Wait a minute... Is VLC Media Player gone from the App store now? I have it on my iPhone and wanted to download it for my iPad but cannot find it anywhere.
If you have it on your iPhone you can sync it to iTunes (transfer purchases). You can then sync it to your iPad.

Did you try setting it up as a new iPad rather than restoring from a backup?
Okay, just tried doing a fresh iPad setup.

Problem persists - iPad freezes display upon screenlock before turning black. Takes a minute to wake up after pressing the home button.

Now attempting restore attempt number 5.

I think you should definitely have it exchanged. They usually have reserve units for defective exchange purposes, so I would check with Apple personally.

Just about ready to throw this thing against the fucking wall so the sooner I take it to an Apple store the better.

Pressing the home button and staring at a blank screen is frustration beyond description.

As long as it was an Apple Authorized Reseller you purchased from, just take it straight to an Apple store. They'll see what you're describing in about 5 seconds and will probably just give you a new one on the spot.

Received my Incipio Feather Frost today. It protects the back of the iPad without adding extra bulk.

Can't beat $24.99 shipped (with a $10. off coupon) and it includes a couple of static screen protectors, one clear and one frost.

Does that leave space for a smart cover to attach? Looks pretty good if so...other than the big ass branding.

That looks like a problem with either your connection or the image links.

Also has someone tried iCarbons skins? Im thinking of getting something to shield the back of my iPad 2 with the smart cover. Is there anything else than Gelaskins, iCarbons and Zagg's invisible shields?
I've heard of a few others, but it's basically all the same stuff. I think iSkins is another Gelaskins type (but without the custom option it seems), a guy or two over on Something Awful is getting his own carbon fiber skin stuff made, and I'm sure there'll be more than just Zagg for clear options if there aren't already.

Obviously I'll get a case for carrying it around in my bag, but would you guys say that you need to keep it into a case around the house to keep the back from getting scratched?
If you're paranoid just put it down cover side down, or when using it make sure surfaces are clean first I guess. Maybe just get a sleeve thing. It'll cover it up in your bag, and if you want to put it down somewhere and use it you can place it on top of the sleeve.

Anyone try Files Connect yet? Just came out last week and it's got some strong reviews. Thinking of getting it to replace Good Reader.
I almost got it for the AFP support (to connect to my Macs)...then remembered the Good Reader update with SFTP let me do that through SSH already. Still pretty tempting cause Good Reader's UI is kind of assy (in use), although Files Connect looks kind of ugly but probably better in use.

Hey man, had this exact issue with the iPad 1. Take it to the Apple Store, they'll call you when they get a new one in and you can replace it, keeping the one you have now until that point (took them a week in my case).

Still not seeing the logic in "I don't want my iPad to look fucked up" and then fucking it up with an ostentatious case anyway.

At least getting the back scuffed is free.

The only scenario I understand is if you're one of those nutty resellers that has to keep it pristine so you get an extra $50 when you sell it a year from now.

The fuck do you care for ?

Also to the person above me.. Case looks awesome. For 5 bucks... Steal

Half of Apple threads are about covering up your Apple products.

The other half is me being mean.

I do have that $5 Kensington netbook sleeve from Amazon for traveling. I bought it last year when someone recommended it then. It's cheap as hell and a perfect fit.

Just tried the iPad 2 for the first time at a store today and wow does it feel much lighter and thinner, so I immediately stopped playing with it and moved on, so that I won't be tempted. Should be fine with my original iPad. =)

Has anyone updated to iOS 4.3.1 yet?
I heard people had battery issues and it was fixed in this update.

Slightly better battery life, and it made it so I can have 5 safari windows open without reloading each time I switch (iPad 1) which it wouldn't do on 4.3.

Which it wouldn't or would? 4.3 improved Safari flushing for me. Did 4.3.1 make it better?

On 4.3 whenever I switched safari windows it would reload the page. With 4.3.1 installed I have 5 open safari windows with home sharing streaming audio in the background and it keeps the pages in memory like a champ.

I have always wondered about that as well. On the buyers end why not get a scratched to buggery one if cheaper and put the case on anyway so that everyone thinks you have a nice one underneath. Not that anyone cares or even thinks about it. The whole mentality seems ridiculous.
The lifetime of the product isnt long either. Scratches are not going to effect it and the only person that cares is the owner.

4.3.1 did not do that. It just caused you to restart your iPad which took out all the open applications with it. Eventually you'll find it has the same issue as 4.3. Actually it's not an issue, it's just apples priority scheme for freeing memory - it puts background safari tabs at the top of the list, even in front of huge memory sucking apps like comics, videos, etc.

I've seen 'screen protectors' which make the iPhone retina display look like a stained glass window.

I should start selling 'invisible' screen protectors for $24.95. "Wow it's so clear! And it feels as tough as glass!"

it makes sense to dump safari tabs first though if you actually think about it? It literally takes a second or so to reload the tabs and it frees up valuable ram whereas other apps will take long to relaunch than the tabs would take to reload.

Yes, the owners care, and I wouldn't personally buy something scratched up if it were cheaper. Other than being an eyesore, it tells me the person didn't care.

I don't need back protection for the home anyway. Cases are for when I take it out.

Right, it shows the owner didn't care about it and greatly lowers the resale value.

It's a good proxy for how well it was taken care of. If there are scratches and dents, you might be worried if the internals have been affected. And the extra you get for a pristine product is more like $75-100. Some people are even willing to pay the price of a refurbished model for a used one, hoping to save on sales tax (and the electronics fee in CA).

After all this time I just now found out there is a way use the "Read Later" bookmark for Instapaper in iPad's safari. This makes the device so much more valuable for me. So good.

Honest question - Why do people use a back cover for their ipad/iphone? What's the point in making sure that the back piece is without a scratch when the back of your gadget will be covered?

I also bought the kensington case and it's a perfect fit even for my iPad 1 with a belkin case. Perfect for taking to school with me, great value there.

I'm sorry this has probably already been asked tones already, but what is the best magazine reader/seller? One that sells mags such as Edge.

Has anyone taken their light leakage Ipad back after the 14 days? And did they give you any grief?

I took mine to the Apple store (bought elsewhere) within 14 days and they even let me open up a few till I found one with no leakage issues :o

I doubt they'll give you any problems. I bet they're told not to acknowledge it to customers but they know it's an issue lol

Hey when did Apple start allowing interpreters into the AppStore? I see two Scheme apps... An oversight?
The altered the terms last year after complaints from game makers who used lua and others.

4.3 felt sluggish on my OG iPad. The keyboard lagged and swiping to the spotlight search page and opening preferences was noticeably slower than 4.2

4.3.1 is pretty much back to 4.2 speeds for me

I know this isn't an appletv thread but the YouTube app on there sucks dick. Was trying to figure out how to watch a series of clips with out just doing it from the iPad I gave up and just did it from the YouTube app from the iPad.

AirPlay that bitch

Hmm, my home button is a little bit suspect. Seems to be really fussy about when it actually works. Is this common? Might it be worth taking it into an Apple store or will they just shrug it off?
