The payoff is either 1) AJ is behind them, is evil, 2) Roman's evil and behind them and its all a swerve, or 3) They're just generally evil and neither AJ or Roman is evil.

I would imagine No. 3 unless Vince is dumb enough to turn a super over guy he just signed for no real reason.

I think the audience is already well aware that AJ is super short. He debuted at the Rumble where he looked tiny next to all the bigger guys. Looked short next to Jericho and his lift shoes as well.

Edit:
He's super shit on the mic though, for sure.

Amusingly enough I was talking about Finn, but it applies equally to AJ, although Finn has a lot more internal hype than Styles did.

The AJ/Roman thing has an interesting dynamic where AJ is being treated like a heel without actually doing any heel stuff.

I'm really hoping they don't ruin a competent storyline by revealing who Gallows/Anderson are working for ahead of Payback itself. I don't think anyone realistically expects Styles to win at Payback, so the only real question surrounding the match itself has to be the Bullet Club thing.

AJ has good facials and a lot of physical charisma. He doesn't take himself too seriously and is fun to watch.

Finn is just a guy with good abs who has consistently disappointing matches.

I think my issue is that random episodes of NXT are consistently overrated, particularly during his tenure as the champion. Finn barely interacted with anyone directly the entire time other than Samoa Joe coming out and murdering him several times and then Finn winning the match for no reason.

In fact, as far as I recall he only feuded with 2 guys the entire time for the title; Owens and Joe and he was never going to outwork either one of them at either wrestling or on the mic.

I think the TakeOver specials are consistently higher quality than the similar main roster events, but the average episodes are extremely forgettable more often than not.
