For me, I don't like the cover because it doesn't stick to the back. It just kinda hangs there. Mines going back.

i've seen video where you fold the cover in half on itself and then it stays in place when holding it with just your left hand. no more flopping.

but i'm not sure if that feels too thick in your hand

It's good. I don't mind it either way. The way I generally use it, the "flopping" is kept to a minimum anyway. I can see how it would be distracting to some, but not others. Very subjective.

They've told us the delivery truck is here!

Now they just need to unpack.

They're switching to one per person if stock isn't high enough.

So, Jersey-NYC GAF, what's my best bet? I was gonna take the PATH into the city and roll the dice with 5th Ave/14th St/UWS stores.

Think that's my best bet?

32 or 64
smart cover or not
plastic or leather

Decisions, decisions.
I'll figure it out on the spot.

Edit. Beat ya mak!

Try calling Tekserve. They might have limited stock, but less people know about them.

In line again at the apple store in orlando. They have the 32 black wifi that I want, so it's a numbers game now. Bout 30 back in line.

The store I went to was horrible.
At my location apple lied about their inventory and screwed alot of people over.

Apple Employees
Hey we've totally run out of Ipads! You can stick in line, but your probably not gonna get one. A bunch of people leave the line.
Tell xxxx he's not suppose to be yelling at the customers.
20 mins later, we still have some in stock but 3g models are entirely out of stock.
20 mins later, we have some verizon 3g left in stock.
10 mins later, there is no more white of any model.
10 mins later, we have some white of the verizon in stock.
10 mins later, there are no more 3g models or 16gb wifi models.
5 mins later, we have some of the 16gb,32gb,64gb wifi models black left in stock.
I enter, is there any model I can get for you today?

I eventually get my ipad, but I feel bad lots of people waited hours and left because the apple employees kept saying the ipads were out of stock.

It sure as hell looks like it. I can't begin to explain how bad these are. Even in the ipad, they look like shit lol

Yep. I mean these sensors couldn't have cost Apple more than 5 dollars. Who in the world thought putting crappy cameras like this into an otherwise world-class tablet was a good idea. What's the point? So they can "double" the resolution next time around?

Actually, I think that's it. They can't allow the picture to be too good or you'll have no reason to upgrade next year.

/sigh

Question to those who have upgraded? Was it worth it? After hearing about the light leakagle the piss poor cameras and the minor upgrade in RAM, I don't think I'll bother personally.

I may keep this till next year and see what android tablets are offering. Either that or an iPad 3.

1gb ram, 2 mp at least on the back cam and retina display or bust.

Why not take 5 minutes and call the stores?

Honestly? Other than the speed increase I'm not impressed. Oh well, I already sold my old one so my die is cast.

It doubled the RAM from the iPad 1. And even the paltry 256 on the iPad 1 was barely noticeable most of the time. Sure, it reared its head now and again, but it was nowhere near a limiting factor of the device.

I was on the Lincoln Center store and I don't there are any left there.

The line went pretty fast. Amazingly fast if you ask me. I was a block away when they started selling and was with a rep within 15 mins.

and when i left the line was still around the block.

Godspeed man.

I could see them doing a Retina Display on a Premium model but not at the $500 entry price.

I thought as much. I nearly did the same but I wasn't prepared to lose £120 on a 3 month old device.

As for speed, I'm happy with the browsing speed already.

I thought I was happy with the browsing, but after one day I don't think I could go back to the iPad 1. It cost me $250 to upgrade, and so far it's worth every penny, for the speed boost and the new design alone.

Something similar occurred at my location as well. About 10 minutes in, the staff said that all AT&T models were sold out, followed by all 64gb, all 3G, all black and then all 16GB. With only 32gb white left, They then told us the chances of getting any unit at all were slim. I came wanting the 16gb black but did still like the look of the white and thought that I could maybe still benefit from the increased storage. I arrived at 5pm with about 12 mall storefronts between me and the Apple Store. Plenty of people left as each announcement was given. By about 6:30 the staff was saying due to people changing their minds, we should remain in line. By the time I was at the front at 7pm I was given a card saying I could receive a 32 white wifi. About 5 minutes later I was told I could change that to a 32 black wifi. By the time I was at the counter, I was told there were no more of the 32 blacks but that I could get a 16 black wifi. I got exactly what I had come for.

I don't think negatively of the employees for doing this though. They were not informed of the total stock on purpose so they couldn't promise anything. In a sense, I feel the announcements merely weeded out people who were more certain of exactly what they wanted and were willing to wait to guarantee they got what they wanted.

