Aonuma told Swedish magazine Reset that the gameplay in Wind Waker was "dull", admitting that he was in a bit of a hurry when it came to working on the triforce piece hunt.

"At the end of the production we fought against the clock and there were parts that I was forced to approve even though it didn't feel complete," he said.

"I apologise that we didn't fix the triforce hunt at the end of the game. It was slow and dull."

Am I the only person who didn't hate the triforce bit? :( I've never understood why everyone complains about it so much

Yeah I didn't have a huge problem with the triforce section. I heard it was much worse in the Japanese version This is probably what he's referring to.

I didn't mind it, but I had already found over half the pieces by exploring by the time the actual quest rolled around.

It would have been cooler if the triforce collect-a-thon was an actual dungeon, perhaps a second part of the God temple. It would have been a lot cooler then getting tingle to translate a map for you. :lol

Where there were apparently two dungeons that had to be cut due to time constraints.

it would have been cool if Jabun didn't simply give you the blue stone (can't remember its name in WW), but you had to go through a dungeon for it (like the first two stones) and if they had three other dungeons, each dedicated to one of the pieces of the triforce (power, wisdom, and courage. Not this 8-piece hunt crap)

Yeah. 9 dungeons + Forsaken Fortress + Ganon's Tower.

:)

All you people complaining about the ugly screenshots, need to get your head out your *** and watch the game in motion.

The GC does horrible image captures, you would think on GAF that would be common knowledge.

I've seen videos of the game in motion. The textures, especially on the ground, are horrible.

As rushed as that part did seem, the end more then made up for it (it's my favorite ending this gen). Also, the triforce part took a grand total of about 35 minutes to complete, so it wasn't that bad..

GAF is becoming pathetic. This is probably the only place where you'll find people bashing the new Zelda. :lol

Welcome to the new Gamefaqs

I'm sure you knew it well, junior gaming-fuhrer.

littlewig: visit TNL, where all Nintendo products and supporters get the bashing they deserve.

Besides, Zelda: Toilet Paper will not be the best game of this generation, no matter how many gamerankings.com links you provide to argue to the contrary.

From that interview, it sounds like they're really pushing TP to be one of the definitive Zelda experiences. I hated the empty hub overworld of OoT, and thought the size of the WW overworld was fantastic... except that it was all water. Had it been land, I would've been one happy camper. I am glad that they upped the number of dungeons though, but I hope they don't revert back to the "hub" mentality. A 3D version of the LTTP Overworld (where dungeons are placed sporadically, or hidden in a vast overworld) would be perfect.

My last complaint about WW was the number of items seemed reeeeeeally small, considering that all but a few items were repeats of items in past games, or modifications of some sort. I like the approach that they're taking with TP with where you don't see a slot for an item until you get it.

Can't wait. :)

GTA SA is one of the best, STFU!

I didnt mind the triforce hunt, until i realised i had to collect 8 of fucking pieces. Argh!

I already own San Andreas, thanks
Your average Nintendo fan isn't old enough to buy San Andreas with its new ESRB rating, so take it easy on 'em. ;P

Seriously though, I'd agree with his comments, that part of the game really killed it for me as an all time classic. The best Zeldas always felt near perfectly balanced, tweaked, and adjusted to the point where everything just feels as good as it could be. With Wind Waker I felt a lot of "this is really cool, but it could have been better", most of that if they were just given more time.

Here's hoping Twilight Princess makes up for it, well, as much as a really good game needs making up for.

And Metallica (James Hetfield, was it?) said ...And Justice For All was their worst album, and that he (they?) were ashamed of it. In actuality, it's their only masterpiece.

How an artist ranks their own work doesn't mean much to the rest of us.

Jeez, it's pretty funny to see people hate on Zelda for absolutely no reason.

It's a beautiful game. End.

Interesting, that. Funny that Wind Waker was the Zelda game that made me finally realize I don't like Zelda games anymore...that or it really was that fucking boring. No TP for me either.

are you lying

Seriously, WW really has soured me on the series, dunno if it's recoverable. I remember back when I got The Legend of Zelda for Christmas one year, man that shit was magical. Oh well.

Man, some of you are really unforgiving. A franchise spawns a long series of AAA sequels, and now that one has fallen short of the legacy, it's all "NEVER AGAIN!"

Well i consider GTA games fun but too much exposure(Vice City and SA) will make you realize that besides it being a driving game the other aspects are just a bunch of broken mini games slapped together on an engine that constantly rapes the poor ps2........i mean i loved GTA3 but Vice City and San Andreas shouldnt have been released this gen imo.

Boo freakin' hoo. Why do people feel the need to express what no one cares about? It's not recoverable.

Anyway, I think this is the first time I've seen a producer (or director) at Nintendo, admitting their own faults. Which is good.
