Bugger, I'll be at work in 18 hours, damn night shift. Wonder if I can make the purchase through an iPhone via a BIS store account?

Mouse acceleration fixed! Grenades actually useful! Can actually use a weapon without slowing to a crawl!

Looks amazing, definitely going to pick up as soon as it is available through the store.

Is Dslyecxi uploading one more video tonight? Or is that it until later.

This is a question I was wondering, but was the focus on combat poses inspired by one of the mods for ArmA II that does something similarly? I sure liked it there, so I'm quite sure I'll love the fact a mechanic is already in the vanilla game.

Does the video explain how to transition between the stances? Can't watch right now, but that's a lot of stances. Is it based on your combat mode (stealth, danger, aware, etc.)?

Smokie works for us, so if You talk about the PVP tactical animation pack then yes :) his work moved to new level with new engine :)

Just press the stance key I think. There are also shortcuts to switch between the 3 major stances.

These changes alone will make a huge difference. I'm just going to stay in the sitting stance that's the third from the left in that .gif to show OPFOR how us lazy people fight.

Yes it explains it. subsets of the 3 main stances. Basically you use the one that fits your situation.

It's explained and it seems pretty intuitive. I'm super pumped for tomorrow.

I was hoping dyslexci would have uploaded some videos of shacktac skirmishes but i suppose i can wait to try the alpha myself!

That's pretty cool! Was Smokie a modder you guys hired, or a staff member? I've noticed between the ArmA games some ideas from mods became base ideas for the following sequel (bleeding out from ArmA I via ACE become something vanilla ArmA II did, for another example). I figure there's some good chemistry between you guys and the mod scene, as there tends to be some compliment between one another in terms of content and options that very few game franchises can really showcase.

Good. My main concern was having to memorize 10 keys for stances.

Great, now I'll get shot by AI that's using super crouch mode and never see where they are at.

Guess I better start learning how to use the artillery computers

Seriously, these vids look spectacular. Love the improvements to the movement and aiming system, grenade tossing, weapon interacting with environment--glad to see infantry getting a lot of love.

EDIT: Are there accurate reload anims now? Not just a reload "movement"?

Yeah the grenade throwing gave me a hard-on

Any regular Arma player knows the horrors of grenades (especially in CQC environments)

Now we may actually be able to breach and clear!

How did they implement suppression in this (if at all)? I have no experience with Arma whatsoever but I'm curious.

There's no health regeneration in Arma series, therefore no need to make your screen all shaky and blurry for you to understand that it's not particularly great idea to look for the source of firing when it still fires. One bullet and you're pretty much dead.

New videos - awesome. Throwing grenades with a single button? Are BIS hired magicians?

I thought ARMA 2 actually had a suppression system?

I can't speak for vanilla as I play mostly ACE exclusively now but yes, Arma (ACE) does have suppression.

As you are fired upon your aiming is reduced significantly. It is extremely difficult to make accurate medium-long range shots when being suppressed. No blurry BF3 though.

I was contemplating preordering this game, but seeing the reworked stance system just sold me on it...can't wait!

I think this is the game that will get me back into modding too. It's been far too long and Bohemia accommodates modding well in an age where developers rather lock down their games than to open them up to the community and give it a lot longer lifespan.

And wow, grenades are finally going to be extremely useful in engagements now. Before, it was so cumbersome that you were better off just keeping your rifle out to be prepared. Grenades have never been about easy kills, but more about covering your squad and flushing enemies out. Obviously, sometimes that leads to a kill but it's mostly defensive in all honesty just like our instructor told us. Now you can use it for that purpose since it's quick and easy and it could be useful for clearing buildings now too.

Add "demolitio2" on Steam if anyone is down for some games tomorrow.

Well they got around 2k grand thanks to the modding community. So it would be pretty stupid for them to lock the game down, haha. Plus, STEAM WORKSHOP.

You'd better just toss a link to your steam profile, demolitio.

The super awesome part is that they're moving away from that strange ass C variant they were using (.sqs, .sqf) and moving to Java/C++ for straight scripting. Can't wait.

Ok so I am completely new to this franchise, how does this game compare to,
say, Battlefield 3? I know that maps are much larger, but what about the gameplay? It appears to be much more tactical, I'm assuming in a good way based off reactions in this thread. What are the modes? Sorry for asking, but searching online leads me no where due to so many different expansions and mods.

Never really got into Arma II besides some DayZ, but wow, this looks great. I could definitely see myself playing this with a friend. Not sure if my PC would run it very well though :(

I'm debating buying this. I can't decide between Digital Deluxe or regular Alpha. Will this get me a Steam key or not?

Yea, they're one of the few developers that understand that modding can bring in more money instead of taking it away. Lately, studios make excuses as to why they don't allow modding when their previous games did and blame the complexity of the engine when it's really for their own selfish reasons most of the time out of fear that it'll hurt them down the road. I'm looking at you Battlefield/DICE! :p

Anyway, here's my profile link: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197968282955/

Thanks for the adds so far. Going to be nice having some ArmA buddies on my list.

Yea, between that and Steam Workshop, hopefully modding takes off right away which I'm sure it will. I need to have a refresher course in 3DS Max, etc.

Originally, I was just going to get the cheapest alpha preorder since I'm broke and insurance just went up again, but I'm having a hard time stopping myself from getting the Supporter edition out of love for Bohemia. It's one of those times where I hate having so many problems. :D

Yes wherever you get it it's fully Steamworks so always a Steam key.

Sweeeeeet, buying tonight then. This looks like it will be fun, despite my relatively little experience playing regular Arma 2. My experience there was Wasteland (I wasn't counting DayZ).

Arma 2 is an incredibly clunky and frustrating experience for someone new to the franchise. It serves to a niche audience. If you spend the time required to settle in you will be rewarded with an incredibly immersive environment.

If you'll handle the 3DS I'll handle the C++ :p

Buying tonight to support Bohemia. DayZ brought me in and
now I can't escape! Looks amazing!

Edit: would love to see Arma 3 and DayZ on WiiU. Make it happen Bohemia!
