has anyone jailbroken their ipad2 yet? i found this site that claims redsn0w works for 4.3 for ipad 2 and i'm still on 4.3 ... quote to see the link

No, only 1 instance. Double click your home button and you can see whats in memory. Press and hold on the icon and u should have an option to remove it from memory, maybe would have fixed your Virtuoso problems

Unless you mean something other than what I'm thinking, Bookman, ComicFlow, and I think Stanza (although I'm not positive) do native cbr/cbz. Comic Glass looks interesting and I may give it a shot, but I wish it had FTP support (although in the notes section of the website it appears to be a possible future addition).

Cool, I'll try that when I get home. Being new to Apple, I feel so overwhelmed by the iPad at times. This thread and people such as yourself are a big help. Thank you.

Not everything there is necessarily in memory, it's just a recent apps list. However if it is in memory, then yeah clearing it out from there will kill the app.

And stuff can run in the background to an extent. The built in apps can stay open (like Mail) but others are limited to either 10 minute windows before they get killed (no indication), or if they have particular tasks like background music or location tracking (which will be shown in the status bar with a little icon). In those cases they should still be using lowered resources than when they are the current open app.

To be sure the least amount of stuff is open just restart the iPad (hold down the lock button, slide to turn off, hold lock to turn on again). If Virtuoso is still having performance issues it's probably just something with the app.

I found virtuoso 3 to be poorer than virtuoso 2
 
All, I want an iPad 2 for my bday which is at the end of the month so I am ordering one now. Does Apple charge you when you place the order or when it ships?

The Time Warner TV streaming app is very good. The best video streaming I've ever experienced--flipping through channels is basically instantaneous, with no buffering most of the time and the quality is very high. I wonder if Time Warner prioritizes that traffic or does any special voodoo (since they are the ISP providing the video). My internet connection usually is comparatively crap otherwise when loading other video like YouTube or Hulu.
 
Dumb question-I have seen people mention a neogaf app for the iPad.

Can't find it in app store. Am I missing it somewhere and is it optimized for the iPhone, iPad or both?

Can anyone recommend an app that will allow me to text iphone users via my ipad. It looks like Text Now might be what I'm looking for but it seems like its been getting a lot of 1 star reviews recently.

I think you'd be able to use google voice? Don't believe it's a native iPad app, so you'd have to 2x it, but it'd work.

Yeah, I think the website works fine too. You could use that for the actual messages and maybe keep the app around for push notifications if you want.

I guess my thoughts about Time Warner doing some data prioritization voodoo for their app might be correct:

The application turns the iPad into an additional television, enabling Cablevision customers to view the same live programming and VOD content already being delivered to other TVs in the home as part of the service they have paid for. Apple knows how to make a great advertisements for sure. At the same time it's really annoying ad because they advertise how iPad 2 is faster, thinner etc. and then say how none of it matter. Having their cake and eating it too :/

I really want a tablet and i kinda like android interface better but the app support is dismal. Hopefully the next iOS version is going to be big update and include at least widgets and better notifications. Hardware wise iPad 2 would be go for me, but the os just feels old at this point so i'm going to hold my purchase until either ios gets better or android tablet app catalog expands.

Eh. They specifically said those things are all great, but those alone aren't enough. It's an ad basically reiterating what Jobs said at the iPad 2 event concerning technology needing excellence in user experience (software).

I really shouldn't have bought a 16GB WiFi model, I should have got the 3G.

I'm trying to sell mine (unopened still) for the difference that it will cost me to buy a 3G one off Craigslist.

why not just buy a mifi device from verizon and u can pair many devices on it.

Well even easier is the fact that I can just use personall hot-spot for free on my iPhone (Canadian) and that was my plan from the beggining. But adding data to my cell plan is pricey ($35.00 for 3GB (that includes whatever I use on my iPhone)). So It seemed more worth while to spend $35.00 a month for a Data Plan for just the 3G iPad (Which gives me 5GB).
 
Optimum app for iPad..... WOW. 300 live channels, DVR recording, great interface... this device is mindblowing.

Air Video, Drop Box, now Optimum... what are other must-have apps?

How much data are you really using on your iPad is probably a good question. I guess if you're doing massive video streaming than the 35 dollar option makes sense but for general browsing 250MB worked pretty well...

The 3G versions are the tard packs of iPads.

I'm really not sure how much Data I will use, because I think I am confused about how data is calculated on a cell phone.

Right now I use 1GB per month rougly on my iPhone.. It was my understanding up until last night that data was only used/counted when I went online. However when I was looking at my usage last night I saw that it calls it 'Cellular Data'. So I am thinking now perhaps when I talk on the phone that uses data as well? I work out of town so I am often on the phone with my girlfriend/family for extended periods of time... So I sort of think THAT is why my usage is so high. Does that sound right?

THe optimum App is astounding ...

This is coming from a person that prays a begs everyday that verizon finally comes to my building.

I was expecting a few channels and that's it. What i got was the potential for one of a great tv interface ever.

Would fetching data every 15 minutes really do that? I cannot imagine it takes more than a few hundred kb to simply check the server for email?

I've changed it to Manual now, hopefully that helps.

Edit: How about Facebook and MSN? Are they trying to pull data even if they aren't running.

I am trying hard to figure out how I am burning through 1GB of data... The most data intensive things I do on my phone are browse GAF and Reddit... Besides that I hardly use data.
 
Gotta pimp stereogram3d... Dunno if it's free but I just revisited it again, and having magic eye illusion/3d and it working... Surprising good = a neat diversionary thing
