Can anyone recommend a good cover for the back of the iPad 2? I got my dad an iPad 2 and a smart cover but he wants something to protect the back. What's the best thing for that?
Just do an Amazon search for "smart cover compatible case". There are tons to choose from. I paid $12 for one and it's great.

Big Comic Zeal update just came out! Cool new interface, even more functionality, and it puts the comics you've finished into virtual poly-bags. Skueomorphic UI haters, be gone!

Is a new interface or a different skin on the old one? Has the page turning been fixed? 'Best orientation' autorotate included?

Skueomorphic UI haters, ComicFlow would be happy to have you, and it's the superior comic book option ;)

Seems like a mix to me. What was wrong with page turning before? I'd have to check, but that doesn't seem like a very important feature to me.

Has the ability to delete comics from within the app been added to Flow? What makes it better than Glass?

There have only been talk of iPad 7" (again, not gonna happen), as well as dual-led lighting.

I only hope for one thing and one thing only, retina display. If it's just an iPad 2 with retina, I'll be happy, as I skipped iPad 2. A FaceTime HD camera would be welcomed though.

I'm holding out as well. My gut tells me late 1st qtr or early 2nd qtr next year.

Yeah me too. But if they do announce an Ipad mini and drop the price of the 2, i'll just pick that up and resell next year when 3 drops.

I just want retina and Siri.

I can't really defend my gum-flapping since I'm not a big comic book guy and I don't have experience with Glass.

Things I like about it:
- Speedy, even with my whole collection. ComicZeal used to be slow for me and the backup bug was serious, although I guess that's fixed now.
- Easy sorting by date, name, series, or status
- Clean visual interface
- Free, open source.

I'm not sure if you can delete comics from inside Flow. Just checked, looking at the UI it seems like you can't, that's unfortunate. I've always used the iTunes or WebDAV file management stuff so I guess I've never run into that.

Just as a point of compariosn, here's my entire comic collection:
- Tintin
- The hardcover walking dead Vol 1-7
- Watchmen
- Maus
- Ghost World
- Fables
- Blankets
- Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck

So, uh, if you're actually a comic buff, you probably have a lot more than I do.

Since it's free, I recommend just trying it regardless to see if it works better for you.

What if the high res display (if it has one) has low yields and/or demand is higher than expected and it's out of stock everywhere?

Welp, finally some good news on batteries. Gonna have to wait for iPad 8 or 9 (unless Apple invests directly), but generally when a reputable University group has a solution in a high-value area we can at least assume that battery manufacturers are going to pour money into seeing if it works.

+ 5x-10x gain in capacity
+ Up to 10x decrease in charge time
- Capacity loss decrease per cycle looks to be around 50% faster (mitigated by capacity increase)

Realistically if they can get a working process for in-plane defects (part-1 of what this battery tech is about) I'm guessing it's more like 5x than 10x, but quite frankly we have enough trouble reaching 1.5x right now so any improvement is probably worth it; I'm sure everyone here would appreciate having an average iPad runtime of 40 hours.

He'll be spending his vacation waiting in line...

DigiTimes: Samsung, Sharp already shipping iPad 3 panels

If Apple is to announce a next-generation iPad some time in the first quarter of next year, as they did with both the original iPad and iPad 2, components to build the device should be shipping to Apple’s contract manufacturers in Asia as we speak. According to a new report by Asian trade publication DigiTimes, Apple has tapped Samsung and Sharp for iPad 3 panels:

Samsung and Sharp already began shipping panels for the next-generation iPads to Apple in October, and Taiwan-based touch panel makers TPK Holding and Wintek will begin to ship touch panels for the new iPads to the supply chain in November-December.

A CNET report last month suggested that iPad 3 could boast the rumored Retina Display with a 2048-by-1536 pixel resolution, provided Samsung and LG Display can produce them in large numbers. Apple is thought to be exploring a dual-LED light bar design for iPad 3 which should maintain or strengthen the brightness of the high-resolution panels. Be advised that DigiTimes has become notoriously unreliable lately. The publication recently called for two iPads next year, one a minor refresh with thinner design and better battery due in March and the other slated for the year’s end. The publication also touched on a recent claim that Apple cut holiday iPad orders by 25 percent, which caused quite a stir among industry watchers…

The company was apparently left with a stockpile of 4-5 million units of iPad 2 in the supply chain because it ordered parts and components for the production of 15-16 million iPads. Apple ended up selling 11.12 million iPads during the September quarter, so they had to tweak the manufacturing output a bit. This in turn affected projected iPad 2 panel shipments from Apple’s suppliers Samsung Electronics, LG Display and Chimei Innolux. This also tells us Apple should have plenty of iPads going into the Christmas shopping season. The reshuffling of iPad 2 inventories prompted J.P. Morgan’s Asia team to hit the panic button prematurely. They backpedalled soon thereafter, saying Apple was fine.

Though, Develop haven't had a great record recently. If they already sent panels last month, then that would imply no Retina, no?

Now that I think about it, a friend of mine is going to the US in December and if he could buy it for me there it would be MUCH cheaper than buying in Portugal. I'm guessing there's no sort of region protection in place right?

Speaking of Comic Zeal, what is the easiest way to transfer my comics to the ipad? I have been using dropbox simply because Itunes doesn't allow me to see Comic Zeal and using the wifi sync doesn't work.

I've been loading comics using wireless with itunes.

I was originally going to buy the Kindle Fire, but I'm becoming more convinced to purchase an iPad. I'm just not sure if I should buy the original or the iPad 2. I'm looking at a refurbished original iPad that has 32gb of storage + WiFi/3G for $399.99. Apple also has a refurbished iPad 2 with 16gb of storage + WiFi for $449.99. Decisions, decisions.

Buy iPad 2.
It's thinner, lighter and rests much easier in your hands. Besides, I got an iPad 1 and it got a bit sluggish with iOS5. Multi-gestures are sometimes unresponsive and you end up doing the wrong thing and Safari crashes many times as well.

Is it true that you can load those digital copies of movies (the ones you get with blu-rays) on the iPad 2? Anyone done it? Is it easy to do?

Except for these new shitty ones with "Ultraviolet" on them, yes.

The discs that come with proper iTunes codes are easy as can be. You redeem the code in iTunes and download your movie.

Don't buy the OG iPad. It's a piece of crap.

huh? Ultraviolet? Does the blu-ray box typically say it's an Ultraviolet digital copy?

Sorry, I haven't redeemed any digital copy yet. What I'm wanting/hoping to do is buy the new Winnie the Pooh blu-ray and load the digital copy on my iPad 2 for my daughter.

Nice! Are those the norm?

Yeah, the ones that say "+ Digital Copy" will work in iTunes, the Ultraviolet ones specifically say "Ultraviolet".

Winnie the Pooh will work fine.

EDIT: The Ultraviolet copies supposedly work on the iPad by streaming through the Flixster app, but I haven't tried this.
