How hard is it to consolidate Apple IDs? After my first iPad 2 was stolen, I bought a new one but couldn't associate it with my Apple ID and had to make a new one.

As far as I can recall you can not currently consolidate Apple IDs. However, I remember seeing a rumor a couple weeks ago that because of iOS5 and Cloud computing, Apple may be working on coming out with a way to do so in the near future.

Do I have to wait for the AppleTV update for the "air play video enabled by default" thing to work? Apps that don't explicitly support it still don't have the option.

I needed to ask:

So I was uploading a bunch of photos onto my iPad from iTunes, at least 20gb worth of it at least.
Now my hard drive has lil space left cause of that transfer and my iPad doesn't have the photos I wanted (cause i ran out of hard drive space). How can I restore the space I lost?

100MB is way too small.

I think so too, but to be honest back when I was considering buying an iPad 2, I was going to go with the wifi model anyway.

I guess if I think about it, this Softbank deal isn't really any good, huh. I mean I'm still paying for the iPad itself, it's just over the course of 24 months so it doesn't feel like a big purchase I guess..

http://thisismynext.com/2011/10/10/facebook-for-ipad-finally-announced-iphone-app-update/

Facebook is finally (and we mean finally!) rolling out Facebook for iPad. And surprisingly, it looks almost identical to the version we saw leaked out back in July with a nice two-pane view and strong resemblance to the iPhone app. We’ll probably never know what took so long, but the app doesn’t include any of the new Facebook features, including Timeline view. That’s said, it does include lots of other platform favorites, including chat, full-screen games, and News Feed notifications. So, when can say goodbye to third-party apps like Friendly Plus and Facepad + or at least stick ‘em in a faux Facebook app folder? Today! The app should be available in the App Store momentarily.

Fuck yes.

Safari on iOS 5 is fucking great, Although I will miss gestures in iCab I am definitely moving back.

Is it faster? because currently it is a joke of tiny gray squares, even on text only pages.

I'me being trolled. I see the 4.0 version with iPad support on both iTunes and iPad but when I download it, it's the same old 3.5 :/

Thanks for mentioning the release of the Facebook app.

Edit: oops problem works now.

Also, the beta Itunes is a little buggy on Windows (but that's nothing new).

do most folks use that special second apps version or gaf on their iPad or the regular gaf? I like second apps for the inline videos

I just noticed that I wasted one of my licenses, when I had to reinstall Windows few weeks ago and now I have only 4 out of 5 left.

What exactly are the steps to properly deactivate a license for a computer/device? I'm 110% sure that I clicked on "deactivate this computer", before I reinstalled Windows, but it seems that it wasn't enough.

I use Secondapps, although naturally I don't sign in and I do all my moderation stuff through actual GAF.

I use regular gaf almost exclusively on high resolution devices such as the iPad and the iPhone. I get inline videos and tap-on-spoilers via bookmarklets. I use second apps on lower resolution devices (i.e. every smartphone aside from the iPhone4) and occasionally use it on the iPad/iPhone4 for quickly growing threads such as the Apple Events threads, TV show threads as the episodes are airing, the Soccer thread during popular matches, E3 keynote threads etc.

I absolutely love ckohler's app on my Ipad. I think it is a better experience than browsing regular gaf on my pc.
It's probably one of the best web apps I've ever used. He should sell it to other boards, because most of the time I wish I could browse them like GAF.

So the girlfriend changed her mind today from wanting a notebook to an iPad. I offered to put up $200 as a Christmas gift, so I think we might hop over to Best Buy Saturday and sign up for their 18 months financing. A 32GB would come out to $25 a month for her which is completely reasonable.

Any recommended cases or accessories we should check out?

Rumor: Apple working on cheaper iPad?

Apple's iPad tablet may be getting a cheaper version, if a new rumor is to be believed. Business Insider reports that according to a note to investors by Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White, Apple is working on a lower cost version of the tablet which could be priced in the "mid-to-high $200 range." The new version could be released sometime in early 2012. White said that Apple is still working on the iPad 3, which would be more powerful than the current iPad 2 and would be priced at the current price ranges for the normal iPad. The iPad 3 could come out in the second quarter of 2012, White claims that he received this info while talking to smartphone manufacturers in China and Taiwan.

The report didn't go into any details about the hardware specs of this "mini iPad" although White did say that the smaller price might not mean that this version of the iPad will be physically smaller than the current version.

Do want, if not crippled too much.

I'd suggest looking into a keyboard case if she wants to use it as a laptop. I have a logitech one that I like a lot.

"analyst"

Oh, so it's just a guy making shit up and getting paid for it.

If you see "analyst" anywhere in an Apple story, it's just made up bullshit. One of the tech blogs did a great chart showing how bloggers are more accurate than analysts. Analysts made up the entire bottom 50% of the chart in prediction accuracy while bloggers were the top 50%.

I wish this came to America even if its just 100 MB

Agreed, I'd gladly justify the extra price for a 3G model if I could spread out the cost like ths. Unfortunately, our mobile telecom market would have to be way more competitive than it is now if this was going to happen in the US.

So, what are good sites for app reviews and news? Checked the OP but didn't see any links. AppAdvice is the only semi-decent one I've found so far.

The Courier lives!

Okay, parts of it.

As an iPad app.

When I first came across “Clibe”, I was immediately struck by how much it reminded me of the Courier concept images and videos (emphasis concept). From the way how the digital ink looked to the concept based around journals, I knew there was more to this than meets the eye. And there is.

It turns out the company behind the app is Visere, a digital creative agency who has done contractual design work in the past. You’ve probably worked it out by now that Microsoft was one of their clients.

Since you can never be too sure, I later found the last piece of the puzzle in the resume of Adam Wulf, a director there who claims “our work includes Microsoft’s Courier user experience”. Bingo.

Although Clibe doesn’t do nearly as much as what was envisioned for Courier (which I believe to have been overly exaggerated), it lives within the confines of the iPad, it does take one of the ideas and execute it very well – digital journals.

As an example of how refined it is, users can customize the cover of their journals and even publish them online as an interactive HTML5-powered book (a portrayed feature of Courier too).

It's free for a limited time.

I played with it for a while and liked it. Could be a bit faster on my first gen iPad, but whatever. I think I'll get a Jot for this.

I don't know if I switch back to browsing through safari now that it's supposedly faster, and has tabbing. Or if I should stick with my Atomic Web (the only reason I like it is cause of tabs and full screen) but I wouldnt mind sacrificing full screen for a faster safari browser

Which one?

found a chunk of dust under my screen today. trying to live with it, I already exchanged my iPad once for display issues don't feel like doing it again

iOS5 has broken my iCab :(

thankfully Safari is more usable than before with tabs. it's still not as good as iCab (lack of swipes, etc), but it'll do until iCab gets an update.
