Apparently "stepping on jordans in the hood" is a great prank idea

People learn different ways to react to things.. they are also subject to their own emotional fragility and particular anger problems that might stem form something unrelated.

If you can't fathom reacting so strongly then just be thankful you ended up with a generally calm demeanor and/or aren't part of a culture that requires you to react in order to fit in.

I grew up around some people who would socially outcast you for NOT reacting violently to things like this.. also have some anger problems stemming from abuse. It adds up to a very unfortunate reaction SOMETIMES when people mess with me.. I'm not a lit fuse waiting to explode but I can relate to people who are.

I will say that promoting the idea that it's the right reaction I can't agree with. It might be how I'd react, but I wish it wasn't. I think we'd all be better off being more calm and less reactionary and violent.

You don't think there's any difference between discussing a staged video and discussing a real video?

Okay.

I never said not discussing the video, that would mean that I would be condemning all discussion period. I'm talking about wondering whether the video was fake or not.

Whether it was or not, it was stupid, isn't what I'd call a prank, and it wasn't even funny.

I don't see a reason to be fake, unless the guy loves paying people to sock him in the mouth for views.

You know its funny you say that, because in my experiences in NYC if you don't agree in lockstep with your immediate social group "politically", you get branded and shunned and treated differently. Apparently there's a very similar problem with people who move to Portland and are treated like lepers because they don't necessarily agree with the vibe/culture/politics there(this is anecdotal but I can see this as a possibility).

Everyone should watch this. They get called out on how bad it looks that they only show the few people who react badly out of possibly dozens and they say "that's not our intention." Lie much? That directly contradicts what they said earlier about fulfilling viewer requests. Ebro says exactly what I said in an earlier post: why don't they go to different lower-income neighborhoods around the NY area?

I know the general area of Brooklyn where these guys reside and originally made their videos. Both there and within walking distance, there are working-class neighborhoods where young Italian, Russian, Eastern European and light-skinned Arab dudes will gladly give them the violent reactions they seek. But nope! They're traveling to black neighborhoods much farther away on the other side of Brooklyn. They know their content is racist because they go through the extra effort of giving their white Youtube audience what they wanna see: stereotypes about black people come to life. Not Asians, Italians, Irish, etc. They do other general pranks in different areas, but never this specific type of antagonizing a subset of people in the hood.

The one thing missing from the radio interview is calling them out for their staged pranks.

so true at the bolded.

This is like the "film people for no reason" guy but worse.

I would fucking punch this guy. No question. I would not be able to control myself or think about litigation at that point in time. Call it barbaric or animalistic if you want to.

Why is this so difficult for so many people.

Disrespect does not justify violence.

Being baited does not justify violence.

Someone being a douche does not justify violence.

Ever. Under any circumstance.

Stepping on someone foot on purpose is a physical attack. It's not just being disrespected, baited or just being a douche. It's like someone slapping you in the face, hitting you in the back of the head, or kicking you in the butt.

Let's say this wasn't a prank and someone was stepping on your sneaker for real in NYC, this is how it plays out 99.9 percent of the time.

Guys steps on someone's shoe
1. Guy doesn't do anything, turns his cheek.
"Yo pussy, what you gonna do about it you little bitch"
probably gets robbed or get's sucker punched.

Yes in an ideal world non violence is the way to go, but reality is a bitch. Trust me I managed to get through a bunch of these situations without having to fight, but it was pure luck lol.

I'd LOVE for them to do this shit to the Albanian immigrants. Let's see how that would play out.

so true at the bolded.

It starts to get real tiring trying to defend other Republicans, because there are just as many shitty Democrats, a lot of them currently working in city and state levels in NY, not to forget the whole nasty elitism of liberal Democrats who work in financial services and are making filthy incomes. It's a world of hypocrites and snobs in NY.

I would really like to see some of you guys' reactions to being spit on.

"Hey dude...don't do that again, please?"

LMAO, FOR REAL!!!

"excuse me you slashed my tires and broke my windows very deliberately, that wasn't very nice but whatever man don't do that again."

Stepping on someone's shoes on accident is whatever, not a big deal.

Someone going out of their way to disrespect somebody else and their property on purpose is not right at all, especially for personal gain. It's not even about the shoes. fuck all that kumbayah bullshit. How is it wrong to get angry about that? lol,

people saying "just a pair of shoes"

It's not about shoes or anything about that it's much deeper than that, it's about one man respecting another.

The fact a stranger 'disrespects' me by stepping on my shoe does not warrant smacking him in the face imo.

He's a stranger, his actions do not influence me or my life at all.

If a random dude would call me a cunt while I'm walking in a street, I'd laugh too. Again it doesn't affect me at all. I don't turn into a cunt due to a stranger calling me that.

If I would start hitting people for stuff like this I would be no better than them.

In my humble opinion ofc.

