As a non sports guy, I cnt help but causually notice. The NBA finals seem like they are on ..every week of the year? Yes I'm kind of joking but really..I see commercials all year round for it

Am I imagining it ? Is it like the store that is always "going out of business "?

Money talks. They don't care about player safety.
Player safety? It’s fucking basketball. I get these guys get hurt but it’s not football. These dudes are not getting brain damage. They are twisting ankles. At worst they’re tearing ligaments that can be repaired surgically. These dudes get paid tens of millions to play basketball. They’re plenty safe and well compensated. I can see arguments about decreasing the number of games to help improve the quality of the game, but player safety? Give me a break. It’s basketball. Let me guess.... Lakers fan or Mavericks fan?

So true.

they are even starting to flip like soccer players.
NBA basketball used to be far more aggressive and violent, with the elbows, hacking and charging not being called that often.

the game has changed from that. It has never been more safer, and less physically intense.

It’s increased from a cardio and sort of wear-and-tear perspective due to all the running around the three point line plus the drive and kick stuff. But you’re right that it’s not nearly as physically punishing as it used to be. Guys used to get laid out going to the basket. Small guys would get lit up like a slot receiver going over the middle against a linebacker. It was brutal sometimes.

Last night Crowder grabs Lebron up around the shoulders to prevent a layup and the fucking announcers are asking for a flagrant. That shit is so weak. I know it’s a foul but come on.

It’s more frantic because the NBA is tanking in ratings. I say this a a great lover, supporter of basketball I’ve played all my life, but nobody wants to hear or see a bunch of whiney ass bitches. I follow players to see how they develop, enjoying watching Lamelo and Luka and will check highlights but I can’t see ever going to game or watching one in it’s current iteration.

So far better than 2019 and much better than 2020 so it’s a start haha.

There was barely any off-season between 2020 and 2021 so that’s probably what you are seeing OP

Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
It's COVID.

The 2020 playoffs would have happened normally in April-May, but instead happened across August to October... started late.. then IIRC had a mid-playoff delay as well.

They then did a short season hoping to have the playoffs closer to their normal time this year.

So there was way less time separating the playoffs than normal. Typically you'd have 10 months in between, instead you only had like 6.

End of April until mid June usually. During the pandemic the schedule has shifted dramatically. People tying players “whining” to ratings are idiots. Sports ratings are down across the board, even in sports where players don’t “whine”.
