachment(on the bottom)would be an endgame device for me, personally.

No. It was fun while it lasted but ...ran its course.

3d was cool after the new hardware improved it. But ...even then...I could take it or leave it. The effect wears off. And there's always a tradeoff to 3d. It's harder on the eyes/brain and requires more processing power.

And I didn't really enjoy playing games on a tiny screen much especially as they got to be more involved. The 2 screen thing was cool and fun in many cases, but overall do we need 2 screens? No.

And then the controls. The c-stick was rather horrible.

Overall...I'd rather play the games on the tv with bigger controls these days. I don't mind playing games on the S2 handheld either as the screen bigger.

I do have some nostalgia for simpler 2d games. IF they made a 3d Gameboy or just an 'advanced' Gameboy... with simpler 2d/2.5d games way off in the future that could be attractive.

Same here, I haven't really made a dent in my 3DS backlog yet but I'm planning to do so soon. There are a few carts I own new that may be dead due to the flash degrading, so I'm gonna try and at least start them soon. I always mean to do so, but there is so little time and the last couple years have been big for me in terms of new releases.

I tried playing Majora's Mask 3D but I find the circle pad a terrible substitute for an analog stick. 3D games just don't seem to play well on it, I mostly play dpad controlled games. Is DQ8 really that bad aside from the music? It didn't seem too different from the PS2 version.

No, aside the music and the censored character outfits it's playable.

well, just yesterday i was thinking about either going through innocent sin & eternal punishment on the vita, or smt IV on the 3ds. still undecided...