You're aware that your foot would also be in the shoe at the time, right

y'all can keep crying about it being unacceptable to respond with violence. but these buffoons deserve to get hurt.

look at this moron
http://youtu.be/bheMTUsi8uo?t=2m20s

it's clearly real. and it was all his fault tbh. i'm glad the injury wasn't worse but it could have been.

all these youtube channels do is deliberately target black people. it's racism for hits. and they're all really successful with the youtube ad revenue from it.

If u had someone stepping on their 3DS' or Luigi plushes, you'd probably see a similar reaction from these gaffers saying "Why they getting mad?"

Well, that's you. But surely you could understand why someone would react differently.

Deliberately stepping on someone's shoe, farting in someone's face, snatching someone's phone, or stealing fuel from their gas tank is blatant disrespect and obviously not a good idea. Getting wrecked for doing these things shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, nor should it be condemned.

I thought we had proof these are fake stunts and the people are paid to overreact.

What you're saying is that for every 1000 times someone has their foot stepped on, 999 times that person will end up robbed or punched in the face.

Stop perpetuating bullshit, people in real life are more moderate. Again, these videos are fake, the reactions are paid. These videos are created to perpetuate the false reality that everyone (in this case black people in "the hood") is a violent thug.

Hell there are probably people on this site who would murder you if you replaced their original game case with a greatest hits version talking about "I don't get the big deal with Jordan's"

The videos are staged, but we don't really have proof of anybody being paid to act this way, at least to my knowledge.

I said they had to be because every dude that assaulted these chumps has their faces revealed and shown. If you're going to slander people for acting a certain way and creating this racial tension that perpetuates stereotypes, I have to think that money was exchanged or waivers were signed.

Gentlemen used to duel to the death for signs and gestures of disrespect.

I think beating someone up because of intentional scuffing someones shoes shows we've evolved as a species.

"Prank"

The "I'm filming it so it's a prank" trend needs to die, before someone does get seriously hurt.

I agree. It's really just being rude for no reason and then filming the understandably pissed off reaction.

I'm going to step this person's foot and see if they get mad. OH MAN TOTALLY PRANKED WOW.

Cringing at people in the topic saying "they're just shoes" when Jordan's are really rare and expensive. Not only that niggas in the hood mostly struggle there entire life and grew up around hostile adults. Jordan's bring people joy, you don't know what people did to buy those Jordan's or how much they spent. If a white person said "Can I step on your shoe?" And I got on Breds and say "No." And they do it anyways. Whew I'm catching a body. Of course white/privileged people wouldn't understand. I would never let someone disrespect me, let alone a white boney kid.
People itt saying "if I respond violently ill he uncivilized and just as worse as him" are the same kids who got bullied in school I reckon.

Don't blame the asshole kids for the system put in place to disenfranchise certain people.

I'd be more upset at Jordan the company creating false hype and releasing artificial demands of limited stock and not running full runs of their sneaker lines. You gonna tell me every single one of those sneakers are rare and expensive to make? I worked at Foot Locker. My former manager referred to sneaker heads as "suckers". He explained that Nike and Jordan artificially run limited runs to collect the most revenue possible and cover their contracts to their players. You're playing premium prices to feed money into Michael Jordan's pocket, only for him to take care of his own interests.

But I mean, obviously Michael Jordan, Phil Knight, and his sneaker company doesn't do any wrong to people, let alone the black community.

Finding that out was the biggest reason I stopped collecting.

Pretty sure everyone who collects Jordan's know that. The black community doesn't care about the fact the shoes could be made for everyone but that's what makes a sneakerhead work out in the end. Your shoes are rare amongst your peers and it makes others envious. Niggas love making others jealous. Fact.

And no fuck those kids they know what they're doing when they walk up to a black person.

Food lovingly prepared by the racist chef to nourish the racist soul. Eat up boys and ".... just look at those animals."

You'd be surprised at most heads who don't, or who don't care about the third world labor conditions that exist and contribute to those Jordans, but that's a whole new can of worms to open up in another thread.

Those kids are playing with fire for YouTube money and it's gonna bite them in the ass one day, staged or not.

i've seen other videos of these buffoons before. they've got balls - i'll give them that - but they're straight stupid. the one where they ask people "yo wanna buy a gun?"

watch that one

I feel like you have to be a fucking idiot to attack someone for stepping on your shoe or "disrespecting" you

That said, these guys are racist cunts

Everyone loses.

I think a lot of people don't understand why someone would immediately turn to violence. Why not use wordsmith & wit vs. physical harm?

I find it interesting that its the first and only thing that catches their attention, rather than the asshole running around going "Hey let me go intentionally damage something I know someone else spent a lot of money on for NO REASON WHATSOEVER!"

Funny how ones mind can slide riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight past that bit of absolute jackassery to getting so hot under the collar that the person disrespected might get an attitude about it.

.... I, what?

I mean, I get that it's completely douchebag-gy to destroy someone else's stuff, and given that the person is WEARING the shoe, you could try and go to "defense" argument [but not really because that's mostly about your life being in danger], but "catching a body"?

..... what?

