Apple iPad 2 |OT|

Anyone one else got the Vevo app? When I play it out to my tv via the HDMI adapter, it says on the iPad that video is now being played on the tv, however on the TV I just get a big vevo logo. I have the audio though. Anyone else have this problem?

Well, my iPad 2 finally shipped that I bought myself as a graduation present. I am kind of surprised I ended up on board with the iPad. A year ago I was rather skeptical of what the tablet market would mean. Initially I though it was going to be more of a laptop replacement but now I view it more as a supplement to my desktop and mobile phone.

I decided before the iPad even came out that I would want my tablet device to match the OS of my mobile device. I have had the chance for a phone upgrade since iPhone 4 launch but I stuck with the 3GS because I wanted to see how Android played out. Well, the Galaxy II looks awesome but the tablet side is underwhelming for me at the moment. I have had lots of time with my buddies Xoom and it is lovely kit but feels like it should have been launched against iPad not iPad 2. I have my apps and iTunes setup from two years of iPhone use so staying in the iOS realm seemed like the best idea. I will be upgrading to whatever iPhone is launched in September as well.

Can't wait for the iPad 2 to arrive! Speaking of which, WTF is wrong with Apple's shipping? Is this just because of the iPad 2 or does every product list 4 different ship dates when ordered from Apple store? As of Friday, ship date listed May 7th. It was May 5th the week before. Then today I get an email. It shipped April 30th!, arrives May 3rd. However, Apples's website shows it arrives may 5th but the Fed Ex tracking information when you click on it and go to fedex.com shows may 2nd! It is insane. I have never had an item shipped though a major company and major delivery service like apple and fedex have so many discrepancies in dates. I understand prior to the shipment that stock could be available sooner or later, but once it is in the shipping system you can figure out arrivals practically down to the minute. Really weird stuff. I just want it by the end of the week!

Just wanted to say Flipboard is the most awesome news app ever. And It's free.
Yessss! What do you have in yours? I'm looking for more stuff to put in my Flipboard.

News apps like USA Today, NYT, and The Daily are kind of useless when you have Flipboard.

meh. love flipboard, but the NYT's app is essential if you're a subscriber. Flipboard has great presentation, but they rely too heavily on middling news outlets for the makeup of their channels.

I dunno, Flipboard has improved greatly since it launched. I always end up going back to it after I try other news apps. They've been adding new featured content sources each week, too.

+1 for Flipboard and its news capabilities. I don't use it for any of the social junk but I've attached my Google Reader Account...great stuff!

I liked FlipBoard, but it sucks for reading full length content, so I don't actually use it for news. I use it for what it's best at; images and photos, so I subscribe to Apartmenttherapy, Uncrate, Astronomy Picture of the Day, Best of Instagram, FlipPhotos, etc. If it was possible to have a full length article reading interface that didn't suck I'd definitely use it for that.

It's pretty decent for Twitter as well.

Any have any free game suggestions? My credit card won't be here to buy any until later this week, thanks to the PSN fiasco.
Ditto. Lol

But for some reason it allowed me to purchase all the kairsoft games on sale, but later when I tried to dl previously purchased apps I got a warning to verify my cc card

Just wanted to share by back skin I installed today. Its from Stickerboy. Got it off ebay for 10 bucks. Amazing fit and finish. Took 10 minutes to install

I'm really sad I bought Numbers and it turns out I can't track my savings because it only does UD Dollars as a currency. Is there any app where I can keep track of my savings and where it'll calculate when I'll reach my goals and alarms me if I'm not following the plan etc.?

Wait, you can't use it because it displays $ instead of kr? I assume from your post before you are talking about the Danish krone? It's divisible by ten right? Wikipedia says there are 100 øre to a krone, so why does a spreadsheet suddenly not function because the currency symbol is incorrect?

Do you have your iPad set to Dansk and your region set to Denmark?

If you are still unsatisfied, or it doesn't work like you expected, sent iTunes a support email and request a refund. They will either help you to solve the problem, or give you your money back.

Would be great if I could just erase the currency all together?

When I enter Numbers, I select "Personal Savings" as a spreadsheet.
Then I remove the Dollars symbol from the "Savings Calculator" but it still calculates it in dollars in the "Results" section.

There's no options for Numbers in "Settings", only License Agreement and Acknowledgements. I'll take a picture on the iPad, was there a image-upload app for the device?

So I had the fortune of actually playing around (first time for me) with a tablet other than the iPad the other day. I think it was the Acer Iconia Tab.

MY first go with Android honeycomb. It was actually pretty nice. Lots of ports and things. It did make me realise how awkward the widescreen display is to use in portrait mode (my preferred mode).

It made me a bit nostalgic, actually, back to my Windows days. Back when I didn't care about OS, or design. Back when what I was doing was good enough.

It does make me realise that Apple are so ahead of the pack - they really have heralded the tablet age, even though they didn't invent the category. What they did do is say that a tablet computing device should be more like a mobile phone than a PC. They showed what was the bare minimum you needed to be considered 'enough' for most people, and that it really was enough to kick off the category.

It's weird, because was there anything really like the iPad before? Sure, the newer tabs have a load of features, but it seems they've just built upon what the ipad put out, and all that was was a larger iPod touch. It seems so obvious in hindsight, but I think before everyone was just making tablets that were more like PCs, rather than the phone approach which has worked well for Apple.