FYI this was the Apple Store in the Burlington Mall in MA. I wish I had the time yesterday to head to the Boston one for the umbrellas now though. Unfortunately the client I was at was in the Burlington area and the earliest I could get out was 5pm.

I think it's worth it if money's not tight. Really feels better to hold and the smart cover is awesome. Speed increase and video are also awesome but the still camera is horrific.

If you are upgrading primarily for taking pics, don't waste your time and money..

You're being awfully gracious. That sounds completely unacceptable to me.

From the other thread, but I just watched it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuR7VX4ygFc

David Jaffe is mad at the Apple Store.

Wow. People actually listen to and care about what Jaffe says? Great job for making God of War and Twisted Metal, Jaffe, but you have serious emotional issue. He really needs to get over himself and gorw up.

The idea that people listen to his immature, embarrassing rants really rubs me the wrong way. Not to mention that you can tell he thinks he's worthy of such a fanbase.

That said, I hate when any store employee gives me the crap they gave him. I get frustrated too. Fortunately, I don't react the way Jaffe does.

AT the apple store in Broomfield, CO. Line is about 40-50 deep now. Manager came out, warned us that he didn't have any right now and he didn't know how few, if any, they are getting today.

Got here about an hour ago. Supposedly they get their shipment around 11.

Wow, people in line for a product the store doesn't have and might not even get. MAGICAL.

Looks like the iPod touch camera. It would've been nice to see the iPhones camera in there. iPad 3 i guess.

I thought it was already confirmed to be the iPod camera?

It looks like it's selling out faster than the first iPad. I remember walking in the SoHo NYC Apple Store around 4-5 pm on launch day last year, no line, and you could still buy them.

I'll try here,
I saw some gaffers have been subscribing to Apple Developer Connection which was free to them and adding multi-touch gestures for the multi-tasking bar, changing apps and quitting apps - how do I exactly do this? I'm reading the guide delivered in the iPad thread but how do I step-by-step subscribe for free? I'm stuck at the "phone number" field by the way, as I don't know what they mean by "area code" and "extension".

Got mine yesterday at Best Buy. Got in line around 3:15, out the door around 5:30.

There weren't alot of people really. Maybe like 50 people all together. At 4:30 they actually gave us folders that corresponded to a unit. For instance. a folder had, "16GB, Wifi, Black" on it and inside there was a form that said the exact same thing, along with ads for geek squad services. At 5 they let everyone in, we remained in line, paid and got our stuffs. The way it was handled let you know what they had and what you would be getting before stepping foot in the store.

Eeveryone in line was nice and such. A huge cross section of people. Middle-aged men of all races, some "typical nerd"-looking youngsters typing away on laptops, and surprisingly a decent about of older women.

I probably could have waited until today at the Apple Store near me for less of a wait, but I had nothing to do yesterday anyway.

Here is a video I found on Macrumors of a dude's purchase of his iPad 2 here in Houston. My day was not this interesting - http://www.ifouine.com/2011/03/sortie-de-lipad-2-aux-usa-live/.

Anyone got any updates on NYC stores? I've been hearing that the 5th ave store is out, the soho store has a gigantic line, tekserve seems to be low on supply with a decent sized line and according to best buys website their sold out everywhere. Any recommendations?

got the 16gb wifi last nite, and very happy with it, as it is my first tablet.

I like the smart cover too, but will probably get protection for the back. And, Ive noticed that it you put the smart cover all the way over on the back, the magnets can still kinda catch, and will hold it enough to not flop over. Cant provide a pic to prove, tho. sorry.

Got Garageband, Angry Birds, and loaded up my ebook collection. I want to try a comic book reader. any recommendations on those, and also, where can you get e-comic books? Ive never looked for them before, but i would like to start reading them again.

So far, it was worth every penny. yeah, the cameras suck, but i only plan on using them for Facetime, and let the kids play with Photobooth, so that's not a big deal.

Did you end up with one?

I didn't pick one up yesterday... considering today if any available in this damn city.

I was the cut off person so they didn't have the model I wanted.

Sold my spot for $150 to a guy that offered.

I don't have the money for an iPad 2 yet, maybe I should make a business out of line spots...

What are some good sites to get wallpapers at? I had a bunch saved on my OG iPad but forgot to back them up.

I'd like to know as well. I tried searching last night for good wallpaper sites, but ended up finding a bunch of crappy sites. HALP! :D