Do you think Obama would react like that? Seriously. This video makes it a black/white thing, but it's not. It's more of a social classist thing.

(Also, I would respond with "don't be violent," but I was never bullied in school because people in my social group don't physically assault others [which is what physically bullying is].)

I didn't know we were dragging the President into this conversation now...

Also all that barely veiled racism?

..... what?

Do you think Obama would react like that *if a non-black person did this to him? Seriously. If you want to make it a black/white thing, then that's my question to you.

This video makes it a black/nonblack thing, but it's not. It's more of a social classist thing. (If you go back to my "Obama" example, it's not about someone being black or white. It's about social class. The President of the US would probably not react like that because of his socioeconomic upbringing, not because the other person was a different race or whatever.) The video itself is definitely racist, but racist BECAUSE they tried to make a racist-against-blacks thing. If we're going to talk about actual physical reactions / violence, that's a class thing. Poorer areas tend to be more violent. Socioeconomics, and not race, is a bigger factor in violence and attitudes.

(Also, I would respond with "don't be violent," but I was never bullied in school because people in my social group don't physically assault others [which is what physically bullying is].)
I'm African American and I'm highly critical of what white people say to me due to past experiences. Take that how you will. Why do I care how Obama acts? Its a white vs black thing. Most blacks aren't in the social class you're referring to in the first place. Lets not get off topic here. Point is privileged/whites wouldn't understand the blacks reaction. You're post proves this so no point in continuing.

Sorry, I am picking a really obvious black example of the highest power of position in the US- and you can bet that person is not from a poor area. I can also pick Ms. Rice, Mr. Powell, or any other really prominent, well-off, educated (black) person.

My point is that it's not a race thing, despite the fact that the video tries to make it so, and the person's response with thinly veiled "I hate white people, of course a black man will respond like that" is making the reaction about race when it's not.

I'm not taking the President and saying "see black people, why can't you act like that," because it's not a matter of race. It's a matter of socioeconomical behavior. I was pointing out that if it's because "a black man won't let a white man do that," picking a black person who obviously won't do that seemed like easiest analogy to make.

People in the hood.... in any color hood... will probably react the same way, as opposed to people (of that same skin color) outside "the hood." An Asian wangsta might punch you in the face if you look at him wrong, the president of Toyota or Honda won't.

*edit:

What? That's not what I'm saying.

My point is, if Weeknd is going to make this a "of course any black man will react that way when a goddamn white cracker does this," then I'm going to pick the most obvious example of an affluent black man to say that it's not race, it's socioeconomical class.

It's the goddamn President of the US. Poor, non-privileged people don't become President.

Um, mr Obama, ms rice, and mr Powell all have humble lower class roots. The fact that they not only were able to get into the right schools and make the right connections is inconsequential to their economic well being before they rose to high profile Cabinet positions and President respectively. They all played the political game very well and picked the right horses to win.

And actually, if you look at US history, we've had often enough very poor, relatively non privileged people become President.
Abraham Lincoln for one.

Wow.

Every. Single. Thing. Is victim blaming.

You got robbed because you left your door open? Victim blaming if called out
You uploaded nude pictures on Facebook and someone shared the link? Victim blaming if called out
You beat someone up over nothing? Victim blaming if called out

This shit is really annoying.

No one is allowed to be sensible or smart. You can do whatever you want and it's never your fault. Such bullshit.

Edit unless if you meant the 'pranksters' are the victims. Then I'm sorry for misunderstanding. Although they're not really victims either.

I tend to agree that people are unfairly accused of victim blaming all too often, however I don't think you can speak of what is sensible or smart in reference to antagonistic harassers - which is what these "pranksters" are really are.

Be sure to flag it for violence/racism and all that so the video is 18+ and they can't get any money off of it.

Last I read, they don't make any money from their videos.

http://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanhatesthis/meet-the-two-brothers-behind-ocktv-hood-pranks
OckTV isn’t partnered with YouTube. So they aren’t making any money off their channel, but if they did partner with it, they might be able to turn beatings into a lot of money. According to Social Blade and Stat Sheep, both YouTube analytics websites, E.T. and Moe’s channel could bring in around $10,000 a month if they monetized it.

To partner up with YouTube, though, OckTV would have to meet certain criteria. They would have to find an alternative to the copyrighted music they use and tone down some of the violence and language.

They would basically have to kill their gimmick in order to get paid.

So they aren't even getting paid for their bullshit?

I don't even understand what's the purpose of these shitty videos then?!

Build a brand and then cash in on it. If they captivate a huge audience via controversy, they can probably start toning shit down and still keep a huge chunk and make tens of thousands (or more) per month. Or get approached for a TV deal. They deny wanting to go the TV route, but they're probably holding out for better offers.

Someone accidentally stands on my sneakers and I'm not going to give a shit. Now if some arsehole comes up to me and asks if he can stand on my sneaker, then does so, I'm going to punch him square on the chin.

As far as I'm concerned, these idiots are asking for it.
