The constant argument that one game has a better resolution or frame rate on the console you bought is tiresome. In the end, as long as I can play it and have a good time that is all that matters.

I have a moment every now and again when I don't. And then I see threads about ppl who don't and it's usually because we're trying to play something they don't like.

I had so much fun playing destiny I sold my copy of watch dogs. Destiny gave me the feeling I should have playing games. I was tolerating watch dogs. I don't have time for that. If your not enjoying gaming as much as u once did, it's because your playing something your not into. Everything isn't for everybody.

Find your genres, stick to them. If something interests u, ignore the reviews and play it. All the other shit is just in the way

I think a huge problem that people cause for themselves in this medium is the feverish attitude of playing something new.

Like others have said, games are cheap as hell right now. The majority of games released last gen and the gen before that are dirt cheap. Emulation has gotten better and better. Unless somebody is some sort of gaming wizard that plays and beats every game released, there is something out there personally undiscovered.

No (as far as games beyond 6th gen go). Usually only games with considerable depth and precise gameplay can keep my attention, and that has apparently gone out of style. I outright hate all this "cinematic" shit. It would be one thing if I had played more than 3 games that were actually on par with great films, but the bottom line is most "cinematic" games have terrible writing, watered down cinematography, shit tier soundtracks, and on top of that they lack actual deep or remotely interesting gameplay. I just don't see the appeal of being able to play a terrible movie and game at the same time. Thank god for old games. Booted up Melee on campus earlier and had a pretty good time.

Happened to me with WoW. At some points, it felt like a second job. Get home from work, log in, and get back to work. It's one of the reasons I avoid any game that remotely reminds of that model.

I think I have spurts where I'm just bored with games, so I always keep trying to play new things. Nintendo games help a lot when I just want to have fun and experience great gameplay mechanics. They're also great for splitscreen too.

Other games like long PC Turn based strategy, story driven RPGs or cinematic AAA games are essential too. It's good to try and find a balance to keep myself from getting in a rut.

There so much choice now and it's open to a lot more people. Today with a faster paced life it is hard to sit down and play a game that is so big and expansive but these games are amazing.

For all the flak Watch Dogs has gotten and other games like it these games are amazing and nothin like what people had before.Yet people bitch and moan about the littlest things.

The amount of content you get is absurd in games nowadays it just doesn't gel as well when you get older with less time to play. I love gaming and it's better than ever. Internet would have u think its not any fun. Graphical fidelity only makes it easier to enjoy.

It seems very easy to just play games out of habit. Especially if they are maliciously addictive. I try to avoid playing games to get to the next fun part but sometimes it's easy to get stuck in grinding Hearthstone quests in the hope of getting enough gold in order to afford a new pack and potentially getting that one card that's missing from your deck, and THEN the fun will truly begin. Of course that rarely happens and you end up wasting a lot of time waiting for the game to become fun again. I try to make sure I only play games with other people because then I know I'm not playing a game because of some addiction, I'm playing to experience something fun with my friends.

It wasn't like this. When I was a teen I would kill to have games like The Last of Us or Uncharted. Today I'm so bored with those adult-wannabe games. Some would say "but man! The story!!!". I indeed am!! And to be honest, the two games you stated seems quite great!

No Man's Sky theres not much people know about but it seems a different and very vast game, if it doesnt turns out being another Spore it will be awesome! And that icy melt on DriveClub just adds to the game immersion together with its ilummination and everything else! I like immersive games, maybe thats not for everyone but those kind of details gets my attention! And im not the type of player that stop to look at walls textures and all, I just like to see impressive details on the middle of the action, and that add so much to the experience that sometimes im tottally impressed!

I enjoy games mainly because theyre fun to play... I definitely can play ugly games (damn, even DR3 that is a technical disaster I had much of fun with), and I cannot enjoy bad games just because of their graphics. BUT I definitely enjoy the art of making games, of creating new and impressive experiences and feel that immersion that graphics and physics brings to the action when youre actually playing it. But also, for me graphics are not textures + resolution only; theyre mainly art direction to me. I dont care if a game is not Full HD or 4K, or if it doesnt have awesome textures everywhere as long as the art direction is a great one, bringing enough atmosphere and immersion to the experience!

