What apps do you guys recommend for management of PDFs? Basically, I am woking on a big IT project at work and thus have a lot of PDFs I need to digest and documentation. I'm sort of looking at Papers, but are there other apps for PDFs that I could maybe group/tag PDFs in a "library" and perhaps annotate as well?

I have papers, but I thought it was mostly cool because it would sync with the desktop version.

What do you think of iBooks for PDFs?

GoodReader, Box.net, or PrintCentral depending on what your needs are in relationship to those PDFs. You can have file structures and organization with almost all of them, but some do certain things better than others. GoodReader is probably your best overall bet, but if you need to print, PrintCentral, etc.

anyone having problem watching youtube vid on their iCab?

when I copy paste a youtube link it just shows a blank screen. happened just yesterday

Why isn't there a good display extender app for the iPad? Display Link is great for playing games, but lacks the touch screen functionality I want and Air Display sucks in general. The performance is worse than DL, it instantly kills Aero, when I connect it and it completely messed up my last ATI driver update.

The Display Link FAQ mentions touchscreen functionality for a future update, but that was in January and nothing happened since then. Anything else on the market?

Are there any substitues for Zumocast? I'd like to recommend an app that offers an online login and doesn't require any port setup (which rules out AirVideo, Streamtome etc)...

Did you try iDisplay? It just got a new version update.

Anyone know how long iCarbon's skin's shipping usually takes to Canada (BC)?

Site says 2-5 weeks Internationally, 2 weeks minimum is still quite a bit of time considering it's only the US

I have a feeling when iOS5 releases I'll bite on an iPad 2.

ugh...

iPad 3 wait is too long.
It will be the same screen man, the same screen. More RAM is tempting, but I still don't feel that 512 is enough. I'll be ready for that UXGA screen, a quad and a gig of RAM. Okay, not sure if they'll really put a quad in it, but more RAM and that res is enough for me to wait.

I know, I know.

Wouldn't the 3 have to have a quad-A6 in it to power the resolution? I thought that was a no-brainer. Could a A5 handle it?

I bought one this past Saturday and had to go back to the apple store on Sunday in order to exchange it for another because it had scratches on the back and a dent on the bezel. I eventually found a model that seemed to be in pristine quality, but once I got home I found out that it had a dead pixel. Went the next day to exchange it again for another iPad, but it had a dent near the auxiliary port, a dead pixel, and a scratch on the back. Long story short the only option that was left was to give me a full refund for the iPad 2.

Have any of you had this problem with the iPad?
Is there another store that will have pristine iPads?

I love the product and I know it will eventually get scratched, but I expect to be in excellent quality right out of the box.

where are you reading it will be the same screen when everything I've read is saying the iPad 3 will have the retina screen. That's the main reason I'm waiting

I was talking about the iPad 2 screen, because he wanted to get one, instead of waiting a bit more for the high res iPad 3.

I received an ipad2 at work (hundreds given out to staff) and I've been addicted to it. My first apple product, and although I'll never be a rabid fanboy (ugh), I've got to admit that I'm pleasantly surprised with apple's tech.

yeah, my only prior apple product was a 2nd gen ipod shuffle in 2006 or whenever, and it soured me on their products. It was a piece of shit that got corrupted pretty quickly and itunes sucked ass on windows.

I never considered buying apple products again until I bought the $99 HP Touchpad and got interested in the ipad. Now I'm even considering moving from Android to the new iphone.

generally the way it is. i'd never had any apple product until 2007, not even an ipod, when I got a macbook and decided to learn another OS (pretty much Windows my whole life). I was pretty impressed, especially considering I was coming from XP. suddenly realized that all the os warz bs I had read online was even more exaggerated than I expected.

You'll surprise yourself. You start off praising their stuff, and soon you'll be a bonafide ADF member. Thing is, you won't even notice, nor admit the transition.

Yup. Started with the first video iPod and then with the recent iPod touch and soon to be iPad. My wife had a few of the iPod nano's and now an older MacBook Pro. I've been very impressed with the usability of the software and hardware design. I haven't made the move from PC to Mac, but I could see myself doing that when we upgrade laptops a year or so down the road.

They have usability down so well. Other platforms have more features, more freedom, things that should really matter, but in the end they just don't run as smoothly, and often the hardware feels cheap. When it comes to moment-to-moment usage, there's no shame in admitting that Apple is far ahead of the competition in the smartphone and tablet spaces.

This sums up my thoughts well. I love my Droid X because of all the "openness" it has compared to Apple products by way of being able to do things like side loading apps, overclocking hardware, installing new UI's, etc but Apple has always had the hardware and usability down perfectly. My Droid X runs well, but you still notice hitches when scrolling, opening apps, etc whereas on an iPad or iPhone everything runs so smooth.

