Anyone still play the 3DS?

Yeah, it's absurdly expensive, but hopefully they stick with the tech and and it gets a revision or three over the coming years. I'm not holding out hope for anyone else even attempting this, so it's probably our only shot.

I'd love to see them do an Android version, for instance. Something with a Snapdragon Elite the size of an Ayn Odin Portal with a glassless 3D screen and the ability add a second screen attachment(on the bottom)would be an endgame device for me, personally.
Android dual screen device with the top screen having 3D effect would be amazing. It would also cost an arm and a leg I am thinking.

Yeah, not sure what the pricing on these screens actually is, but it couldn't be THAT much more, right? $100 more?
Most of these devices (including the AYN Thor) use either recycled cell phone screens or have their screens made in the same factories as the cell phone screen and use the same die and assembly. Since there aren't any mainstream phones using this tech (that I'm aware of) there'd be a pretty significant amount they'd have to put into design, R&D, die charges, tooling costs, etc. that they don't have to do on other devices when a company like Samsung is footing the bill anyway.

Realistically, these devices are all "small batch" electronics. If Nintendo was making 3DS systems again then yeah $50-$100 "extra" to make the screen stereoscopic would probably be about right for that kind of volume. If it's a random Chinese handheld company doing it, easily going to press that figure up into the several hundred dollar range. In fact, I'd say that one that got posted last page that's $1600 with a 10.5-inch 3D screen - that screen by itself probably costs them at least $400 to manufacture on its own when you factor in all the upfront costs.

Right, yeah I posted that. There are lots of companies making these kinds of panels, but they are all quite large, in fact that OneX screen is the smallest I can find. The prices for the large monitors are not that bad, so I was placing the BOM lower, but yeah unless Samsung or whoever makes a 7-8" screen it will probably be pricey.

But even still, putting say, a $250 screen in an SD Elite platform would still be in the $500-600 price range, and I'm fine with that.

The new 3ds small one still has the best fucking screen to play snes games.
Those scanlines are natural i love it!

The overall market has to be tiny for this though. Literally "there are dozens of us, dozens" gif.

Been playing the 3rd storyline of Fire Emblem Fates, Revelation, where you combine both nations and have them intermarry. And I've been meticulously crafting perfect children now that I understand the stat inheritance much better than when I played the first 2 paths.

But sometimes you just like a character cause they're cool or funny or cute and it throws everything off. I really like Setsuna, the airheaded girl who keeps falling into holes everywhere she goes, so I spent way too much time tinkering on her build.

You can only get 1 great lord, a sword/lance speedster seal based on Lucina from Awakening, so I was going to give it to Subaki's daughter Caeldori. I even got Mozu as her mother so she can inherit the "aptitude" skill for a stat boost. But now it's time to push the button, I really wanna give great lord to Hana. She's been spending time leveling as a general so she can bulk up a bit and inherit pavise to make up for her fragility. Now shes ready to go back to swordmaster, but nobody can touch Ryoma in the class, so I feel like I wanna turn Hana into the great lord.

I could seriously play 3DS for another 3 years or more. Fire Emblem Engage was awful in the characters and story department, but what they did with builds in that game was actually really cool. And 3 houses was awesome. Hopefully this next one they're cooking up, fortune's weave, will be another straight banger

Nah, I couldn't wait to be done with that era of Nintendo. Both the DS and 3DS had phenomenal game catalogs, but I begrudgingly used the hardware the entire time.

Thankfully Nintendo went back to a single nice screen design without a lot of nonsense.

I dearly love Fire Emblem Echoes - Shadows of Valentia on the 3DS. It is one of my favourite games. I played it twice back-to-back (the final battle was epic and I had plans to use to another cast in the final battle, so decided to start from scratch for the new team). It was ahead of its time, as some of the cast swung the other way (so to speak) and that was no big deal.

I couldn't get into the FE Fates 3DS games. I like anime but there was too much anime cringe. On the other hand I actually enjoyed Fire Emblem Engage, but wasn't sold on the hub area.

I haven't played Fire Emblem Three Houses because I'm not sure about the Persona influence in FE:3H. I like my FE to be classic FE, without too much running-around social fluff between battles. I'd rather by futzing around in menus adjusting my load out for the next battle, and min-maxing my team, than chatting up waifus/husbandos.

Seems to be a bit of a resurgence in 3DS interest in general. Maybe Analogue should make a new FPGA console for DS and 3DS. But seriously it just goes to show their is money to be made on lower scale systems and game development, long as good software is there. There is life in a true handheld market with small budget games.

use my old one from time to time. glassless 3d is actually one of the better gimmicks they did over the years, its still pretty impressive effect.
i have one of the originals though, and screen is stupidly tiny on it.
would love to have an ayn thor3d or something, but probably will not ever happen, it'd be a niche of a niche market

FPGA for 3DS would be pricey as heck. Something like Ayn Thor or the Ayaneo device (and the rumored Retroid) is the best approach for now. And 3D screens are too much $$$.

Agreed Echoes is also my favourite of all time. 3 houses is great but it does lean into school sim, although there's less "social link" stuff than you may be thinking compared to Awakening or fates, which are very much about the relationships and child inheritance aspects. The school sim is more a part of the character/class building than boyfriend/girlfriend hookups. But it's still very anime regardless. Overall I'd say 3 houses is less anime/cringe than engage and less dating sim than awakening/fates so it might still be worth trying
