Owner of a 64gb 3G white Ipad2. (SYDNEYaus)

Queued 3 hours and scored mine. Not bad!

Right now Ipad 1 is backing up - its full and be interesting to see if the magazines + whatnot all backup across. Be really annoyed if it didn't. Not sure if I'll keep both ipads. Ipad 1 is still good and I can put lots of stuff on it to double my capacity.

Weren't you gonna buy a camera?

Hmm, my home button is a little bit suspect. Seems to be really fussy about when it actually works. Is this common? Might it be worth taking it into an Apple store or will they just shrug it off?

If there's a problem with it, they won't shrug it off. They'll replace it for you more than likely.

I think what he means is different though, like the Scheme stuff lets you run whatever code you type in it looks like. The stuff about lua and everything was the same as before, they're allowed to have it as long as they don't run arbitrary code.

He realized as bad as an iPad is as a camera, a camera is even worse as an iPad.

I hate this damn thing being naked on the back. I'm constantly worried about f'ing it up. I wish I could find something decent that works with the smart cover. :(

Ditch the smart cover. It's probably the worst cover actually out there.

Is anyone using the Plex app? I'm wondering if it's worth a download or if there's a better solution for watching stuff on my lovely new iPad 2.

EDIT: Just saw Plex and Air Video mentioned earlier in the thread. Will look into them.

No, they had banned any interpreted languages. They then changed it to allow interpreted languages but as long as they don't download code. "are packaged in the Application and not downloaded" is the exact wording.

I almost got it for the AFP support (to connect to my Macs)...then remembered the Good Reader update with SFTP let me do that through SSH already. Still pretty tempting cause Good Reader's UI is kind of assy (in use), although Files Connect looks kind of ugly but probably better in use.
That's the boat I'm in. I'll keep an eye on it and maybe pick it up if it ever comes on sale. Looks really promising so far though.

I got it, I love it.

Bough a belkin pouch for my new iPad. :)

Anyhow, the apps, restore of ipad1 went smoothly except non of the pixel mags and zinio worked and I have to reels load.

VERYVERYVERY happy with the FASTPDF performance, no lag btw pages and its super smooth. The wifi at the applestore I'm at now is also super speedy and wow, a whole page full of images, this thing just churns out.

Amazing

I've ordered myself a bookback cover from dodocase to protect the back of mine

The iPhone 4 had an amazing wallpaper thread on here, is there a similar one for iPad? I can't find it if so. It was one of the few places I could find quality wallpapers without having to trawl through pages of horror.

Just a couple of quick comments on usage.

Bit disappointed that Photomanager pro doesn't seem to use the IPAD2 prowress to quickly load images compare to before.

Infinity Blade looks so much better

HIPSTAMATIC on ipad (iphone version) - it chews through the image processing like you would not believe. I had a Iphone 3G before and it was sludgey slow.

bought POCKETBOOTH HD and its awesome. Very fun. Even better with the huge ass screen.

FastPDF as mentioned is super quick
Zinio is super quick

Garage Band is finally usable imo - On IPAD 1, it loaded so slowly.

Photobooth is a lot eh

Right now loving everything its doing for me; especially in the areas where I used the IPAD the most - the reading. I also use it as a porfolio display so I'm a tad disappointed there isn't more improvement here. Unless someone can suggest an alternate picture displaying/categorising app - "Photomanager pro" They might update the app soon to take advantage of Ipad2 though.

Ipad OG might become my GYM pad because its got a hardshell and holds my videos + tunes.

I saw this one mentioned somewhere a few days back, not sure if it'll work for your needs though:

Might already be common knowledge but iswifter is pretty cool. It's a browser that can play flash video by offloading it to their servers. For me it works a lot better than skyfire.

I was trying to use it to watch uk programming (4od) but it was blocked due to geolocation. I presumed their servers are in the US so I tried Hulu.com and it works. Once the video loads it's pretty smooth. Watching Kitchen Nightmares right now.

EDIT: Just an update on 4od.

Apparently Channel4 will be releasing an app in 3 weeks time:
http://mediatel.co.uk/newsline/2011/03/24/c4-to-launch-4od-ipad-app/

With iplayer and 4od that's basically all my TV needs taken care of (iswifter US stuff is a bonus).

It's a good proxy for how well it was taken care of. If there are scratches and dents, you might be worried if the internals have been affected. And the extra you get for a pristine product is more like $75-100. Some people are even willing to pay the price of a refurbished model for a used one, hoping to save on sales tax (and the electronics fee in CA).

Funnily enough that didnt even occur to me due to knowing how easily they scratch. In that regard anything that looked like damage would definitely affect me buying one. But the usual dust scratches or just rubbing on tables etc doesn't faze me.

