Would fetching data every 15 minutes really do that? I cannot imagine it takes more than a few hundred kb to simply check the server for email?

I've changed it to Manual now, hopefully that helps.

Edit: How about Facebook and MSN? Are they trying to pull data even if they aren't running.

I am trying hard to figure out how I am burning through 1GB of data... The most data intensive things I do on my phone are browse GAF and Reddit... Besides that I hardly use data.

If they aren't running they don't have the ability to pull data, just send notifications.

Use the NeoGAF web app and make it so that it requires you to selectively view images. Some GIFs can take up multiple MBs.

You view them in your browser at instapaper.com.

Yes, it should sync across with the same Instapaper account.

So how is the iPad 2 for online productivity?

IE. Apps for Outlining, Typing Documents quickly, FTP, Spreadsheet management, copying & pasting info back and forth, etc. Is anyone using one for work full time?

I'm at the point where I want to get rid of my laptop completely, and have a desktop that's always on somewhere remotely that I can access with my iPad.

Is there anything that I can use to make the iPad 2 louder? When I cup my hand around the speaker and direct the sound toward me it gets a lot louder. Is there any small little device that can do this for me without the use of my hand?

Man, Tunes Remote is an awesome app for me. I can stick my iPod in my dock that's connected to my big ass speakers and control all my music from my iPad.

eeehhhhhh. I would rather use a lightweight laptop for the things you describe. the ipad can do some of those things well (outlining and typing notes - if you have a wireless keyboard) but once you get into copying and pasting lots of info between apps many times and using large spreadsheets on a frequent basis, it hits the limit.

I've used one for work in the past, creating outlines and spreadsheets. outlining was fine, spreadsheets was fine to enter info but not great at formatting and moving data sets between pages.

it served me well as it was so light and the battery lasted an entire shift. but if i needed to do the work you describe every day, I would rather use a macbook air or something of similar quality.

Wait, an iPad can control an iPod? Or did I read that wrong?

Yeah what I meant was that the app "Tunes Remote" can control an iPod Touch's (or iPhone's) music app fully from the iPad.

Business card and a piece of tape? Make your iPad louder for yourself and advertise your business at the same time!

Really nice! Makes me wish I had a stylus for drawing. Did we ever decide which one was the best?

Also, what exactly is the benefit of making your app free temporarily? It's not like they'll get money from the downloaders, so what are they benefiting from it aside from publicity?

Also, whenever I hear the word "Procreate" I always think of this now...

I had a poster on my wall for a while.

Publicity and free reviews. More positive reviews, the better (especially compared to the more established Brushes app).

This has recently become relevant to my interest, as I've used the Penultimate app a couple of times in the past two days to draw up some simple diagrams and notes.

Would love to get some input

You also push your app up the charts, where more people will notice it even after it's gone back to pay. Tried and true technique.

Boxwave (and Griffin/Targus/Acase/etc) is the least bad one, one guy likes some other ones but they cost a lot more iirc. There's also a DIY one that might be awesome if you make it right (search for "superfine" or "potato chip" stylus on YouTube).

Hey guys whats a good universal driver's side car mount for iPad 2?
Velcro?

This has probably been asked before but I just got an Ipad and was wondering, what is the best way to stream videos from my desktop to it?

your choice between air video or streamtome, imo

Instead of tucking the smart cover behind the iPad when using it (in Potrait), I tried folding it in half then holding the cover and pad in tandem as if it were an open book. :)

Anyone else having trouble with the App store? I find that it just sits saying "loading" forever unless I turn the iPad2 off then back on again, after which it loads fine once or twice. Also, StreamToMe seems to be unable to find the server on my PC most times. Maybe I am having a problem with my network connection?

What do ya'll think about the Dodo cases?

Few questions mostly regarding apps that sync on android.

What is the best free google reader app? I've got a few but not too thrilled about them.

Looking for a simple checkbook application that will sync between droid and the ipad, I'm using pageonce right now.

Lastly, I hate evernote on the ipad, you can't even edit your docs :( Would this change if I paid for it? What is everyone else using/recommend? I bought penultimate.. holy shit, if this only synced to my phone

I had one for my OG iPad, but I prolly won't get one for my 2. It looks like it adds way too much bulk, which takes away part of the beauty of the device. If it wasn't so thick, I'd prolly order another.

Random question in iBooks ..

But when I choose the Line display to show my PDF's and Books, on the right side of the screen there seems to be a description or comment about the PDF or Book that I want to delete.

Trouble is, I can't find where description is in iTunes at all. If anyone that knows what I am talking about (if you don't, choose the line view in iBooks too and you'll probably notice writing on the right side).

If someone can tell me how to delete what every is there that would be great!

EDIT: Found where it is but can't delete it. It's when I find the actual file in the Mac and go to Get Info, it is under "More Info" and Description. How do I edit it?

The Octavo and Portenzo are lighter, thinner, and offer more features (like an auto-wake cover, among other things).

Thinner (first one at least) but I'm not sure about lighter...particularly since all Dodo says for weight is "just over 1/2 lb." But yeah if you're going to get some fat book looking thing that looks better.

How can I tell if a game is made for iPad? It is very hard to see for the CAVE games for example...
If it has a "+" in the Buy/Free button it's universal, otherwise if it's iPad only (and you can't tell from the screens) it'll say "Compatible with iPad" under requirements, vs most iPhone stuff which lists everything.

The Cave games are iPhone/iPod, but play fine on iPad (Espg.II and DDP:R at least). If you're not sure about it, like how the graphics scale, they have demos of their games to check for yourself.

Dirty iPad 1 user here, but I just wanted to comment on the beta gestures in 4.3, which I got around to enabling today. They really do make the whole experience far smoother, not to mention taking the stress of the one button which is inevitably ruined over time otherwise. Being able to cycle through apps with a horizontal swipe is particularly useful, and I seem to be using the multitask bar (4-finger swipe up) more as well. They probably represent one of the more promising features set to launch in iOS 5, given they seem to be more or less the biggest shift in the process of operating iOS in some time, better delivering on the potential of multitouch. I'm just surprised it took this long.
