Arcade Fire announce "The Suburbs"

They played Paris Rock en Seine festival last night. The gig was great, (Beirut made a quick appareance during Ocean of Noise) until a big rain shower fell during We Used To Wait. It gave an epic proportion to the song but right after it, the gig was cut by the festival staff because of risk of electrocution...

They decided to come back for one song. Wake up in acoustic.

It's was both epic and frustating. Especially for me, who was seeing them for the first time.
The Irony was that when they finished Wake Up, the rain stopped, but it was too late, the stage was flooded.

But anyway, the beginning of the show was great, the band was happy to be here and full of energy and the visuals were so classy.

After taking a couple of weeks off from this album, I came back to it today and it really clicked (Suburban War especially — really powerful song). The only song I still don't care for is Wasted Hours, but it might eventually grow on me.

I hadn't heard of Arcade Fire until that recent Chrome HTML5 Google Maps Video-Thing, but I just spend a good portion of the day listening to their albums on Napster, and I must say I really like their music.

I *really* like The Suburbs, Ready to Start, Suburban War and The Suburbs (continued) on their latest album. I'm definitely going to be buying these songs at least and listening to them a lot. Other than Month of May, which I flat out dislike, I'm fairly indifferent on the rest of the album.

I love Month of May. Arcade Fire does punk rock.

Awesome!! Make sure to post a review when you see that show. That place looks incredible
SIMPLY AMAZING

They sold 300 tickets to the show. It seemed like it was literally in someones backyard. I got there early with friends and went to a bar up the street. We got back a half hour after the line formed. When we got in I WAS IN THE 2ND ROW. I was right next to Regine and a step away from Win. It was such a great show. Every cheer could be heard with such a small crowd. During one song, Win left the stage through the crowd and stood behind it to watch the band for a bit before his part came up.

The only part that kinda sucked is it rained during power out, but it was so awesome seeing the band play in the rain during power out. It was epic. The roadies were scrambling to cover everything. When this happened this skipped the encore charade and moved straight into wake up, skipping intervention according to their set list.

I hope I don't forget this show because it was that amazing. It didn't matter that I saw them at the Greek 4 days before. I was 25+ yards back at that show and 1 yard back here. It was great to see the band in action and a lot of fun. I drove 4 hours each way to see them and it was amazing.

I left right when the show ended. I wish I would have stuck around because I heard the band came back out later and hung out on the deck drinking and signing stuff, but I got back at 3am leaving as soon as the concert ended anyways.

Damnit, what site should i dump these pics at?

They're gonna play SNL on November 13. I had actually just been thinking that they're due to be on it again, after how great the first time was. Scarlett Johansson is hosting.

Nice! Can't wait.

I have to say I was really disappointed by the album. Seems to lack enough progression, and is kinda boring actually. I'll give it another shot, maybe just bad first impression.

I can't stop listening to Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains). It's just so good.

Soooooo good. :D

Albums that are awesome on the first listen rarely have longevity, and this album is a real grower.

The Suburbs is a grower without a single doubt. Some folks might "get it" the first time, but even then there's a lot of space for certain tracks to get better with more listens.

amazing, they finally get it right!
Now throw Teen Dream by Beach House, The Fool by Warpaint, The Monitor by Titus Andronicus, New Chain by Small Black and Clinging to a Scheme by The Radio Dept and then they will have gotten their Album of the Year category correct.

Look at the competition though:
Arcade Fire- The Suburbs
Eminem- Recovery
Lady Antebellum- Need You Now
Lady Gaga- The Fame Monster
Katy Perry- Teenage Dream

:/

Oh well, at least they got one right.

And Deerhunter and Future Islands and Diamond Rings and everything else that was good.

Oh snaps, Eminem confirmed for winner ;p

If they lost, it would be a travesty. Yet, if they won, it'd be weird. The band and album are on a completely different level than the other contenders.

And this is true even when factoring in the flawed hater logic of "Arcade Fire are terrible now that they have a radio single and are even remotely mainstream."

It's amazingly obvious that Arcade Fire deserve the recognition, but at the same time, they stand out like a sore thumb in the running. They don't seem like they should be there.

It will at least make for a hilarious acceptance speech, if they even show up.

It's fuckin' ridikulus that MBDTF didn't make the list but this album did. This album is only a 7.5-8 tops. Arcade Fire have had their spotlight. They're playing at Madison Square! Everyone knows "Wake Up." It's time for other artists to shine etc.

Arcade Fire isn't exactly indie anymore...
Yeah, when two of your songs are used as bumps during the Superbowl, you're no longer indie. Arcade Fire is very popular.

I love Arcade Fire, but I thought this was their weakest album. It's still good but not as memorable.

I don't think MBDTF is eligible this year, AvidNobody. The cut off date was prior to it coming out.

In the great history of Award Shows, they always seem to nominate good artists for their worst works. Scorsese with Aviator. Denzel for Training Day. And now The Suburbs.

Godspeed, I guess.

To bring some of the controversial music opinion thread into this one:

The Suburbs is arguably Arcade Fire's best work.
Neon Bible is their worst but it's still fantastic and underrated.
Wake Up wasn't even the best song on Funeral.

I completely agree with every single one of those. :D

I really don't think I could choose one album over the others. They're all fantastic, and each completely different.

Neon Bible is better than Funeral.

I've probably said this before, but I hate hate hate Neon Bible's opening song. Whenever I think "I want to listen to Arcade Fire" those notes pop into my head and suddenly I never want to listen to AF again.

It really sucks :/ (the song and my association of it with AF as a whole)

Neon Bible is extremely underrated, but I think it's better than Suburbs. Suburbs has a few growers but as a whole it sounds too similar. There is build up in all of the songs but no release. The arguable standout track is Sprawl II and besides being awesome, it sounds different from any other song on the album- besides the point that it was Regine singing. It also has tension and release, which most of the other songs on the album lack.

I think you are confusing The Aviator with The Departed.

I disagree. Black Mirror is great.

Funeral > The Surburbs > Neon Bible
I can barely understand other rankings, personally. Funeral is godly.
And :lol :lol :lol at Kanye needing recognition over AF

Also, seems like they're just nominating it to get the sort of "indie crowd" to watch a shitty awards show where shitty music gets rewarded.

The Grammys are far and away the least respectable of all the 'serious' award shows in any medium, so this doesn't really mean anything.

I mean, Katy Perry is nominated for album of the year. So bad.
