Just realized that ipod defined an Era, then Apple did it again with the iPhone. Christ. It was amazing to watch the iPod define an era, and then fade into the background and disappear. Nothing like than since the Walkman.

iPhone is too big and bulky for the gym. Fuck.
Apple watch plays music? Lol
Yes, also has functionality that helps in the gym
$50 for a 2GB Shuffle in 2017 is a joke.
Apple is gearing up for when it kills the iTunes store next year and switches to Apple Music completely

Man, remember the 1st gen iPod Nano?
I spent all my savings on that bad boy and it was like owning some artifact from the freaking future. So damn small, slick and yet still so amazing to use.
I still own it and last I checked it still works like a charm.

Apple fucked up the second they replaced the hardware after the 5th Generation iPod Classics. There are so many other companies that sell better audio players (most of which support FLAC and hi-res files).
I loved mine and held onto it until Apple did the recall about the possible exploding battery. Got it swapped out for a 6th gen, which I still use and love though missed having physical buttons on it.
Might try to see if I can still pick up a 7th gen tomorrow at the Apple Store...
Same here. I had a 2gb nano, which was in the recall. The best part is that the circle wheel had stopped working unless I put it in the refrigerator. So I shipped it back and got an 8gb 6th gen nano for a replacement.
I miss physical buttons, playing musics for 20 hours without a recharge, itunes that worked (most of the time), personally curated play lists with ratings and playcounts tracked, not having to be online or a phone service with data to play music correctly or at all. Nothing has come close to the mid 2000s experience. The current alternatives all seem a step down from that.
I was on the fence of buying another ipod as the experience on iphone has been terrible lately.

Why not push everyone on Apple Music to get a ton more marketshare? No. There is little overhead in running that business and some songs don't even have streaming, sometimes when a new album is released. No need to throw out an income source for no reason.
Different from the iPods, as they are physical products taking shelf space, require logistics, production, etc.
The shuffle is still my favorite music player for when I go running. I don't want my phone with me then because that's too heavy and I like to listen to music while jogging through the park.
Good job running the nano all the way into the ground with the trash tiny touch screen models.
This was the case for me. I got a 3rd gen Nano for my 11th birthday in 2007, and holy shit it might have been the most important birthday gift I've ever gotten. I still use it as well. This fucking thing is almost 10 years old and still going strong. That's a remarkable piece of tech right there.I was just ranting to my wife about this last weekend. If these were around when I was a kid, shit would of legit changed my fucking life.
bitchen technology maaaaannnnnnnnn..........this is the drunk thread right?
Never had a problem with the wheel on my 2G nano. The touch screen is tiny and annoying to use while holding the device with one hand.I prefer those than the wheel which was easy to keep going past or before the song you wanted (especially on the long ones that had tiny wheels, the square nano before the touch screens actually had a decent wheel). Touch screen was faster to get to what you wanted. And for fast forwarding/rewinding/play/stop without looking that was what the remote on the headset was for.
Wait. WTF? I still use the Nano because the iPhone is too goddamn big to carry on a run. WTF are they thinking?
Odd that they were still there, how long will the touch last?
It has never been easier or more convenient to listen to music than now.
Wait what?No proof of this, but I honestly don't think many people know how to transfer the music, or don't want to take the time to do so.
