Don't be silly. Of course I was using the webapp! But, APB2 makes even that awesome experiance better.

Apple is so fucking weird. They reject apps for "duplicating existing functionality" but allow other browsers to be in the app store. If those apps don't duplicate built in functionality what does? :lol

I'm not sure myself, but chances are the api they use is still safari - it probably just skins it.

No, just go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add account > Other > Add CalDAV Account, and enter:

Server: www.google.com
username: yourusername@gmail.com
password: yourpassword
Descreption: whatever

Now, this will add your main google calendar to the iPod. It will sync automatically via web, no iTunes, no nothing required.

However if you have subcalendars, and you want to sync them too, you'll have to add them one by one, and it's a bit more complicated process, but it's doable.

Mind you, what this will do will be adding a new calendar account to your calendar app, other than the "All on My iPod" (or something equivalent) default one, and I believe that it will not port your current "All on My iPod" events.

But on the calendar app you can change the calendar you're using to either your google cal account or to "All Calendars" and make sure that the events that you add are under your G cal account, because these are the ones that will sync.
 
I recently downloaded the Kindle App...all I can say is damn. It has quite a few text size and color options, pages can be bookmarked and the first book I bought, a new release priced at $25 in store, was only $9. I'm late to the ebook party, but I was pretty impressed by how all of this was tied together.

I would prefer I could buy books from within the app rather than have it launch Safari (especially since I don't even use Safari as my browser), but it's become essential to me.

I'd also like to quickly recommend Battery Magic (free) for using your left over battery power wisely and Fluent News (again for anyone who missed it). Awesome news aggregation.

Careful...the Kindle app was a gateway drug to me actually getting a Kindle :lol

Beautiful thing is that the app and the device can live in harmony together, whatever you buy on one can be easily downloaded to the other. Whatever page you leave off on on one, you automatically pick it up from there on the other.

Was never much of a traditional reader, but the Kindle app + Kindle are changing that pretty damn fast.

Oh man. I was eyeing up Kindles and e-readers in general (want to get back into reading sans books), and then remembered the Kindle App. At the moment, I'm going through Classics to see if I can stomach e-reading on an iPhone. I like the presentation on Classics.

I can read on the iPhone for a bit, but the battery drain and the small screen get to me if I do it for too long (not the backlight bothering me, mind you). I mainly use it on the john at work, and the Kindle itself when I'm around the house or just going to bed.

Good times.

Navigon Mobile Navigator. it’s pricey at 90 bucks but well worth it if you need dedicated gps software. it’s the real deal. turn by turn and text to speech capabilities. and a future (paid) update coming later with real time traffic info.

if you’re on a budget, use the built in Maps app for free as it still use GPS or spend 35 bucks for co-pilot live. another turn by turn gps app.
 
I need recommendations on a calendar app. I have looked eventhorizon, pocketinformant and saisuke but they all seem to lack notifications which I think is very essential.

I'm not sure what you need by notifications, but the default calendar app for me notifies me with events.

The advantage that some of the default apps, regardless of their overall utility, is that they CAN run in the background (or a process can).

Are Ipod Touches not capable of handling the exchange support google offers for iPhones with Google Sync?
 
what would you guys recommend for the best internet radio streaming app?

I think I have it narrowed down to PocketTunes and Wunder Radio. Is one better than the other, or have I missed one? I see PocketTunes has Sirius support, but I don't have the internet listening plan anyway.

I basically want to be able to search for radio stations in other cities and stream them to my phone.
 
Anyone know if there's a good visualizer app for the iphone? I've often got my iPhone playing music in the dock and am getting bored of seeing just the album artwork.

I use FStream (free) for Internet Radio / Shoutcast stuff. You can even record to the iPhone and download the recordings to your PC over WiFi. If you are looking for terrestrial radio by location streamed over the Internet I think Wunder Radio is probably best. They don't have any Clear Channel stations IIRC. For those I use I Heart Radio, which is free.

Or if you're up for something different I highly recommend Soul Trapper. And interactive Audio Adventure game. It's like an interactive audiobook. I really enjoyed it.
 
Is there any reason to buy beejive ($9.99) over IM+ ($4.99) as of right now ?

I just want to be able to msn my girlfriend since she's at school and has a shitty cellphone that can't sms well (cumbersome and delayed).

this is prob. skating OT, but I didn't think it warranted it's own thread. Anyway, I just ordered a 64GB iPod Touch, and was wondering what the best, most economically sound case is out there for this bastard? Any thoughts? :D

Personall,y I don't use a case, and just use a small bag/sleeve for when my iPhone is in my pocket. During use I just have it naked.

Wow, I just downloaded Wunder Radio and it's nuts.

Was listening to a Detroit radio station broadcast the Steelers/Lions game on my way home from my wife's parent's house...in good quality without static and only minor blips in connection due to driving into various areas of coverage.

FM Tuner? Who needs that shit? If you don't want it, it's not included, if you do want it, you pay 7 bucks for Wunder Radio and get access to radio stations across the entire country.

FM Tuner: 0 - Wunder Radio: 1

Just awesome.
 
Please excuse me for my ignorance but what do you guys use google reader for? If I understand it correctly you point a lot of RSS feeds to it and it shows them in one place right?
Never used RSS feed before what are they useful for? Like what sites do you connect to google reader?

Once again please excuse me for my ignorance I just want to see if I can find it useful as well :)

I use Wunder Radio too and it's definitely worth the money. Having access to hundreds of radio stations is awesome. You even have access to international stations.

Heh, makes sense that they'd put direct links to the songs on iTunes for purchasing. Apple's making it cause there's money to be made!

I use Comic Reader Mobi.

With ComicSync (a desktop client, available for Windows and Mac, made by the developer of the app) you may load the comics unto the iPhone through the USB cord. You could also use DiskAid or other applications that allow you to connect to the iPhone's media folder through USB. Another option is to set up a FTP server with the ComicReader Mobi app and transfer the files over WiFi. If your iPhone is jailbroken you may download comics directly from websites through Safari and then copy to the ComicReader Mobi folder as the app doesn't require any special formatting to read the comics (assuming the comics are one in the internet-sharing standard formats--.cbr, .rar, .cbz and .zip).

For me, the benefit of RSS feeds is they update themselves. For example, my Google homepage has RSS feeds from game sites like Gamespot, Kotaku, and Joystiq. When a new story is posted on those sites, the RSS feed updates my homepage automatically, and I see a link to the new story without having to refresh my page. I also follow non-gaming sites like Sherdog for MMA news, Yahoo for general news and entertainment, the LA Times for local news in my area, etc.

To find an RSS feed, look at the bottom or on the columns of a lot of sites for a link to their RSS feed. Once you get used to it, it becomes second nature finding an RSS feed for a site you visit regularly.

I find RSS feeds incredibly helpful for staying on top of news and blogs I keep track of. Sure beats having a bunch of bookmarks I look at every so often, and end up missing half of what's going on.
 
google reader in the iphone is great! you can get your news so much faster and i love the fact that it syncs my already read articles between my desktop and phone.

Yes. It replaces browsing individual sites. It's always the first thing I open.

My bookmarks are my feed reader, web applications that don't really work in feed form, and places to pay bills.