I got my iphone for about $130 US cheaper than a mint one here in New Zealand just because of scratches on the back and resold for about $15 less 8 months later.
I have been looking at doing the same thing with an ipad at the moment.

Thanks for a straight up answer.

I'm surprised no one answered. EDGE? Zinio. Zinio is probably the best one. You can get dedicated apps - like DWELL magazine (also available via zinio) I got the pixelmag version of Dwell (standalone)... but now I wish I'd gotten the Zinio version. Seems to flow/read better. Although that issue was something I felt with Ipad 1. Might be resolved with 2. I can follow up in a week. I use both apps a lot.

Thanks, I'm glad to see they don't charge the full retail price of what the paper version would be.

There's a 80% sale on EA iPad games. I bought monopoly, scrabble and C&C!

Is there? Not here in Sweden...

It does actual say upto 80%, so I imagine C&C is at the top scale of that. Still, scrabble is £4.99 normally is it not, so that's still a decent saving.

Lol, got my first two blemishes on the iPad 2 after having 0 on my iPad 1 for months.

Funny thing is that it's not on the front or back. They're on the damn bezel edge!

Are there any cases that use the magnets inside the iPad 2 like the smart cover? I would like a full cover and have the cool function of the auto off and on.

Which gives me hope that the Löve2d team will be able to get something running on the iDevices soon. I'm an active member over there working on my own games and it's really fast. They have someone working on an iOS version of the runtime. If they can succeed, it would be a great way for beginners to easily make games for an iPhone/iPod/iPad. The problem is the libraries need to be changed to iOS compatible versions.

Apple runs out of overseas iPad 2 stock by Saturday afternoon

http://venturebeat.com/2011/03/27/apple-runs-out-of-overseas-ipad-2-stock-by-saturday-afternoon/

It looks like Apple ran out of its iPad 2 supplies by Saturday afternoon in most of the 25 countries where it launched the new tablet computer on Friday.

If it’s true, then Apple is well on its way to having another worldwide hit with the iPad 2. The company is in a race to hang on to its No. 1 position in tablets and beat rivals using Android, WebOS, RIM’s QNX and other mobile operating systems.

Fortune says that a bunch of reports suggest that Apple ran out of stock quickly as it opened stores at 5 pm local time in the overseas markets, just a few weeks after the iPad 2 went on sale in the U.S. on March 11.

Pocket-lint said that the Apple stores in London are completely out of stock and won’t get more before Monday. Electronista and The Province said stores were sold out in Canada as well. Apple’s Paris store sold old its supplies on Friday. Third party retailers also had limited stock and sold out quickly.

Apple will likely disclose its numbers of iPad 2 units sold in a few weeks when it reports its second fiscal quarter earnings. It will be interesting to see if Nintendo sees the same kind of results with the launch of its Nintendo 3DS portable gaming handheld. Expectations are high for that system as well. It may be no accident that both launches are happening now.

@ that gaffer whose girl friend makes kick ass microfibre ipad sleeves. if you ever decided to start selling these bad boys, maybe @http://www.kickstarter.com/, i'll definitely buy one.

Hahahaha what a load of shit. Apple could shut down iPad production for several months and still hold the lead, comfortably.

I'm happy with mine.

Unfortunately I have a dead pixel, so I'm waiting for more stock to get my replacement.

Need to upgrade to 4.3.1 though, because I'm surprised at how sluggish this feels. I never had the first iPad and all everyone kept saying was how fast iPad 2 is.

Doesn't seem that fast to me. But maybe 4.3.1 fixes that.

Went by a Best Buy to see what their setup was like for the 3DS launch, but - I thought it was extremely crappy that this particular store (maybe it's all Best Buys) had a sign standing out front and a placard on a stand immediately inside the door with "iPad 2" all over it. Of course they don't have any iPad 2s in stock (otherwise I would've gotten one for my wife) but it's a bit of false advertising to even display those when they don't have any.

Apologies if it was discussed already, but I was wondering if there are any back covers currently available that are compatible with the smart cover? I liked the Incipio Feather case but it seems they reduce the magnet strength of the smart covers. Apparently an updated, more smart cover friendly model is coming out but not for a couple more months.

Sorry if I sound foolish, but have you ever investigated Corona SDK? You can use Lua for scripting and you can compile games for any number of handheld platforms.

iPad2-gaf, which screen protectors and cases are the best not made by Apple? I don't want to spend more then $40 total for both.

Bastards... iOS 4.3.1 borked during install on my iPad2. Recovering now... :(

On a side note: I'm JLateralus on Game Center if anyone wants to add me.

There are no good screen protectors because it's completey unnecessary. Don't waste your money.