I enjoy new generations of consoles because they bring new possibilities, where the developers can keep doing great games with also beautiful visuals, many things happening on the screen and great physical effects! That helps to make a game more fun in my opinion! One thing is not necessarily linked to the other, but I trully believe they can fit perfectible.

Most games I play are indies, old, or handheld games. I have very little incentive to buy a new console for the pretty graphics. The new gen consoles have just two games I'm interested in, the rest is meh.

One thing I'm not having fun with are linear AAA action games in third or first person perspective. They always manage to annoy me over and over again, to the point where it start to begins to feel like a chore.

I'm aware of it, and I do buy very few games like that, but sometimes I just decides to try a new one because of a steam sale and or the hope that I will enjoy it like I enjoyed Crysis 1. And when I have started to play it, it's difficult to just drop it, and I power through till the end credits. Bioshock Infinite and Far Cry 3 (open world but linear progression) are the latest ones, and the DLC for New Vegas felt like that also.

I should just stay the h*ll away from them, but there always seem to sneak in 1 or 2 of them every year on my PC.

Until recently I was having a blast as a late ps3 adopter, but that has run its course even with some notable games left untouched. When I´m here on Neogaf, I like to discuss games and the technical stuff.. but once I turn on my Vita, PS3, PS4 or Wii-U it´s all about having fun playing games (unless I´m reviewing a game).

And damn it can be fun.. I know lots of people on Neogaf hate COD games.. but I loved MW1 and MW2. So I bought Ghosts on my PS4. Completed Singleplayer last week, which was an OK experience. 2 nights ago I started playing multiplayer in the game..

I suck so bad at the multiplayer (my KD ratio is something like 0,37 after a few hours..lol) but damn it is crazy fun. I´m afraid I´m hooked to a COD game again, just because it´s FUN. And I have lots of other games I could play..

Gaming is all about having fun, fuck 1080p 900p 30fps 60fps... fuck the outrage over nonplayable female characters .. fuck the but it´s an indie game mentality.. fuck it all.. once I turn on my console and play a game I want to have fun..

I'm having a lot of fun with my Wii U, fighting games, and 'indies' these days.

I used to play more mainstream titles such as Assassins Creed, GTA and [insert shooter here], but I just stopped finding many of these games fun. After a few hours playing I get that shallow feeling of boredom settling in. I feel like a lot of these games need a very good story to be worth playing, but so many, even the biggest AAA's fall short in this area.

I agree with OP to an extent, I feel a big part of why many people buy games is they like to feel a sense of ownership and attachment to objects in the game which I find strange. However I think a lot of people genuinely like to explore game worlds and I can't deny liking an immersive experience from my games now and then too.

Not as much as I'd like or used to when I was younger. I've become very critical and impatient towards games. I don't even bother with most AAA+, especially the "mature" ones, since they simply don't appeal to me. But on the other side; I also have a hard time staying interested in good, smaller budget games and original indie titles, even if I can recognize the game's qualities. It feels like I'm just "checking out" games for the most part. Although currently there is one game that's doing a really good job at making me come back; W101.
It's telling that I spent way more time on GAF, reading about the industry, developer interviews/roundtables, than I do actually playing games. I'm still very passionate about games; I appreciate good art in games, interesting concepts and (combat) mechanics intrigue me.
Sometimes I wish I could work in the gaming industry; I love to work out original game concepts, but without a typical programming background it's hard to just become a producer. Maybe I could focus on project management in different field and use that experience to find an entrance in the industry.

Ditto. Having fun is the only reason I play games (excepting maybe a few free games on my phone that are more time killers than fun). If any of them gets boring or tedious, I just stop playing and start another one, or do something else.

I bought Watch dogs and Spintires mainly because of pretty graphics/physics It was also fun, but yeah, you have a point, OP.
It's hard to enjoy a game when you're a game developer and all you see is physics/shader implementations instead of actual world the game is trying to create.

But recently I played Brutal Doom and realised it's the most fun I've had in a long time. No other shooter has that satisfaction of shooting things in the face.

Pikmin 3, wonderful 101, sm3dw, dkc to and Mario Kart have made me fall in love with the little bugger like when I was 15. Especially pikmin 3 and w101.

On the 3DS front Zelda lbw and poke Mon provided plenty of old school fun as well.

Before that, Journey was sublime on ps3.

My ps4 has not given me a lot of joy in gaming experiences so far. Hopefully it will bring some soon.