Curiously, do you think the iPad would have made more or less traction had it been introduced before an iPod touch/iPhone? Would it be MORE amazing, or less?

Edit: I guess that's not really what you meant

Yeah I want a transparent screen protector (keep it clean from smudges as well as scratches) along with a good snug fitting skin. It doesn't have to be the same package (I probably should've omitted combo from my previous post). I don't really like the aesthetics of the folio covers.

Completely unnecessary. Don't throw your money away.

What Apple did was show that you can give a customer the bare minimum but jack up the price. And unfortunately because of this, it has given other companies reasoning to do so as well.

I've just received my IPad 2 yesterday. I'm using it right now to GAF it up :)
Is there a dedicated thread for I Pad backgrounds?

some gaffer had a website where he uploaded ipad wallpapers - but I can't recall the link. Somone else might. That or just do a google. Plenty of sites :P

I prefer to use something I'm interested personally in so that's my wall paper and it changes all the time.

Well, I disagree that the product isn't worth the cost, seeing as I use my iPad heavily everyday, but I can see your sentiment about Apple setting the baseline. Good point about why bother extending? Thing is, if the product can be made a lot more cheaply, while retaining the experience, one would've thought that a competitor would do so.

?

there is no basis for that claim. The apple product lines have a design premium on it. Its not just specs. Otherwise, they'd be as generic as acer or something.

There's Video Stream but I haven't tried it in a while. Technically it's still basic folders, but the UI is fancier layout of them.
Definitely a better UI, they should copy that.

I hate when devs don't use the canvas available to them (or provide multiple options).

Rar.

FINALLY! Miniot just let me know my Wooden iPad ships the 12th. So I should have it within a week of that. So the 19th or 20th. YAY! Only took close to two months.

Mmmm so close...

Screen protectors, and always on cases are stupid, unnecessary, and unneeded.

As I said before, it is like my old gran leaving the plastic covering on her sofa, but still spending extra money to get a nice sofa

If you need to buy something to keep it safe, buy a temporary pouch of some kind to store the iPad in while in transit. There are some that fit iPad exactly, I am not sure if this one 100% does though

And dont get me started on these stickers people put on the back of their device. They dont want to get the back scratched, so they make the whole thing look like shit beforehand.

Bullshit. I kept my last ipad super clean, don't have nails, don't use stylus and kept it in a neoprene incase slip sleeve. Took 2 months before little scratches formed on the glass.

Powersupport screen protectors are awesome, don't give it a plastic feel, and don't add that orange peel effect. I personally don't want scratches on my new iPad. So I am getting a powersupport protector soon.

PS. I'm working on some cosmetic changes to make it look better when viewed on the iPad. I've been really busy with my job lately and I'm going on vacation next week, but I'll try to get them done before I leave.

LOL.

Apple tries it's hardest to make the device thinner and lighter, case manufacturers try their hardest to go in the opposite direction.

Amazing.

I am not going to argue with you, or start throwing the word bullshit back at you, but they are unneeded items in my opinion. There is nothing on the human body that could mark the iPad while in normal use. I am sure stuff like engagement rings might be a problem, but even then, people should not be using that side of their hand.

If people want to be super safe, then maybe use a protective pouch while in transit. There is no need to encase you iPad in stuff when you are holding it

BTW, my original post was not direct at you. It was at Gully State's post. Those cover/stands are an legitimate item imo

to each their own, but i'd rather have the security in making sure the glass on my device won't shatter as soon as it hits a hard surface after a 3+ foot drop.

It's great for just flipping through (pun intended) your Twitter feed at the end of the day to see if there's anything cool you missed =) Not as useful for going through a linear timeline of everything that went on over the course of the day though.

I used my iPad 1 for a year and just kept it in a case with a cover. I would wipe it with a microfiber cloth from time to time. It was spotless and scratchless when I sold it 11 months later for $350.

It's not a phone--it's not going in your pockets with keys/coins, and you aren't waving it in the air near your ear like a phone. The chances of scratches are much lower compared to a phone.

I agree with you 100%. Putting a screen protector on an iPhone/iPad is 100% pointless. Not only do they make your phone look hideous, they also make the finer touch gestures a pain in the ass to perform. Apple did not intend for their products to work with a big plastic sheet over them.

Sorry if the BS remark came off as angered. It wasn't meant for insult I just think your remark is no where near the truth. Also this is a discussion forum, not a PM so It doesn't matter who the previous post was directed towards.

I've owned apple products forever. My iphones have been scratched without protectors same as iPads. That oleophobic coating only lasts so long, and will scratch over time. Little pieces of dirt and dust on the screen or your finger will rub against and scratch it.

I take extremely good care of my first ipad. Never used a stylus, no one else ever touched it. Don't have any rings, cut my fingernails, and put it in the best sleeve available. There were minor and light scratches. Have no idea how the hell they happened, but they can and eventually will.

Right you're doing it wrong. Get a powersupport antiglare for iPhone 4 or crystal. They are MUCH easier for your finger than the glass.

The oils on your finger spread on glass and make moves harder on points where your finger hasn't yet touched, the protectors don't have that flaw. Not to mention they are not thick, or plastic looking like others. Most protectors are shit, but powersupport is a different story.