Wish we could have the best of both worlds. :P

Alright, I read through all 141 pages. Loads of useful information found!

Which remote desktop app do you guys recommending the most?
A lot of people mentioned splashtop, but I rarely saw logmein ignition. I don't mind paying the $30 for logmein but if splashtop will do just the same for $3 then I'm sold

I bought Logmein when it was £12, the most I've spent on an app, but it works well and I'm happy.

Not sure if the free apps can do it just as well

I never used the expensive app, but Splashtop has not gave my any problem, and does everything I want. In fact, in the 6 months of using it. I have only had one problem connecting - and that was of my own making due to a mess up with my router.

The only real "problem" I have with Splashtop is that it is near constantly updating. So you are always downloading the new version on both he PC/iPad almost every week. However, those are constantly making the experience better, so it is worth it.

Just tried out Splashtop. As far as I am concerned, it is dark wizardry. I'm not sure the price I'll have to pay for an app that works as easily as that and which allows me to access my porn work files on the go, but it's going to be heavy.

So worth the 3 bucks.

I just wish Windows would recognize the iPad automagically as a touch device.

Not sure what you mean, but I just dl'd it, played with it, then realized I have nothing to use it for right now....lol.

But I know it's going to come in handy.

EDIT: You know what would be cool, but would probably be impossible? If you could move files to your iPad through the remote desktop.

Windows 7 recognizes touchscreens and replaces the mouse cursor with touch input. Scrolling with your finger and multi touch within Windows is the main reason I want it.

I assume you meant 8?

Has anyone ever dealt with bitemyapple.co ? I'm seriously considering the Adonit jot pro stylus right now but buying from the adonit site means I have to wait at least 2 weeks before they ship whereas bitemyapple supposedly has a ton in stock (supposedly an authorized reseller though I can't find any info on their site). I've never ordered from these guys so I'm a bit weary...

Does anyone know of a browser that lets you whitelist cookies from certain domains and automatically remove all other cookies when closing? Like a privacy mode with exclusions?

The reason being using Firefox desktop I like to have all my cookies/history etc cleared when closing apart from a few sites which I have set up exceptions for so I stay logged in (Google, NeoGaf type sites)

Just bought another one from Wal-Mart and it had a pretty big scratch/scuff right out of the box, went back and returned in just a matter of minutes and got a full refund. Idk at this point I'll either give up and wait for iPad 3, or I'll try out best buy. I know there's a huge demand for them, but c'mon son.

Went to another wal-mart and bought the iPad 2 again and the damn thing had a scratch on the back and a dead pixel. I'm at a loss for words man I wish apple would put some quality control into their products. Went through 6 iPads and all of them were flawed right out of the box. CMON SON.

I have to ask at this point. Why the heck are you shopping at Walmart? I would probably cruise to different Apple stores 99 times out of a hundred. And if that failed I'd go to Best Buy.

Also, this goes without saying but open that stuff at the store. Save yourself the trip...

I guess your right, it's just that the wal-mart I bought it from was the closest place I could get it from. I did open it there but I couldn't activate it on my mac because I needed to be online to do so. I'll probably try a best buy or another apple store next time. Sorry for the confusion guys. Going through 4 iPad 2s at the apple store really surprised me.

I gotta say, you might have the worst luck in the world. If scratches and dents and dead pixels (especially in combination) were a common problem it would be all over the place, I would think. I've never heard of anything like that happening.

You have a point there man, but dammit I'm still trying and will not stop. As long as they get fully refunded.

Is there an app that displays powerpoint slides in all their glory (videos, animations, hyperinks etc) and allows imports of the proper fonts where appropriate? I don't need an editor, just a viewer that doesn't give any errors.

I'd like to know as well. From what I've read in here, it'll be keynote. But I wanna see some different suggestions

I have problems with Keynote :(

I'm going to experiment with MightyMeeting and Brainshark. Either should be better than using a remote connection to run and stream MS Powerpoint from my desktop

How can I minimize an email message within the mail client?
I can open it, move it, mark unread, delete it, but otherwise the last opened message stays open.
(Hope that makes sense)

Backup contacts to PC, sync to iPad
Doesn't seem to do it. I back the whole iPod up, but the iPad gets no contacts. I checked my iPod, under Info, and "Sync contacts..." but that list under is empty. On the iPod itself, all my contacts are under the "On my iPod" group.

Everything is on my language, so the exact terms might not be right but... yeah.
